You touch me
That electric spark that fizzes upon my skin - a tingling dance that sharpens the mind
Dazzlingly clear for a fleeting second
Until the fog descends
Pleasant haze and hooded eyes
Lips
Whispering
Brushing
Pulling at mine

Silent murmurs

We can't
We shouldn't

But we know we will

We descend.

Sometimes i love him in the quiet way
In sighing smiles and stolen glances
Quickly stopping when he turns his face
Fleeting fondness and sheer delight in all he does, unnoticed
Sometimes I love him with symphony and sound
Exclamation and blurted promises
Urgent kisses and grasping hands
Laughter, words and shaking heads

I didn't want this
I wouldn't
I couldn't

But now
He comes within all that I do
And the days without
Are so

The grey and dismal darkness
Is all the eye can see
Broken glass and dimly lit
The world has come to be
The marble steps and winding stairs
Have all but been replaced
With the crouching, shivering bodies
Of our own human race
A time where all that matters
Is rising to the top
Nobody seems to question
If the cruelty will stop
The end goal in tunnel vision
Seems utopian, well-sought
Yet outside the narrow viewpoint
Cast aside without a thought
When people fail to notice
The destruction in their wake
When people seem to never give
Quite just what they take
When other humans come to be
Nothing but a stair
On which to rise on your ascent
It cant be branded “fair”
Since birth our parents tell us
Its important to be kind
But even their examples, oft
Do not keep that in mind
“You’ll always come out the one on top,
If you treat all others just.”
The mantra that they tell us
Is a lie that shatters trust
Looking all around these days
At those who run the land
Of those who hold any power
In the places where they stand
So few get there on merit
“Good” seems to always fail
In favour of a harsh approach
A sadly, common tale
The pure appear to only be
So that they can be used
An example of all that’s labelled “weak”
A guide on how to lose
When did we let it get this way?
Do people even notice?
It’s so commonplace and expected now
Even the media doesn’t show this
With those we choose to run the world
Companies, even families too
Becoming so much more bereft
Of the values we once held true
The Utopian societies of long ago
The longed for “classic” form
Held greatness, community and good health
As the healthy, desired norm
Yet it seems we’ve gone astray somewhere
We’ve wandered from the path
The world in which we live today
Is cruel, crazy, daft
The buildings turned to ruin
The sunlight that once streamed
Seems unattainable, as though it was
Just a wistful, fictional dream
The world has fallen to darkness
Who knows what we’ve become?
But sometimes if you’re lucky
You’ll stumble upon someone
One of the very few that are left
Wandering, hurt by the sights
Of the cruelty, injustice and discord
Of the never-ending nights
A little orb of brightness
That carry the rarest hope
These people with their flickering lights
Can help you to try to cope
Their flame may not be enough to rid
The entire world of wrong
But they work quietly and with promise
And maybe before long
Enough wanderers among our race
May find their own lights kindled
And just as how the stars connect
Until the inky sky has dwindled
An epidemic of encouragement
The beginning of an end
Can help to turn it all around
To try to make amends
Its discouraging when its only you
You begin to feel alone
But if you listen to the silence
You can hear its murmuring tone
Perhaps we shouldn’t falter
Be too quick to just give in
Perhaps one day we might just find
A way for “right” to win
The only thing that we can do
Is hold these people close
The ones who carry on this light
Are the ones who matter most
Sometimes they come out of the blue
And jump into your life
And fill your heart and head with light
Where darkness once was rife
These strange yet superb people
Are sometimes all you need
To ignite your own diminished light
And teach you how to breathe
It may not seem like all that much
But its enough on which to lay
Our dreams of a better tomorrow
Which I know we’ll see someday.

Words
That fiery flash
A stomach falls
The electric charge of shared breath
Lips just a brush away
Yearning for unpermitted closure
A symphony
In frenetic bridging

Tension
Touch
Taste

Sweet release
And the universe flips itself once more

Headlines, deadlines, quotes, replies
Feelings, dealings, truths and lies

Words of encouragement, words of trust
Stories, scandals, fuelled by lust

Paper, vapour, sound and mouth
Questions causing fear and doubt

“Media” – propaganda, facades and fronts
Changing thoughts in changing months

Opinions, minions, priming, deceit
Selling , telling, triumph, defeat

Leering, jeering, whisper, scream
The word noose bound to **** a dream

Amidst the stories carefully told
The media waits to buy your soul.

Hands

Knuckled. Cold. A claw like grip
That clenches on the heart
Picks body up and slamming down
An end before a start

Fingers, deft, consume the mind
And bid the darkness grow
A creeping mist of black and grey
Is all there seems to know

Strong grips tight upon a head
And try to push far under
Beating, rolling, one by one
Waves tearing through, asunder

Clasped around a pale white neck
Constrict, restrict, recede
Two eyes with stars, a body limp
As lungs forget to breathe

A human, lying, bereft,  alone
Stares listless at a sky
Passing stranger, nomadical soul On a road that passes by

With skin of leather, fingers quick
Flask strapped tight at side
Undo the clasp, let crystal drops
Rejuvenate, revive

Arms reached down in vice like grip
Hauling to the feet
Orbs of speckled forest hues
And pools of mute green meet

A palm faced upwards, an offer stands
Questions, unspoken,  still
Suffocating, pressing, all around
Nothing moves. Until

An answer returned, a cautious wrist
Stretched forward, still unsure
A slanted smile, a few soft words
With intentions true and pure

Gentle caress, with growing trust
A brush of lips, sublime
Bonds that strengthen, grow, become
Cemented over time

Yet wandering feet are often turned
To paths still dark and grey
But hands sneak round to hold on tight
And steer a different way

No longer strange, these hands they touch
And leave nothing on the line
But this beacon, this hope, lights the way

When your hand is held in mine

White face, alabaster pale
Tilted to the skies
Moonlight bathes, the black consumes

Shadows cast on sleeping ground

Twinkling lights
Wink back at her

Luminous communication
As patterns are traced
Through lights and constellations
Until-
High in the inky void
It draws her eye

The North Star

He told her she shined brighter

Arched neck, still outstretched
Skin alive with the ghost of his kisses
Crystal tears pool in glassy orbs
Droplets pave routes down gentle features

Remembering, gaze dropped

Stars remain unchanged by time
Unlike those who live under them

Connections can break
Yet constellations remain
Passion's fire may be quenched
Yet the stars stay alight

A body turned away
Knowing she is but another ex character

Exiting stage left from his life
A misty shadow all but forgotten

Yet, crossing the miles
Two eyes framed by a window
Search the sky for the North Star
And the girl who shined brighter
