When beauty is no longer a goal
every step of the journey
is blooming with
flowers.

You were the Barbie jeep engineer.
You were the 5-card pinochle player.
You were the gripe to do the dishes.
You were the patient mall bench sitter.

You were Elvis Presley records and
paper backed crime novels.
You were my new antivirus software.
You were the chatter in the middle of an
NCIS episode.
You were the "It's okay, sweetie" on the
other end of the phone.

You were the voice of every bathtime storybook.
You were the baking soda on my first wasp sting.
You were the green Ford Escort parked
outside my middle school every afternoon.

You were the loudest clap at my graduation.
You were the sticky caramel corn crumbs in the
living room that held the place together.
You were the laughter

You were the toolkit when my pictures hung crooked.
You were the cornerback baker, the pecan pie maker,
dance recital seat saver and the road trip driver.
You were the puppy-dog pill-giver and the
broken heart mender.

You were the church goer and the goodness seeker.
You were the black-haired teaser and the
very best secret keeper.
You were a prideful wig wearer and
wheelchair rider.

You were a cancer fighter.

You were my first call.
You still are.
When there seems
no progressive road
the past
savage
cruel
light finds you
the way out
whispers
the door awaits
I created a spoken word version on SoundCloud today, if anyone is interested -> https://soundcloud.com/suzyhazelwood/light-finds-you
Eyelids heavy
So hard to breathe
Struggling to stay awake
Darkness closes in
Body limp and lifeless
Everything is grey
Disconnected from reality
Numb from the drugs
Tears streaming down
Past years catch up
Succumb to the pain
Muting the sound
Flashing red and blue
People everywhere
Screaming and crying
So sad and tragic
Drugs take her away
As she lays dying

I desire to be close
So I bury myself
Like a flower
Hoping for rain
To quinch this thirst
And nourish this skin
Encircled by lustre
A world so bright
  Beckoned by existence
    Such wondrous delight
I can't help
But feel overshadowed
And overlooked
Stuck in the dirt
I struggle to escape
From worms
And strong roots
GRIPPING
These old lingering boots
No longer hoping for rain
I wish only to be plucked
Felt and Smelt
Just before the pain
That stems from sorrow
Which grieves the leaves
Of yesterday.
I am Dante
I am a poet, a writer, and a fool
My love for her burns worse than hell

I will go through the circles
Of the nine hells below
Just to have her rest in my arms

My soul will suffer
As those below do,
But my love for her will guide me

The fires may touch my skin
And the hopelessness will hit me,
But I will keep fighting for her

I care not for the souls of the souls of the ******
I only care for the soul of my love
For she is my Beatrice
The trees dance
    to your madness
As your heart hides thunder
     and your veins resemble lightning...
Rather dim,
Perhaps by the darkness of your soul.
Since birth,
We were guaranteed that when it rains,
it will pour like never before...
Fear not to cry little one.
There is far more hurricane in this world
       and you Ms,
you were not made for occasional drizzle.

Storm
For a friend, fond of rain and what it entails. Crazy, wild child. One who has so much going on in her life but dares not to talk about it or release a single drop of tear... **

icarus
two coffees
shaking hands
racing pulse
cancelled plans

cold apartment
lonely tears
boring reruns
empty beers

quiet room
unmade bed
took all the pills
now she’s dead
This could actually be considered the spiritual successor to Sugar Rush. I wrote it because I'd had two coffees and was off the walls.
