The anxious Toddler,
***** her right thumb;
The News has just ended,
and soon they will come.
~
But they will not lay down,
'neath her Mickey Mouse sheets;
They'll take her pure innocence,
and she'll get no sleep.
~
The things that are done,
to this Child of five;
Will stay with this wee one,
for the rest of her life.
~
When they are finished,
having her their own way;
She hugs the pink walls,
feeling ***** and ashamed,
Child abuse has got to stop!

Not Elves, Exactly
by Michael R. Burch

(after Robert Frost's "Mending Wall")

Something there is that likes a wall,
that likes it spiked and likes it tall,

that likes its pikes’ sharp rows of teeth
and doesn’t mind its victims’ grief

(wherever they come from, far or wide)
as long as they fall on the other side.

Keywords/Tags: Robert Frost, mending, wall, fences, good, neighbors, southern, border, spikes, pikes, barbed, wire, electrical

You can call me names and make me fall.
But you don't know what I can do when my back's against the wall.
You can mock me and tell me I look like a freak.
But it's okay because these things don't make me weak.
We're all different. So why are we so afraid of how people walk, talk or think?
We're all different. So let's embrace it and have a drink.

Lately, I've been afraid to sleep.
Every time I start to dream,
I'm greeted by a banshee scream.
I find myself running but don't seem to go anywhere.
It feels like I'm on a set of m.c. escher stairs.
Eventually, I end up stumbling and fall.
And when I look up, I see the scariest thing of all.
She showed me a vision of a wall.
Engraved in the stones were all of the words I had been dying to say.
I thought I lost them.
But there they were just a few feet away.
The banshee screamed again and the ground started to shake.
The wall started to crumble and I knew I needed to fight. There was too much at stake.
I closed my eyes and focused on trying to breathe.
Then I started to believe.
I believed in myself.
That I'd find the words again.
And just like that, when I woke up, I found them right where they should have been.
Bottom line, don't be afraid to dream. Because eventually, you will realize everything is not what it seems.
This poem was written after I saw a group post about making a poem where writer's block is something chasing you
They say the ***** in the armor is the greatest weakness
But there is no ***** when there is no armor

They say the bigger they, are the harder they fall
But you can't fall if you were never standing

They say that to beat a wall you need to find the loose brick
But if there is no wall it'll never be broken down

Being scared of vulnerability is giving yourself a vulnerability in the first place
Should vulnerability be feared?

Her eyes danced with
cornfield loneliness;
pain so deep
that blueberries and
puppies couldn't
touch it.
She tried to **** it with
***** and
****,
but that only
made it worse.

The solution came
simply,
like flipping a switch.
She just quit loving.
It was rough at first;
tough on the heart.
It hurt when she
saw dandelions and
felt velvet on her face.
It ached when she
smelled the sunrise and
kissed soft lips.
But with time she became
like a head of lettuce
or a marble.
Her eyes were
vacant;
reptilian and blank.

Circle round once more...
Perhaps it is different now...
infinite glass wall...
Inspired by of course a goldfish swimming around circles and it's bowl...I had several goldfish in bowls for a little while until I determined that it was too tedious to clean each individual bowl and bought a large tank to keep them in ...they were so happy to be transferred into the tank that they swam around together for quite a while after being reintroduced to each other.

This can also be read figuratively as sort of the futility of rote dull work... I don't know pretty much everyone's felt trapped in an invisible shell that they feel like they're running circles around in occasionally...

Either that or futility meets optimism hahaha

Meandering within
my oasis so bleak
I search for a puddle
or two, or three
To fill my void with color
alas I lack it so-
Yet dry it may be
a body with no bones
is  simply a catastrophe

A brick of an idea
forever a missing stair-
Crashing waves of my conscience-
proving hard to keep steady

A common melody I sing-
a  marching song to accompany me
I have a duty to protect
Why do I do it again?
Oh yes!
A world without tragedy-
would be a place of no hope
So I continue marching to the beat
and dance along side it

The darkest nights
pressed together with a myriad of bright lights
Although some  are too far gone;
filled with drear and covered with smog
That paints a starry night so deep
relaying the tales my path foresaw
And tilting my world off its axis

A whirlwind lifts my thoughts
and settles them in my soul-
A kin to my heart;
an endless symbol of myself

A wave of calm despite the storm
I keep steady in its wake,
Survive the disaster presented
And so
I may carry the debt of its weight

Even the scariest monsters-
Enjoy a good nap
So the booming may end
But I know better
_
I will keep up this wall,
So I may shelter those dear
And fight off the harm
Oh, I can already sense it coming
Believe it or not, I did decide to continue the challenge I set  fir myself! This poem is actually written for a good friend of mine...I understand what she's going through right now, but I can't stand to pity her. We can be two brick walls, united-making us unbreakable!
I am a wallpaper
Glued to love you on the wall
To just see you and stutter
Never to feel your love and all

Yet you peel me off the wood
Wear me and tear me off my place
Waiting to see if you would
One day replace me in a sudden daze

I'm hurt but can't complain
What I am to you is expendable
To recieve silently all the pain
To ruin me into nothing but rubble

You wreck me and cause me to crumble
All I wanted was for you to notice
That I am loving and humble
For me to be your loving cover
Love what we can't have

The Great Wall of China
goes on mile after mile.
Keep walking high
rise onto roofless towers!

We have day and night
a coin has two sides.
There are here and hereafter
hell and paradise
a mundane earth
and a heavenly sky!

Walking on the wall
one might wonder
to take which side
left or the right?
Both look same now
but was built
to save only one side.

Choice is yours
turn on to either side.
There are good and evil
for the chosen better you
see what’s pops up?
Meet the sun rises high
in the silhouette of a great wall!
