The Tale of Ego
Eriko Aug 2015
the spoils of ego
have created the vile
and the grasps of men's malevolence
will raise the hairs on the fallen arm
the snaking graze bringing diaphragms to a chill
and the eye of lost men reflecting to the churning sky
brimming with echos of lost contraptions in time
the pockets of dream viewers upon heart's decline
and the whisper of one final, sweet bliss
the clamor of doubt sunk like wounded icicles
the gleam of one's bone under lampshade glow
and the lingering touch of medallion thrones
the greed of man washes over ashore
upon the silhouetted fingers of children tomorrow
and the affection of what's promised will wander
soon to the forages of tabooed swelling yonder
simmering in the ashes broken into fragments
eroded into sands of time to slip through palms
and as the day spin on its axis
twisting men's gaze to crunch into manifesting feats
to brink a think that they must all abide
to the fists of iron and crunch of another bone
how they dare treat another soul
in such fruitless fashion
and ambition lacking in direction
their virtues of moral must stand on a compass
without it, they cease to be
pinned to a brick
because their heads are too thick
and don't for a second think
that they are able to keep
the walls fortified, for it too will sink
and they shall fall to their knees
if they refuse to listen
and keep their shiny egos
shaved to a comfortable narrow

cup of tea
Eriko Feb 2016
I hug this mug of tea
this sweet, black cherry tea
warmth seep through the porcelain
a wonderful sensation blooming
on my tongue

yet, that old fellow over there
with cowered eyes flecked with grey
a long peppered beard and hair so thick
he had a crane which endured all the sick
and came to poke his gnarled  finger
at my cup of tea

dear, he said oh dear
and I tilted my head
not knowing what to be said
do you see what you have done to yourself?

I glance down down, at my fingers wrapped
around the cup of tea
the tea was not steaming, nor warmth presented
my fingers were merely frozen
and the sweetness was long forgotten

the pooling black cherry
I saw my face reflected
and I didn't recognize
the eyes blinking anymore

who gave you that tea?
the old wise man whispered
that tea was a gift to me
I whispered even quieter still
the tea have grown cold long ago
and you have been here huddled all alone
he haven't bothered an offer of hospitality
he left you to grow cold and still

and I realized, my hands shattered the porcelain
the tea dripped in a sludge
I kicked at the broken pieces
and began to spark a flame

and now why the bright orange flame?
the old man said and sat in the grass
I am kindling my own
I said with a fiery puff of breath
he chuckled and nodded
you have grown wiser
*with a rare undertone
starting to realize that some people who are not what I thought to be.

looking down upon us
a thousand wrinkles etched within
minds like deserts
earning for what is lost
and thoughts down too cold
to their time of older generations
their old teeth chastise our ways
the acceptance for gays
the respect of transsexuals
the admiration for their bravery
they are perfect in every way
brace for the hurt
words from the those
we look up to
the vinyl minds remain
as neglected as deserts
they remain secluded, a shell of ****
in rejection to adolescence spirit
they think so rude
we are just more vocal
more determined
finding our place
in this cluster-**** we call society
don't pretend
don't for a second
convince shallow arrays
merely blurry shadows
that you know what's best for us
we don't really know things for ourselves
still trying to figure out
if two plus two is really four
but only not to live
in past of your memories
you want to cast into ourselves
in a world of three dimensions
incoherently converted to six
don't try to influence our spirits
we are bolder than you think
beliefs are not blasphemy
stop comparing things to
the things used to be
its a new age
you are just caught
drifting taught on a string
behind a band wagon
riding for the stars
I'm tired and sick
of you telling me
what to do
your existence
like plaster
new, mint condition
the skies are blue
yet as years take toll
you fall and crumble
in lack of ability
to adapt to new fertility
you will be replaced
and my biggest concern
is that I would become
just like you

maybe those were the days
of aching hearts and sweaty palms
the uneasiness etched in our expressions
as we plaster our happiness on our quilted sleeves
the crunch of chips in the height of the night
so dark the stars would shine so bright,
of half-glimpsed eyes shot in the crowd
and our feet running, galloping
tile after tile in the blank of a hall
of swollen eyes from crying the night before
clutching our chests as the ache refuses to subside
of our lips pressed into thin lines,
grown tired from pressing against
the syllables of our desires,
maybe these are the days
in moments of catch phrases
and any excuse to pick an eye lash
to blow a wish, possibly making all of it
to be forever true,
yet life goes on and our bones grow stronger
as our plans sets us apart a bit longer
but the earth is spinning in circles and circles,
maybe the best of our days are only ahead of us
going in circles and circles

Age of Decadence
Eriko Jul 2015
for all the things labeled
in the exterior mirages
of turpentine reeking layers
worn lavishly by red lipstick
and silver tailored suits,

light illuminating marble counter tops
dusted by the next-thousand-block immigrant
the mother of four beautiful children
she clashes with the detriment of money

which filters back to champagne of that red lipstick,
the silver tailored suit a million floors above
encased within their own skeleton
they peel their skin so not to feel a thing

stuffed in a daycare tabooed because of its door handle
touched by mothers working wage to meet end's meet
children skipping their shoes
on the stains of the concrete underneath their feet
and not realizing a thing

the mother bustles through
alone but surrounded by grease
seething into the cracks of her heels
while her children grows by the tick
into the template configured by society

the smear of red lipstick
the wrinkle in the silver tailored suit
the system of trickle down economy
have gone down the throats of so many lives
as a diluted joker waving a flag sewn with white

this age of decadence
chooses to blind its kin
reality has been remodeled
into a Hollywood basement

the smirk creeping behind
vertical shafts of wooden surmise
pale pastel gold, deep blushing orange
faint impressions of stars
like a single bead of sand
toppled onto the white washed beach
where the pink coral tore wreckage
trees uprooted, a hawk nested
absent of a human presence
for some artifacts man cannot know
that the sun is beautiful
and the sea cries remorseful
the wind a living organism
the pink coral skeletons
and a new day's rise
a blessing in disguise

Rainy Summer Morn
Eriko Aug 2016
smell of faint, brisk summer morning
baby blue tennis shoes
running puddles of water
glimpses of smooth obsidian
on the slathered pavement,
black umbrella in one hand
a brewed cup of coffee,
unleavened with sweetness of cream
like the way the rain drizzles
without the kindness of a meadow stream
splash, the puddles ripple
and the rain creates apparent wrinkles
in the air and wet scenes
forged into a single continuity
which curves at the edges,
and swells in the appendages,
the body of a rainy summer morning
aching from long night's fast,
weeping like the endeavors
of single stroke of solitude,
the joy and vibrant yellows
ellipsed by the buffering grey morn

stepping onto the edge of a cliff
golden prairie brushing against your skin
the frothy seas bristle as thoughts float adrift
as waves crash onto sheer white rocks akin

breathe, you are a tree
the breeze resurfaces and kisses a melody
exhale, let the tension drain out
as the sky tumbles to commemorate your tragedies

close your eyes, you remain a tree
your roots travel far underneath
allow the space to come from within
and from the heart so shackled, so begin

balance against the tide
sightlessly gazing onto present converged
a foot on land and another in space once denied
open your gaze to your experiences submerged

stay, patience, let your branches grow
sleep, meditate, let your spirit heal
as the waves crash on those tumbling white stones
and an inner smile diminishes your withering woes

palace
Eriko Mar 2016
last night with my breath heaving ice
I dreamed of a palace towering so high
magnificent porcelain floors,
each tap of heels a vertigo
of ringing melodies upon shores,
marble white gleaming under
golden streaming sun,
the softest hue of gentle cerulean
kissed like shadows in the empty halls
vivid, startling red carpets muffling
the entrance to every doorway,
hidden diamonds of spruce floorboards
from the mothers of those elegance gnarls
swinging near the front porch,
I dreamt of a beautiful palace
empty but for the pounding in my chest
lingering on hilltop of some forgotten coast
with waves pounding and sleeping at will
wild meadows and daisies sang in the wind
lavender and pines smiled mystically,
the sky was blue, such a clear beautiful blue
I dreamt of this place,
with rooms cluttered of deepest desires
treasures of love, gems of happiness
stairwells to ambition and libraries of knowledge
studios to create and kitchens to splurge
yet I grew a faint as the sun began to smother
the castle walls were blood orange and deep yellow
now I could see the tremble of my shadow
I woke up to a startling start,
and tears rolled down as the plastic stars
glowed on my ceiling, the salivating fragrance
of fresh baked bread ringing with clarity
I dreamt of palace where I could simply be
with my pleasures and splurges,
following heart's content to sing free
are all palaces really temporary?
I don't know, the palace could be represented literally, but I also feel like the palace and the place symbolizes something else...

Mirroring glass into

The moon sways
Across the beaten sky,
And lonely it goes
The day has come by
And to show what it become
Light shafts upon the ground
Gently it glimmers
And my oh my the dark withers
With gnarls of curse
And hoots tearing its verse
Wonders of the younger
May have traveled to slumber
If cure the curious
Brimming of imagination
Yes they are reckless
Yet they capture the moment
Hidden wonders within thy flourish
Shall chance
Doubtless of others' chorus
When the moon retires
And the sun's pierce
Is taken to its knees
The dark will soon expire
But not in vain it will flee
Because the hours
Will skid across the
Icing sleek sky
Twittering and chirping
As blink of an eye
A powder of dust
The old will now
Rest in peace
As the youth's endless time
Starts to tick
Soon to rest, forever

From that jar hidden glistens,
Moss quilted over the with tight patterns

Ridden of ecstasy, mirroring mirage scrubbed
Of the seedlings I planted in place of you,
And now the sun has weathered and water
Flooded the void crestfallen in my rib cage,
I see how ******* wrong I was,
The tree which have bloomed stands
Alien and distant, unlike the way I supposed to happen
These crisscrossing bones around my heart
Are not meant to be torn apart,

Maybe in that jar, a tiny glass jar
Hidden in rocks and soil,
Kisses of spring water and haze
Of pearly whispering fog,
Someplace far away
With the lid barely clutched to the lip
Roots have devoured the pretty lies
The glass slipped deep into the green earth,
So if you dare entire my life, dare step into this void
A void rattling, singing, cursing and barking of laughter
A void of paints and cold leftovers
A void of running feet and fleeting glances
A void bedridden of danger and ringing
Of the purest love and affection

This Is Not A Love Story
Eriko Nov 2015
Prologue
a cavern grinning with flashes of teeth
to smile with those white things,
my love, my heart cannot help but seep
into the soft, soft soil it burrows down
and stretches its roots so that petals
and floral pigments radiate with heat
my love, I was brought to my knees
and the skies a turmoil of gray,
when you told me I couldn't be
yours to keep that day,
and so the days wore by
and my hands rummaged with
paradox melodies,
cracked with paint and sores
wondering at how I possible can
feel alone

Prologue
the reminiscent of your laughter
crooked gently in the stern of your chin
and the corners of your eyes
kissing the ends of your cheeks,
the fly of words a blushing fury
of the most beautiful syllables,
softly pecking at the strings
which stitched the folds of my heart
when I thought it would tear me apart,
to always exist along your side,
but to never have your hands folded around mine

Present**
the echo of the past still travels steadfast
and the petals which have bloomed in contrast
have drunk the glory while it last,
yet, my love, the sun is sinking fast
and the cold winter is creeping to steal
what was mine stolen by the flickering fireside,
connections burrowed deeper and the seed
grown into a magnificent willow in breathtaking strife
the jargon infused of salt, ridden from the shore
feels like a home where the prints from the sand
won't be blown away,
at night the waves play a silent game
with the tug of the moon and the succulent
kisses trickling in the gorgeous fray,
now by your side there is no where else
I would rather be,
kindling the fire to keep the permafrost
from creeping into your sheets
my friend, my dear, dear friend
heed my advice and believe,
scream at the sky with vigor and pulsing life
share the love you carry
from the mountainous caverns of your chest
and brighten the galaxy in everyone's night sky
like how you have done the same
for me
and soon, very soon, my dear friend,
as tragic as time endures unforeseen,
we would have to our part ways
so as long as we can,
lets hold our hands like how it used to be,
just like how it is now,
like how it is now

Title: Optional
Eriko Aug 2015
Title (optional)
could it really be that simple
to wake up one spring morning
with streaming golden sunlight
through a window pane

or to open our eyes
to a shower of cascading snowflakes
twinkling with delicacies
authentic like temperamental daises
the waft of lavender laughter
sweeping through the crack of a door

can we really decide one day
at a five o'clock traffic jam
or a forty five minute tram
even while listening to the pound of our hearts
as we jog along a stand of trees
or the comfort of one's warmth
have our breaths' taken away
at the sight of the mahogany sunlit
settling time of treacherous days

could it really be that easy
to decide what we would want to be
to entitle our own rightful marrow
and to know that even
as the second ticks on now
that there is that optional

and for one's life to be like a poem
there does not always have to be a title
there is no one else more qualified to give it
but by the heart of the individual

so give it second
or a day
or a lifetime
there doesn't have to be a label
one can have one
only if one wants to

it is not bad
nor is it good
it is what it truly is
wrought by simplicity and virtue
people do have chances
and people are not
categorized into laminated labels
we all think to be true
like the glossy illustrations
of pop magazines
contaminated by the idea
that people are
or aren't

people are, in fact
whoever
they want to be
and they can write their own poem
how ever they wish
help to ease
into modern hostility

just wait for their fingers
to reach for the pen
and to touch the precious ink
they have all been waiting
to see what they have
always known to be

as it narrows in capsules

the fruits have blurred
and the glimmer marginalized
sustain this eloquent guild
in the heart of Matilda

Canal
Eriko Apr 2017
the lush greenery springing from the canal,
thick vines twisting and rooting
into the cobblestone and cement,
elephant-sized green leaves hovering
and its spiraling vines snaking across
the expanse of the slippery, slippery rock
from the canal water chants happily,
bubbling and choppy, reminiscing
of its mountainous origin, carrying
pure water and gracious elements
of its northern origin
I was inspired by the coming of spring.

masks
Eriko Mar 2016
serenity encompassing the shy masks
masked marble stone with the sliver of gold
two slits and a mouth to taste
those withering syllables left decadently on shore

masks, masks drinking roaming with haste
jumbles of words unspoken and texts never sent
interiors slashed as desire gathered and clashed

how long can our masks endure to the last?

last sip of golden beams
quench the sunlight with aching feet
last time stepping out the auditorium door
I swear, you were a great actor amidst the despair
last time you'll lay your eyes into another
getting lost trying to comprehend the dots
the last stroke of fear eradicated the moment
the fastens are unclasped,

fall
     tumbling
                     flying
                               spinning
                                              exhilaration
                                                                   clarity
                                                                              weightless
as the mask becomes of no more
something like vertigo,
sudden visions of peripheral miracles
and yearn to feel your own cheekbones
we all have our own masks
sometimes for different things

antlers
Eriko Feb 2016
A cluster of antlers
knocking upon whithering
knots of raspberry flesh
shredded from smitten jagged
Ends of your hands
Call back the yawn of Sun
brilliant gorges of yellow beams
string back the gorgeous night
where sorrows are to be drowned
and glittering stars to be sewn
onto my flesh and bone
wielding a cloak of thrice longevity  stars are same as the sun
Clutch onto last remnants,
Desires behold, life to love whole
Keep my sanity, throw caution to wind
Run with those stags,
knock antlers and breathe
kiss the deer and drink water
running through the creek of laughter
Don't really know where I was going with this

Falling Words
Eriko Jul 2016
if a word is to end in fire
perish howling where the eyes below
             may never turn blind eye
shall a guardian steady a watchful eye
                            while the syllables fall
so that the earth may rumble
                                             encompassed in a crimson sky

field of suns
Eriko Apr 2017
the simmering summer heat
lingering like a blanket of sticky tack
weighing on the leaves of the
bright summer suns,
the radiating petals
golden array of sunlight
rows upon rows
where the eyes tend to meet,

holstered with swaying stalks
thick, green leafy stems
whispering in the slight breeze
the sweltering heat humming with life
as the buzzing increases in strife
the screaming cicadas, the speckled path
striking down the field of suns
for the secret, secret place to sing

Emerald Green
Eriko Mar 2015
an emerald lake
gleaming under light
a shadow envelopes
its crestfallen wight

the creature resonates a shrill
and the adolescence withers, so frail
beaten by the tyrants of modern drill
the wight thirst for Mother's milk

and while the dank shadow
beats the surface of emerald waters
the shore begins to weep of sorrow
with eyes trailed by that of fathers

the storm brews and the wight lays
concealed, nonexistent, and cold as stone
where has gone the golden ray
and the emerald green where the youth once roamed

Crosshair Lovers
Eriko Mar 2016
far past the settling night
once to be confused,
casting waning yellow lampshade
on the turning pages
of lovers gone astray,

far into hours of another day
streaming sunshine shifting
through clouds,
a simple touch and a phone call
which never comes,

the darkness unsettling
early morning hours
of frightening a.m's
streaks of tears glimmering,
leaving beautiful dew drops
on the lashes
where another somebody
can gently kiss
for you

one night to speak of truth
dinner for nobody but you
smooth liquor and fluttering crickets
stars glimmering, constellations crossing
like crosshairs, catching the comets
of burning love meant to fall
and burn in marvelous casts
of another wish

That moment when
The shards of the sun
Drift like embers
And catch fire,
Igniting the earth
With its brilliance,
Momentarily pulling
Those who are buried
Out of their trance

tadpole
Eriko May 2017
so soon, always so soon
as the last draft of floating wind
whispers through the blades of grass
picking feet through the gnarled roots
the rain puddling along the sand dunes,
wait, wait I say with gulps of quivering breath
as the tad poles skitter along the dappled light
and the thick greenery overcrowds the cerulean sky
the waning golden light falls behind the looming horizon
leaving my feet to pick its way in the its shadow,
my eyes adjusting to the dampness of the willows,
the silence is hushed, the leaves brush
like unwelcome notions of a broken friendship,
and as I stumble my way through, yearning
for the last flare of brilliant partnership
the moon careens high above my head, settling in
a gentle tug, pulling at the shadows and casting
the faintest silvery beam for my eyes to seize,
and I pick my feet to through the winding--
abruptly, beautifully, my with the most magnificent spur
the night erupts in a frenzy of piano keys as minuscule
bugs carrying the stomachs of fire swirl, swirling into
the potholes through the leafy ceiling, and smiling I ran,
sprinted, with ease of a swimming tadpole
skittering along the stardust and infinite life line
