Scraps
Allison Jones Jun 2016
I searched for you my whole life.
Ripping people open to see if I could recognize you inside them.
None of them were you.
The day I found you, I could barely hold on.
I had scraps where slabs should be.
I hadn’t realized they were ripping me apart too.

For the love of contrast...
Allison Jones Jul 2016
You're all cigarettes and whiskey,

I'm like honeysuckle and gin.

But baby when we're together,

it's just too good to be a sin.

Oxymoronic
Allison Jones Jan 2016
Bonded by the magic of fantasy, of intellect,
Ensnared by riddles, promises, setting suns,
Tangled up in sheets, in softness,
Freed up within each other,
You, and me, and our cold flame.

How to Love a Wild Flower
Allison Jones Jun 2016
Claim me,
And set me free,
Over and again,
Within the same day.
Allison Jones Jul 2016
Yet sometimes when the backyard fills up,
and glows with that silvery grey light,
and I’m tucking into my big enough bed,
and fluffing all of the pillows around me,
my bones ache for your bones,
and my mouth waters for your mouth,
and my skin chills for your skin,
and my mind races for your mind,
and my heart cries out for your heart,
I miss you (and I shouldn’t even miss you).

We Are But
Allison Jones Jan 2016
We are but one
of those tiny specks of light
that color this world.
The canvas, empty night of a map,
our fireworks are but
faint shimmers in the
lightning of the infinite.

I'm Fine, I Swear
Allison Jones Jun 2016
A river of emotion hit me ruthlessly today,

But I’m fine.

A flood of tears poured down my face today,

But I’m fine.

A reel of highlights and lows played back in my mind today,

But I’m fine.

A song hit me a bit too hard today,

But I’m fine.

A cage of sound waves entrapped me today,

But I’m fine.

A love lost is hurting me from a far again today,

But I. Am. Fine.

Caffeinated Spark
Allison Jones Jan 2016
And so it went
Ripped apart, a holy day,
Then loose ends tied back together.
Ancient paths lay between us and
Fate’s strings led our swift birth and slow death as
We were created to destroy
Old ties and birth new beginnings and
To take one another to grand heights and new lows.
And though it is true that now
My heart is with another, his arms around one too
I still wonder if I will ever lose this taste
Of my mouth wondering why
covenants cannot be broken.

Oversized
Allison Jones Nov 2016
Has your heart ever been so heavy,
that you feel as though you can’t breathe,
that with every beat it grows in size,
until there’s no more room left in your body,
for anything but its ache,
ache,
aching?
Allison Jones Apr 2016
Standing there, watching the waves,
I thought we had it.

But we were dying as that sun was setting.

Fading beautifully, as only something involving humans can,
Burning the sky in shades of glorious reds.

Our castle, built of sand and borrowed time,
Washed a sea in a fortnight,
Left but faint indentations in its wake.

Meanwell, meanwhile
Allison Jones Jan 2016
A smile, a nod, a promise
I’m fine. But meanwhile
A hurricane rips right through
My mind.

Safety Net

Kissing you is like creating a new world;
I only want to dive into this new consciousness
again,
and again,
and again.

Untilted, No. 977
Allison Jones Jan 2016
Have you ever felt
the heft of existence?
I hope not, my love.
For you, I hope you float
Along like florets of a dandelion
From breeze to breeze
Never tied down
But forever infinite and alight.
