Sometimes
Life keeps moving when you're trying so hard to hold still.
Roll with the punches, make changes, do something to better yourself
Or *simply fade away.

There's more out there,
There's undiscovered emotions and ideas that could broaden your horizons wider than the most beautiful sunset that you may never even see because you were too set in your ways to go outside your comfortable little box and really SEE the world.

*The choice is yours.
The way morning sunlight creeps through the blinds,
Light streaming in, crisp and warm and new

The way air makes its way to our lungs and we feel the energy
The rush of fresh oxygen

    The way snow falls,
Small, clumsy flakes at first
And grows into an all encompassing blizzard

THAT is how to fall in love
You are the
        window
              to my pain
  Cloudy with
            no chance of clarity
      I can see
               how far
away you are
                    Out of focus,
           still hurting me
                      *so easily
Not everything that breaks is unusable, like my heart for example.
Across the dark sky
The bright moon
Lights up the night
And wraps the oblivious town
In a beautiful cocoon
Keeping the late night dwellers
With midnight dreams
Safely hidden
From the sins of the city
And just before the sun
Steals away the dark
Those late night dwellers
With midnight dreams
Find pieces of their hearts
Caught in a Butterfly Dawn
Being ripped at the seams
And a beauty that once was
Is now dead and gone
Once when I was young,* I was told you could swing so high you'd be able to just *fly away.

   I learned early on
That not everything we're told is true
The fantastical can sometimes amount to a pile of plastic bags scattered in the wind
The end isn't always happy and there's not always closure
Punctuations are more often question marks than definitive periods
And looking for a definite explanation took prevalence over allowing our imaginations to fill in the blanks.
Play time was replaced with study time,
And before we knew it, it was time for work
We strayed from the playgrounds of our youth,
Never returning to the top of the slide, we'd hit the ground a bit too hard to keep the enchantment of seemingly endless possibilities going
Carriages became pumpkins long before midnight,
And the school bell rang before we could finish our fun
But to tell the truth, sometimes,
When everyone else has gone inside, back to the real world, full of logic and banalities,
I sit on the old swingset kicking my feet
Hoping it will let me *soar
I picked a flower in May just to watch her blossom all for myself
Beautiful and brilliant I sat her in a glass on a shelf
I added water so she wouldn't go dry
Magnificence such as hers I couldn't let die
I watched as she grew
Time flew and flew
Her petals orange and blue like a vanilla sky
As she prospered and danced I noticed a change
Something very strange that caught my eye
Her stems became vines intertwined simultaneously with my poetry and life
In place of green,
She overflowed out of the glass in white sheets of paper
And it was there she made her illustration so divine
A perfect drawing of a heart
That turned out to be mine
The hardest
part
of
falling
in love
is,
not
knowing
if
he
feels
the same
way
you do.*

We don't choose who we fall in love with.
she said that love was dangerous
in the way it cuts to the bone
and that love wasn't meant for the both of us
best if we leave it alone

she said love doesn't really break
more like tears your heart apart
she also said love gives away
all of the very best parts

she said that love is camouflaged
hiding out deep in the weeds
and what you most expect from love
is something you'll never see

when she said that love was dangerous
all of this i should have known
that love wasn't meant for the both of us
as i find myself here all alone
