I'm empty
So I look to my finger tips
To scavenge the internet
Looking for meaning
Or emotional leaning
I've never really found it
Whatever it is I search for
But I keep coming back
Despite my record of regret

Buzz, beep
Demanding glare of a flickering screen
Hands rifle through pockets and purses
Find validation in rigid thumbs
Hands forgot to join in prayer last night
But glide over a keyboard
I woke feeling zero
Turned to her blinking monitor eyes
I heard her smile
Nothing more than Morse code for
Error four-oh-four
I woke feeling one
Huxleyan white noise
Of pixels impregnated with the passions of the ignorant
Feel me
But do not touch me
For I am no different than those fools
Making love to the Device
Half-hearted
And I can’t help but wonder
Why I’m even attempting Poetry
In a world that cannot read its own digital tongue

Tweetheart, tweetheart
I’m posting you a pastry
Tweet days and tweet nights
As tweet as it can be.
A tweet that makes you
Want to beat your feet
Everywhere and anywhere
Even across the tweet.

A tweet as tweet as candy
A tweet without defeat
I tweet you almost endlessly
I tweet you by the sheet.
I tweet you here, tweet you there,
Even to the county seat.
Everywhere and anywhere
The tweet that can’t be beat.

A tweet for the wintertime
A tweet even in the heat.
Every kind of tweet there is
The set will be complete.
I tweet for the left
I tweet for the right
Tweet dreams for everyone.
To all a tweet goodnight.

"Turn off the television set"
"Switch off the films in your head"
"Disconnect the internet"
"Put away the books you haven't read"

"Wake up and go outside and see,
And stop all this hiding from the truth -
See the world as how it's meant to be,
Sunbathe in the garden; on the roof."

I think I'd rather live in fantasy
(Even if my eyes melt down my face)
From watching films, to escape reality,
Than wake up to the horrors of this place.

Here's to all the concerned gaurdians
Who enact an internet firewall
And here's to all the witty subjects
Who find ways around it all

Papers and pens expensive,
careful the words selected.
Prose:
Cautious
Considered
Calculated
Discussed
Digested
Politically correct
Stilted.

But since the advent
of cheap communication,
words are thrown
right and left,
democratized into existence,
bullied down before anyone has time
to grasp the meaning
or the consequences complicit
to disrespecting the dialectic.

I wonder:
Where can I find those mourning
the death of conversation?
Perhaps resigned
to the penance of unabriged silence.

How wonderful: this internet!
Filled with oceanic places,
Connecting without a presence
With glowing distant faces.
A web made of luminous strings
Creating millions of mazes,
Who're adorned with good and ill things,
And where it's hard to find traces.
A Web that's used but can't be seen,
In material World's spaces,
Only glimpses on a bright screen
Of millions of databases.
A little inspired by the Qasidah (or Kaside) rhyme scheme that goes like: aa, xa, xa, xa etc.

I say again
That from my perspective
When I Die
The whole World will cease to Exist
Including You.
And it will be the same for you
When you go too.

So we are Lucky now
Having the Internet
To speed our Education,
Bringing knowledge and experience to us
As our mobility declines.

It’s as though Someone has catered for our needs,
Ensuring we Learn as much as we can
Before we go.

Lucky too we are to have our radio and TV.
And some of us are lucky enough
To live in relative Safety.

Some day, if we are lucky, we might even learn
What all this Learning’s for.
Someone may even let us know.

Paul Butters
Early this morning I had a bizarre, vivid, scary dream. When I woke, poetic thoughts appeared...
