you thought
you were better just due to that one aspect
highly regarded in proverbial society
but those ideals were not
cast in iron and stone
there was always something else to learn
if you could only open your eyes
There's something to learn from everyone. Always.

They said that the breeze
Told them nothing but miseries
They said that the grass
Inhaled nothing but nurseries
They said, “We seek you for tragedies,
And we want our tears to pick your lyers;
we made you dreams of catastrophic allegories,
and we want our grief to mourn over your prejudice
of undesired futures.”
They claimed that they were conjured of
Passion and mysteries
Of knowledge other than blasphemies
They said, “We chant you for the last morning tea
We desire you for your ever-after evening satires,
Stay, and keep us for the crystal wires
Of your undying lyres.”
They said so as desired and as deprived,
Yet if they are so afraid to lose
Why do they seek in the first place?

“Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees,”
Billie Holiday sang in 1939.
Those bodies don’t swing no more,
no, they lay in the streets for hours in the hot sun.
Moses said let my people go, now we say,
let my people live.
Dr. King prayed for a day when this would
all end, but here we are still fighting.
Peaceful as a dove, we marched and scream
until our lungs give out, but to no avail, we still die.
A time of peace may come, but rainbows only
appear after the rain; this storm isn’t over yet.

When you say racism doesn't exist, you are saying one of the most detrimental things you can say in our society. You are saying I know better. You are saying that it is okay. The things that you have experienced and the pain that you have felt is okay. Because I don't think it's real. I don't trust your experiences. I don't believe that you know more about what it is like to be you than I do. I don't care what history has to say. I don't care what you have to say. I don't trust you so your words don't matter to me. I don't trust you so your pictures, videos, interviews don't matter to me. When you say racism doesn't exist... What you're really saying is, "I still can't hear you."

And what then won't a person do to be heard?
Told to look to the future,
But only seeing the past.
Told to keep moving on,
But always turning back.
Told that looks don't matter,
But judged on first impressions.
Told to be unique,
But forced into others' intentions.
Told to innovate,
But creativity shot down.
Told to be accepting,
But hated for praying aloud.
Told to be honest,
But fed the media's lies.
Told to love,
But watches as it dies.

So, are you happy now?
Pleased with what you've done?
Pressure, hate and prejudice,
Destroy the innocence of the young.

My head isn't bare
So trouble i'm hiding
You assume
Under my scarf
Within my hair
Yeah, of course that's true
Because feelings i don't have
And to care i never do
WOW what some people
Sophisticated much
in wardrobe and appealing,
But how about
thoughts and some feelings?
This one is for those Muslim girls (including me)treated differently for the religion they decided to pursue and the body they decided to cover , always stay strong and never lose hope :)
i was inspired to write this poem from the song "free" by muslim singer sami yusuf { http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aTsQL42-cg }

Q: Why i wear a heart necklace ?
A: Because it's an extra heart,
I can keep
On top
Of the one
I already have!
It reminds me
Of
Love
That exists in the world!
And
Of
Love
That this world still needs !
It also reminds me
Of
Kindness
That surrounds this world.
It also reminds me
Of
The cruelty too.
It reminds me
Of
equality
that has filled the world.
It also reminds me
Of
The prejudice too.
It reminds me
Of
Hope
That lightens the paths of many!
It also reminds me
Of
The people
Whom need reminding
That its just baby steps away !
That heart shaped object
Represents many things,
lying beautifully dead on my chest.
But the real live one
Is buried deep in my chest ,
And a life (long or short)
Its looking ahead to.
And i should introduce myself
With
Love,
Kindness ,
Equality,
And never ever
Lose
HOPE!!

I shall never forget these experiences.

Today is lovely and charming.
the crisp autumn air
is indeed magical;
however, no
enchantment or elixir or trance

can rival the true
bliss of how I
felt in those
gay summer days.

I know that
those days of yore
are gone forever,

but I can't help
to relive those days:

those ones I refer to
as my 'awakening',

those ones in which
I grew up,

those ones in which
I knew no fear or prejudice,

save only love and courage.
