is there ever a point in life that we are
not wanting to go back
and not wanting to go forward?
we forget to cherish the present
Luna Jay Mar 2019
The reason you cannot pass is the same as the last.
You are blocking yourself from moving forward
And dwelling in the past.
A mirror image of your flaws.
Physical science-
That unlawful law.
And your reflection is the one who saw
That you are stuck behind the glass
Of who you make yourself out to be.
But you…
You’re just not who you see yourself as.
And your reflection has known for
Its entire existence.
Mud
You're blocked;
you're bugged;
your eyes stay screaming
but I can't hear a thing.

Wash through me like knees through mud
not yet caked over by the heat of the
sun; like you're looking for something
you dropped and it may soon be entombed.

Look at me as you would a tree
caked in mud.
Name me by my leaves, or
                    my sinewy limbs.

You're soft;
you're coarse;
the lines that puzzle your face
make frowning silly, and small.

          Name me Steinway like the
               piano. Or Pecan, like the
                    tree.

Find me forward, trudging through mud.

I can see solid ground but my branches
can't reach to touch the grass or its flowers
or to smell the rotten-ripe crushed leaves of
the pecan trees.

Stick me where I'm stuck,
save the mud. Give my leaves
some snow, some lightness,
cold. Give me color. Paint me
in storm clouds.

It's okay now

I know you were hurt
I know you were so confused
I know you were screaming for help
But it came

It's okay now

You are safe here
You are getting better
You are stronger than all of that
You are resilient

It's okay to be okay

You don't have to stay sad
You have cried plenty of tears
To mourn what you went through
And all it cost you

It's okay to be okay

You are free now
You can put it behind you
You are allowed to move forward
You won

You can be okay now
Sometimes things hurt, but to move forward we have to acknowledge them or else they linger to haunt us.

I honestly feel physically exhausted having been fighting this feeling for so long and now finally having it out in words.

One, close your eyes.
Two, take a deep breath.
Three, let it go.
Four, take a step forward and never look back.
Five, know your worth.

Remember, there is someone out there who is worth fighting for.

One day I gave a dollar to a man on the street
Who held a sign that read simply "help please"
He paid twenty-five cents for water to drink
Then chuckled and gave the change
To a kid passing by who looked bleak.

The child ran to the corner store
And bought two packs of double mint gum
One for himself and one for his chum
But rushed off in such a dash
He left his change with the cashier,
A whole twenty-five cents cash

The cashier used the change to help out a few
A dime for tax on a man passing through
A nickel short each for two ladies buying ice
And nine cents to a man riding past on his bike.
Then I, myself, went to that very store
Only to find I was one penny short
And wouldn't you know all was okay,
The cashier pulled the last cent and said
"Have a nice day."

One step forward
=
Two steps away
From you.
I don't know why we grow apart. Am I different? Are you? I wish I had the answer.
