A far away memory,
Whispering in my ear,
A quiet spirit,
Begging me to hear.

A fallen soldier,
In the midst of war,
Screams in cold agony,
And longs to be warm.

She is left there,
Dying all alone,
She cries in the silence,
And dreams of being home.

I walk along a path,
I hear her silent tears,
I run to her aid,
As her end draws near.

She looks up with her eyes,
I wipe tears from her face,
I bandage all her wounds,
She smiles as we embrace.

Some time seems to pass,
Her cuts not fully healed,
But she's doing so much better,
Than she was that fateful year.

I sit on a dusty shelf.
The days go by,
And I watch the children play.
I am sad and alone.

But one day,
A child notices me.
They notice my beauty and elegance.
They carefully carry me down from the shelf.
I now have a friend.

Months pass.
I spend time with my friend every day.
But suddenly,
They drop me on the ground.
My fragile glass skin is cracked.
I am broken.
My friend sees my shattered state,
But they do not care.
I am no longer beautiful in their eyes.
They leave me there.
I am alone again.

In the quiet of the empty streets,
With shadows long and wide,
A friend appeared with wagging tail,
To stay right by my side.

While the world was full of worry,
And days seemed dark and long,
Haru brought a gentle joy,
A love both pure and strong.

With every bark, a hint of hope,
Each wag, a silent cheer,
Through every storm, we found our way,
With Haru always near.

Now as the seasons slowly change,
And the fear begins to fade,
I know the love we shared those days,
Is the best we ever made.

I don't want to go a
gentle journey,
from convoluted to
convalescence.
I quit drinking again;
found love in
the psych ward.
She's my broken-winged
angel.
So much pain behind that
sweet smile.
She's drinking again,
and I can't fix her.
It hurts, like an arrow
through the stomach.

I have a rabbit that comes
to my yard.
She lies in the same
spot every day.
So much so, that
she has worn down a
place for herself--the surrounding
grass grows around her.
She feels safe.
I feed her spinach, and my
brother sings her
show tunes.
That's what we get
for having a drama
teacher for a father.
Thanks, Dad.

It's been an unseasonably
cold April.
I feel sorry for Harvey;
That's her name, thanks
again Dad.
I talk to her softly.
"Hi, baby--what are you doing?
Do you want to come in?"
She doesn't answer.  I'm sober.
I want to take care of her...
Both of them...
My two little bunnies.
It's cold, and the wind is
blowing hard,
beneath a mean grey sky.
I dedicate this poem (a repost) to my friend, Dawn Holt who passed away last week. RIP.

They say don’t ruin the friendship
I think that it’s all long gone
I was thinking we could make this work
Lately you’ve barely been able to respond
What about all the other girls
Do you pay them any mind
Are you trying to make my jealous
Talking about them all the time
Do you even like me
Or is that just a rumor being spread
Cause I like you
Do you know that?
Don’t let it get to your head
I liked you last year
And all the days of my life
I’ll feel helpless
Whithout you at my side
We went to homecoming
You were my perfect height
I took your hand
And I wanted you to kiss me
I’m not gonna lie
I compare myself to everyone else
I don’t have the body
The brains
The tongue that you like
So why me
I ask myself ever night

you left
and suddenly i realised
why we started naming storms
after people.
- i wonder if the scent of thunder meeting earth haunts your memories.

that’s the curious thing
about memories you see;
no matter if you’re thinking
about the best ones
or the worse ones
they each leave you feeling
a little emptier afterwards.

If I would have known
I would have laughed a little harder at your jokes
You made me laugh all the time
Just getting to see your goofy side
If I would have known
I would have hugged you in case you ever felt alone,
thanked you for giving me somewhere that felt like home
You were there for everyone even with struggles of your own
If I would have known,
I would have never taken time for granted
Thinking I'd walk in and still see you dancing
If I would have known,
I guess I should have known
I wish you were here beside us
To see your smile light up a room
You were taken way too soon
I wish I knew you better
But I know you'll last forever
If I would have known
That I'd be staring at you all silent,
your eyes closed
I would have made sure that you knew
Even the smallest time I got to be in your life
You made all the difference in mine

When you know it's not you
Then you’ve known another

But is it friend or foe
For you or against you

Your saviour or jailer
Your master or helper

It may oppose but it's not enemy
It rather flatters for pride leads to fall

Perhaps it's neither for you nor your foes
But for itself as it befits its own

If asked it will say it is what it is
And what another may say I don't know
