JOHN BAVERSTOCK

Do You Love Him?

Old Jim had just turned eighty-two,
Has been told by the doctors,
There’s no more they can do,
Doctor says that it’s only a guess,
It could be three months,
Maybe even less,
Thank you, Doctor says old Jim,
Guess I’m ready,
to finally meet him,
When I get to stand outside those gates,
Ready to be reunited with family and mates,
There will only be one question asked to me,
Can you guess what that will be?
No said the Doctor but I am intrigued,
To know Jim in just what you believe,
It won’t matter if I am Muslim or Christian?
He does not care about our denomination,
Yet only one question he will ask of me,
Do I love him?
Of which my reply will be,
Yes said Jim,
Doctor I thank you,
For everything that you have done,
Please remember these words,
When I am gone,
The path to heaven,
Is lined with love,
For all to share,
With the lord above!

This is based on a true story changed around a bit yet nevertheless it really touched me,  his question  and his answer inspired me to write this poem, he sadly died a few days later... God bless him xx

and hence

from the deep stillness of night
the mountain is awash in light
seductive and golden
as if born of a million candles
the quiet is not disturbed

here
they descend upon the land
their presence awakens and ignites the soil
of this charred rock
a hum pulses through every leaf and petal
every eye of every creature is affixed
unafraid and knowing
their blood pulsing with life

the children of the stars return
our father's fathers
come to save us

The window is shattered
The door shut close
He is all her poetry
She is his arid prose

Like the tide bounded to moon
They violently rise and fall
Two paque souls washed up in zenith
Emotions withered with uphill crawl

Dewy eyes encompassed sweet terrors
Their still warmth lingers in valley of past
Haunting the spiritual moors of fusion
In the scriptures of silence only last

He is lost in the stars of his demise
She is infuse revolving around his planet
Until his husky heart loses the war of life
Until her soul suffocates in silk blanket

Acquaintance of your silence.

Remember she is human like you
Bleeds from open wounds
Cries into the night for mercy
Poops up a storm when she's nervous
Prays to the same ancestors on this continent called turtle island/atzlan
Remember she is woman, like you
Nothing less, nothing more

In the past, I've often idolized the women who inspire me. Worshipped at their work like gods when I should've saught communion with them. I am just as powerful and just as worthy.

She whips me down
And drags me round
She roars like thunder
And my freedom is plunder
She spits and seethes
And still nothing pleases

And so I’ll leave
For she will not relieve
The torrid strain I am under
In this oh so monstrous dismal blunder
I’ll succumb to a sweet sleep
And I know you won’t weep
As I end my stay
Besides, who could dismay?

I must sound
Like a chocolate wrapper
Crumbled up with cliche intentions
But oh, the sun is so healing on Saturdays
The weekend's bounty fueled by her light
My glacierlungs start to melt
I feel alright
On the train
To see my best friend
Soaking it all in
Finally unbroken
75 degrees in February
Never felt so incredible
I don't feel terrible
Anymore
I must sound so redundant
But you would play the same song 100
Times a day if it made you feel alive,
Wouldn't you?

:)
