Outside the sun is
shining, so why is the rain
pouring down inside?
Sometimes I am sad for no reason, and that makes me even sadder.
CRAZY DAISY Aug 2016
I watch the rain
as it washes away
all the sidewalk chalk
the smeared paintings
floating away
in a stream
of beautiful color
a vibrant rainbow
on a rainy afternoon
fuchsia pink swirling
around my naked toes
children running
and laughing
in the hot streets
the smell of fish and spices
makes my belly rumble
hot white rice
upon a bamboo plate
an old woman
scooping boiled fish
and smiling
her toothless smile
her soul filled
with liquid sunshine
as we sit cross legged
and laugh like kids

the sky opened up and rain spilled onto my fractured back. drops of water slipped through the tiny cracks, traveling through my body to mix into my blood. the thunder clapped in my ears with a loud thud, shaking the organs shielded by my rib cage. the lighting struck with intensity and rage, sending jolts of electricity through my veins. heavy pellets of water slammed into the windowpanes, shattering the glass and leaving cuts on my hands. the trees crashed to the forest floor right where i stand.

and in all of this catastrophe, i only thought of you.
of your lips against my neck,

your hands on the small of my back,

your eyes meeting mine in the darkness of night,

your i love you’s which were spoken without any words at all,

your beautiful smile that bandaged my bruised heart,

but most of all, i thought of how you used to carry some of the weight too.
i miss you.
the river flowed smoothly at first
and then it decided to burst

now around my house is a moat
and **** it I don't have a boat

this will be an uphill battle
because of course I don't have a paddle

Raindrops falling on my face
in the early morning light
gray clouds racing by
dancing on the mighty wind
trees swaying in the distance
like they're waving hello
to all the strangers walking by
people running like little ants
through the crowded streets
looking for shelter from the storm
I just stand in the middle of it all
letting the rain cleanse me
and wash the sins from my soul

I wish we named every rainstorm.
Hurricanes get everything, but
It's easy to have everything when
All you do is take.

I used to think that falling
Asleep was the same feeling as
Earthquakes shaking the grounds.
Don't get stuck in the chasm.

Washed up memories, shoe box
Chachkis, left untouched through the
Eye of the storm. Who knew these
Relics would follow you here.

Crying as the pouring rain stops
Is impossible.
All of the tears have been taken.

But rippling water is overrated.
Have you ever seen sand slide through
The Sahara Desert.
I've been there. I've seen it.
I watched as each minuscule grain slid
Down the valley ridges built from years
Of wind storms making piles.
Piles idiosyncratically stretched across its reddened face,
Maybe modeled by the smoldering surface of mars.

Lay down and let it wash across your leathered skin.
Sensations spreading, each nerve on every centimeter of you
Lighting up, marquee, competing with the hot desert suns.
A million dandelion spores dancing ballet.
Tip top, tip toes to a tarantella timing.
Buried under dunes, only too soon to
Uncover you once again.

You wouldn't believe how something
Solid can so namelessly float across the land.

Thunder rolls in, booming out of nowhere
Disturbing the otherwise clear blue July sky
Just as suddenly as those clouds rolled in
Overhead the heavens broke
Sending rain plummeting to Earth with fruition
An aero plane flies overhead, loud engine roar trying to compete with the ominous thunder clashes
Wind dancing with the trees
Nothing pauses for the rain
The city doesn't come to a halt
Only me, sitting alone on my front stoop
Inhaling the scent of nature
Feeling the cold against my skin, ruffling up my hair
I was born for days like this
I live to become part of the storm
The scent in the air is quite divine.

My sketchbook is getting damp from the spray
It's a torrent unleashed as
thunder rolls
Midnight black stripped in hot flashes of punctuated amens
Rounds of sounds of liquid laughter shake in the atmosphere
Lyrical clapping voices arise
Millions of drops on millions of leafy palms uplifted
The canopy dances
now in a roaring delight
I hear a waterfall singing your name
because you're missed most intensely in these spaces of awe
Yes
You can
Be
with
me
You are

I'd be consoled
for rain to fall on my face
because right now
I feel nothing
about anything

Soaking wet
in a rainstorm
might wash me clean
and maybe tomorrow
I’ll feel again

a light drizzle falls
as we walk
hand in hand.

streetlights pale glow
cuts through the somber
dawn.
muted street sounds
keeps our path
tranquil.

damp shoes provide
no warmth to our feet,
but somehow that just
doesn’t matter.

a quiet shadow beckons,
I pull you into it’s depths.
wiping raindrops from your lips
no-one is witness
to an impassioned kiss.

soaked clothing provides
a cold barrier,
yet our romantic fervour
is heat enough.

a light drizzle falls,
but we are oblivious.

cloudy days provide
their own rainbow,
it only takes
a kiss in the rain
to see it.
Day 19! I am finding it hard to believe that I have managed to 'stay alive' through the first 18 days of #OctPoWriMo. It is a real challenge to write a poem everyday, never mind to write something that others might enjoy. I am very overwhelmed with the positive feedback I have received, and for that I thank you all.

Today's prompt is rain, and we were given a list of words we should try incorporate into our work. Those words are melancholy, drizzle, damp, rainbow, cloudy, grass and somber. I actually wrote 3 poems for this, and wasn't really satisfied until the 12th edit of the 3rd poem. And so, I share with you today's poem, and sincerely hope that you all get to experience a Kiss in the Rain.
