Seeing me in the mirror of his eyes

With a ***** skin of purity
Closing of those eyes in mortality

Olden Days
Prathipa Nair Jun 2016
Bullock carts moving forward
With the music of jingling bells
Women walking like a peahen
Balancing mud pots of water
On their head with a band
Women churning butter from
Milk with the churning rod
Men with their spades to fields
Ready for the ploughing
Boys,with their tool, catapult
Aiming at the juicy mangoes
Little girls running with laughter
To the call of a bangle-seller
Old men sitting in the verandah
Memorising their days of youth
Fruit selling woman calling out loud
Bananas,Apples,Mangoes
Smoke from the chimneys
Like an engine of a train
Red chillies, turmeric and coriander
Spread on sheets in the sunlight
Goats and calves crying out in
Search of their pet homes
Village full of greenery with
Gulmohars, Banyan and Neem
Busy with their daily duties
Happy with no disappointments
The villagers of olden days !

Respectful Beggar
Prathipa Nair Sep 2016
Seen him begging subsequent years
Speaks in his mother tongue
Which was different from mine
Kids scared hearing his voice
Telling them apropos being good
Enduringly with a smiling face
Was sheer polite with the owners
In my contemplation he was a respectful beggar
Age turned his smile getting weak
No withal seen couple of days
It has been months he nevermore came
Disappeared from our memories
However was in our subconscious mind
Visiting an orphanage to offer food
Found him sitting with his old age friends
Remembering me with my mother
Asking us how do we do
With that old smiling face
Happy to see him again unscathed
Without any loss of memory
Expressed our words remembering him
Let it be a beggar, humanity matters!

My Wooden Cot
Prathipa Nair Jul 2016
Lying on my wooden cot
With holes for rats to pop
Decorated with spider web
Making a creaking noise
Reminding of its old age
With shivering four legs
Cockroaches climbing the tomb
To fly like a parachute
There was a visitor to my cot
The cute little squirrel to
Play in this park of cot
Never did they disturb my sleep
And it happened all of a sudden
My cot and me
Fell to the ground
With its broken legs
Together with my friends
Mourned for my wooden cot's death!
Just fun :-)

The Wizard
Prathipa Nair Jul 2016
Yellow pumpkin on a table
So blind with its crab's eyes
Smiling with white tooth of
Lady's finger seeds
A nose of gooseberry
Like Johnny had a little pie
Thick red lips of capsicum
Which makes him a wizard
Scary looks of pumpkin
Made the onions cry
Out his tongue of lily leaves
With his spells of magic
Trapping all the veggies
Into his pumpkin head of basket

White cotton ***** of clouds
Woven into black sheet of cloth

Dropping on brown muddy table of ground
Drenching it to spread the scent throughout to
Deliver the news of rain's birth!

A Forest Dream
Prathipa Nair Jun 2016
Fell on the green grass
In a silent deep forest
Green grasshopper escapes
From my heavy thud
White Rabbits peeping out
From their burrows
Brown woodpecker stops
It's wood work
Yellow and brown monkeys
Jumping from branches
Black ants splitting
From their lines
Yellow spotted deer running
As fast as he could
Orange chirping birds on trees
Gossiping about me
Coo-Coo, faraway sings
The black beauty Cuckoo
Grey bats fly out from a cave
With a screeching noise
Scary innocent creatures
Reckoning me, their enemy

Getting up from the ground
Nearing them slowly
Acquainting me as their
Friend and not an enemy
One by one they came
To feel it in real
Touching me with love
Fed me with nuts and fruits
Playing with great cheer
With no more fear
Suddenly it happened
A powerful roaring sound
Giving them an instinct
Of their helpless death
Cuddled around me with
A message to save them
Roaring sound was
Moving near to catch its prey
Promising never to leave
Prepared myself being brave
Getting a call from my mother
Have to leave them in my dream !

Snake Gods
Prathipa Nair Sep 2016
Courtyard blessed with snake Gods
Under the large plumeria tree
With its yellowish white flowers
Sitting there in the world of my imagination
Conversing with the disparate designed snakes
Came to visit their King with Queen God
King was in golden colour with his head high
Queen in her attic of red with black lines
Wearing garlands of corn marigold flowers
Offerings made by devotees
Tender coconut, turmeric powder,
Rice pudding with rice cake
Blessing them pleased with their devotion
Turned towards me to convey their heartfelt joy
In furtherance of visiting their
kingdom with respect to nature
Giving them a space with devotion in this nasty world
Even now we used to do offerings.. Not only a belief in God.. Ancient people did this to respect snakes and also to avoid deforestation

Ready for the wedding in her black attic
Wearing necklace of twinkling stars
Alluring bindi of shinning moon
Her blue wide eyes open with delight
Giggling of coyness from her lips of rivers
Plaited braids with fragrant ***** pine flowers
Night, walking languidly on green carpets
Getting on brown forests of chariot
Passing through villages, cities, towns
Ululation of owl's high-pitched wavering
Welcoming her to the ceremony !

Walking in the moon's limelight
Holding hands with him
On the road of black carpet
Green Ashoka, the sorrow-less trees of fences
Decorated with orange-yellow flowers
Turning red with her blush
Welcomed by the green grass of audiences
To the throne of rosewood bench
On his shoulders holding her close
Seated together to inaugurate
A beautiful portrait on the canvas of blue lake
Dancing colourful fishes jumping up and down
Shinning glitters of sizzling rain
Enjoying the bliss of their first kiss
With the singing sweet voice of the nightingale

Swinging on a pleasant evening
Yellow golden flowers dropping on me
Grandfather's white beard,
Came flying to me, the pappus
Blowing it up with a smile
Excited to bring out the antlions
Caught some red ants being their prey
Dropping them on their sand pits
Waiting to see them come out
Orange-red jungle flame flowers
Inviting me to have a sip of honey from it
Aimed some mangoes with my catapult
Ate them dipping in a mixture of salt and chilli powder
There came a gorgeous blue butterfly
Challenging me to catch it
Tired after all these activities
Back to my swing, to and fro
Flying high with a feel to touch the sky
It was my unforgettable evening !

Nine months,nine days
And nine seconds
In a comfort Womb
Where I came alone
But never felt lonely
Always there was a love
To survive with me
Carrying me all over
Without a single frown
Gave a lot of pain to
That innocent heart
Kicking and poking
Which brings tears
Never did that heart
Convey a grumble except
love, care and share
Of all these pains, gave a
Grave agony to come out
Facing death and rebirth
To bring me to this world
Still with a smile of love
Holding me in her hands !
Dedicating to my Mother :-)

Looking at the bunch of plantains
Hanging vertical yellow smileys
Fragrance of ripe bananas
Filling my mouth with water
Giant mango trees full of king fruit
Orange-red ripen mangoes with crown
Smiling at me handsome monarchs
Red chubby tomatoes looking up at me
With a pony tail on each ones head
Either big or small none are like a twig
Shining green chillies with anger
Nodding their heads to capture
Dozen of aubergines in violet dress
Covered one part of the soil
Oh ! Jackfruits are ready to pluck
Spreading the sweet smell all over
Like children on mother's waist
Climbing creepers holding bitter guards

Ancestral Tale
Prathipa Nair Jun 2016
It was the month of April
Was in grade seventh or eighth
Spending summer holidays
With my mischievous cousins
In my ancestral home
One night making me
Scary and neurotic
Jingling sound of anklets
Woke me from my sleep
That sound climbing upstairs
Nearing to our bed where
Me and my cousin slept
Waking her from her sleep
With a fear on her face
Pale with yellow and red

Moving towards us rapidly
With a aim to harm us
Closing our eyes tight
Holding our hands together
Heart beating faster like a cheetah
Becoming speechless
Trying to call out louder
Someone to help us
But was in vain to do so
Came out my voice
Just to reach my mother
Came running to us with
A fear and looking worried
Hugging her with tears
Running downstairs like a lightning

Narrating the nightmare
In the morning to granny
Heard an ancestral story
About the jingling of anklets
In excitement was she
Annotating about Gods
Walking through the streets
Their legs with anklets
And hands with iron chains
Protecting the people from
The darkness and evils
Lucky are those who can
Hear that Holy sound
With an innocent smile
Felt how lucky we are !
