a hint of cardamom
a touch of saffron
a dash of rose water
beneath those lashes
you gaze up at me
rye tickling your iris
light grazes the hue
like a never setting sun
an iridescent spectacle
hearts throbbed to see
such perturbing beauty
what an arrogant tease
those coffee stained lips
will be the death of me

I have a question for you
Plucked from the day we met.
I have pondered asking for a while
And still I haven't yet.

Especially with important matters
Or ones dealing with certain subjects.
But as I sit here wondering, waiting,
I think I may be ready for what comes next.

As we talked about chess,
Poetry, movies, and songs,
Random facts, and paradoxes
All these evenings long,

I sat thinking still...
Gazing thoroughly upon
The face you wear
And the smile you had on.

As you may be able to see,
I can often tend to be
Incapable of stammering out
The words I desperately want to shout

I get that I don't know you well,
But I feel I may want to..
As long as it works with you...
And maybe if you too...
Could possibly like to do...
If only I already knew...

Would you like a coffee with me soon?
I don't know whether I should send this or not...
the clock read 4 am
in new york city,

one hell of a city

i was at a little coffee place, still open
it was one i frequented often, when in the sin
a place of pity
when you look closely at the people or inspect the buildings a bit nearer
some street blocks you need just look down
but i'd bought a cup for a nice young fella out on his luck
he'd made the pavement his pillow
and as he talked my ear off
on physics, domestic politics, and stocks
i thought of what little difference
it made to so many
whether it was him or i
calling my stay on the straightaways
and the little that made us separate

"I don't even feel the caffeine anymore,"
said Claudio, a cigarette hanging loosely from his mouth.
"Maybe you should take a break. Then, after the break, you'll feel the rush."
He took a long, slow drag.
"No point. I've felt it already."
Some substances are more addictive and less inspiring than others.

I grab a cup of coffee
heading for the Pergamont museum,
where I like to stand in silence
alongside the lithic statues.

Amongst those crumbling strangers
I find your spitting image in the clay
and once again I live through time
in our favourite greek café.

1.

Swirls of golden smoke rose slowly from my blazing coffee ***. The dusty car at a distance slithered and crawled up the winding road. Sitting in the shack I watched the sand snaking its way up, keeping pace with the car and pelting it with sand particles as if it held a grudge against the driver. I had planned to go dune bashing but for the ominous tone of the desert.

2.

The next day morning remnants of what the desert spat out, the sand particles consume me. I am cloaked with gloves of voluminous dust. I take another sip of coffee. The pungent aroma of the milieu and coffee leaves me breathless. The greens are choked and there is sand art on pavements outside.

3.

I try to remove the sand on my hair as I wipe the aurulent sheen on the window pane.  A bunch of men wipes the dust from the tables and chairs in the opposite shack. An old dusty car crawls to a halt and parks, blaring the music of Led Zepplin.
It seems like winter;
But my coffee cup is left out with a cold Pen & a paper
It seems like winter;
But you miss a hand on your shoulder!

I've got to taste your darkness, it doesn't matter if it's day or night.
Your strength alone is rated ten stars strong.
You never disappoint, expect when others try to copy my strength.
They fail to comprehend, the darker the brew, the happier I am.
A shot of cream that's thick and rich, takes my coffee drinking experience to new levels.
Most of all you have to be strong, you have to thwart your dominance towards me. You, strong coffee, is like catnip to me. When I drink of your power, I become your slave...until it's time for my next, cup of darkness.

I’ll wake up at 9 AM
Get ready while listenin’ to One Direction
I’ll wear something cute
Then be out the door
Because the world is so big
And there’s so much to explore
I’ll head down Ninth Avenue
To my favorite coffee shop
But once I’m done there I go to my next stop
Head to the beach
Catch some waves
Watch the tide
That’s my perfect day
I feel like this could be longer but eh lol

I'm always grateful for
the light of a new day
caressing
my cheek

That's not what gets me most
    but you
                            sheathed by sheets
                      while by my side

  See the curtain
    of lashes

So I can
drink
the coffee
of your eyes

Hard to believe that I'm on my 990th poem, that's so insane!
Thanks so much for the continuing support, everyone!
Again, just experimenting with something new.
This one's based on a somewhat of a lucid dream I had,
just holding onto some light in this year.
I'm more of a tea person but with I could use some coffee right now lol.
TGIF, seriously.
Stay safe all!
Kind regards,
Lyn ***
