First,
You teach me to think
With my own brains
Feel out my way
With my own feet
Treat me the same
As the boys

Second,
You put me in a school
Where they teach me to read
- oh, what a world!
They teach me to look
At international
Literature
- Marge Piercy,
Maya Angelou
And the like

Next,
You show me the crimson
Powder meant for foreheads
A deeper red for blood
Spilt on beds.
A life of compromise
And adjustment

Ripping out my ideas
And opinions
Telling me they're worthless
A baby, a house,
A life of adjustment
Is all this was meant for.

Tearing my beliefs
In an equal world
An equal society
Where society rises
To meet human morality

Is this what you taught me to read for?
Sorry sirs, ladies.
I tip my hat and bow.
Sorry to disappoint.
I was meant for an equal position
And I'll take it
- by force or mutual
compromise.

You are either black, white or brown.
Not yet, don't frown at this myopic poem
It's just a momentary flicker of thoughts
Read till its home
Else don't dare judge.

I was saying,
When you look, this is what you may see.
People come in black, white and brown shading
At least, that's what the eyes reveal
So our treatment of each other follow these same shadings;
Black, white and brown.

"Blacks are dubious and evil
Whites are righteous, just a little corny
Browns are drug lords and...... something," don't ask me.

Racial conflict
Each struggling to be distinct
Superiority tussle
Utter show of psychological and mental muscle.
Complexity expunging simplicity
Even the weaver-spider is now entangled in its weaving.

If we will but wear our true and innocent eyes,
Everything we look perfect and right
But we have all lost our minds
Even flat grounds now make  tedious climb.

We are neither blacks, whites nor browns
We are just human beings,
Human beings that are lost
Lost in the refraction of many colours
Same which was designed to make us appreciate each other more.

Now pardon this Radom thoughts
Are we blacks, whites and browns
Or just human beings in different colour shading?

Remind the children
in books
in tales
in life
that monsters
are not always supernatural
do not always live under beds
or creep inside closets
in fact they can be amongst us
walking, breathing, existing humans

Only they are far more real

**Far more terrifying

HOWEVER IT DOES NOT FOLLOW THAT ONE IS INHERENTLY GOOD AND THE OTHER, INHERENTLY BAD!
SUCH WORDS ARE USELESS

LET THIS NOT CAUSE YOU TO STRAY FROM YOUR PATH,
OR TO GIVE UP HOPE IN REASON.

WHILE THERE IS NO TRUE, UNIVERSAL GOOD, AND THERE IS NO OBVIOUS, DEFINITE ENEMY:

CHOOSE THAT TO WHICH YOUR HEART HEARKENS. AND FIGHT, WITH ALL YOU HAVE, AGAINST WHAT IS THE ANTITHESIS OF SUCH.

BUT NEVER SAY YOU ACT IN THE NAME OF GOOD.
NEVER CLAIM THAT YOUR ENEMY IS THE EVIL IN THE WORLD.

For Those who Know, will have no choice but to pity at your fallacy.

It’s that time
Watch the country crowd
Warmed by their desperation
Turn their hopes up loud

The numbers in
The ***** are rolling
To their effect
The bells are tolling

I sit apart
And watch their faces
Numbers hold
Power graces

It’s sad to know
They accept what they want to be
Should we play
The lottery?

My parents gave me a pink childhood framed with lace and luxury--
but a black stain has spread there, deep as the amount of time
I’ve spent thinking about what people are capable of, and how they can stand
hanging a mirror in every bathroom, because water cannot clean people
of the lie they told their brother or the betrayal inflicted against their friend,
some wrongs of which may never be realized, but will always remain
in the form of a new freckle on my left cheek or shadow beneath my eye.
And I am sorry, because I should have sooner heeded my mother’s words
when she told me I was the moral compass grounding you stonedust streets.

Your childhood resembled a light bulb broken before it tasted electricity,
no one taught you North from South and how different the terrain may become
when you find yourself in the mountains with only sandals on your feet.
I had been that for you, and you told me as much every weekend we spent
riding in the bed of my father’s pickup truck and shouting against wind-gusts
that threatened to carry our voices away from one another--

I have sinced learned there are many ways to **** a person.
I killed you when I stole your sense of direction like floorboards from beneath
your cracked and bleeding feet, and allowed you to fall--who knows how far--
landing in a pile of skin-biting needles and leftover sediment,
the very bottom of brown-glass bottles strewn across the floor.
Staying would have saved you, I’m sure, and I’ll never forget that I turned away
out of fear, cowardice, because I hated the sight of your skin-and-bone crowd,
friends in name but not in heart, and left you lost among them,
And you who knew no better remained, your humanity
expelled with each smoke-laden breath and then evaporating, nonextant.

The rush of blood the face we placed
On every corner on every space
We raced to come to terms with life
With morality a facade for strife
Pointing to the pain as a promise for more
Pointing to old books that might restore
Dignity and respect for the living
While other possibilities are destroyed
And the destroyers are forgiven
Sweaty palms stomach ulcerated
And for the sake of the soon to be liberated
Let me explain how real morals are made
Not through musty scriptures
Not through verses that are immature
But through learning and coming to terms with
How everyone feels and experiences life different

i want to believe i exist

beyond these four walls

the ceiling extends so high

there may not be one at all

and there’s a roundness to the edges

a shape to the corners

and a light seeping through
all the cracks in its borders

and im drowning in a kiddy pool

i cannot keep afloat

but i ran and i ran and i ran

to get off the boat

somewhere off the coast
of a place ive never been

and im too quick to call it home

for fear ill never begin

so ill scrub the windows of my new home

like there’s secrets beneath the glass

as if every circle adds a ring to the tree

as if everything’s built to last

Tear me down to the core;
to these wires and rods I call bone.
there will be nothing new in store,
my heart is naught but unfeeling stone.

When you looked upon my face
I doubt you even masked your fear.
I'm not of flesh, like the rest of the race,
I'm of smoke, mirrors and atmosphere.

To a being of much wiser wit
it might, at some point, behoove,
that there is nothing that I will admit
for I am not an easy one to move.

Call me, curse me, monster, fool or beast,
your words have long since lost their edge.
I will not have thoughts of you... at least
that, I can most solemnly pledge.

Within creased paper lie binded souls
Firmly held within my clutch ,
Ideology hemorrhaging as non-opposables only bend so much.
Thirsty i reached for a swig of your cup
Open palmed
This vessel mishandled
the contents soaked through bedrock
Its remains a drink for the decrepit.
