Triumphantly raised colorful flagpole insignia dynasties
of this country and that country and other country
destroying each other territorial
like rabid animals and house pets.
Atomic bomb cat food will feed us full
in fallout by the end!
Meeeee-oww!
Falling into oblivion
The nothingness feels nice
Knowing one day i won’t care
Gives me sweet delight

I hate pickles
neon green colored cubes of sweet bitter vinegar fermented cucumbers that have lost their identity in green no. 3
and dealing with oblivion seems like
(green pickles)
......disgusting and
it makes me lose my identity.

so please give me adrenaline for
whenever my heart sinks
so I don't fall into oblivion
sans-identity

like pickles

Shadows of Night Apr 2015
O child of the sun,
Don't you notice the radiance,
The radiance you give others to smile,
The light they find in the dark,
Was because of you?

Your glow is contagious,
Your laugh remains in our memory,
Light touches our hearts,
Makes us forget about mistakes,
But what about you?

O child of the sun,
Where is your radiance?
Where is your smile, your love?
You touch the heart of others,
Lighting their world, darkening yours.

You know the taste of oblivion,
The price of forgetting,
The pain of loving,
Yet not feeling loved.
You know the feeling of fading away.

O child of the sun,
You hesitate before firing your bow,
Afraid to take a life.
Your hesitation has cost you a dear friend,
How do you live on?

Your music touches your soul,
The only feeling you have left.
You control the notes,
And form them from your soul.
But who listens, besides you?

O child of the sun,
Your heart was stolen by ice,
Covered and frozen...
When the fire touches it,
It burns more than it should.

Your friends see you as an ally,
But you always feel alone.
Life always seems hollow yet brimmed with light,
You feel like your friends take you for granted,
Because they don't know who you truly are,

Until you're gone.
What do you see* ?
When you shut your weary/gleamy eyes,
Do you see what I see ?
Do you see me ?
Do you see the person you used to be ?
Do you see the ghosts of all the people
who were a part of your insignificant life ?

What do you see ?
The light at the other end or
**Oblivion.

Terrible traffic today.
Long, endless lines of cars
all edging towards a similar
definition of home.

The droning on of the talk show host
made me want to call you
but you didn’t pick up,
of course.

Frustrated people make illegal u-turns
while I fumble with the radio
rubbing my temples
and trying not to lose my sanity.

Finally, I creep to the scene
where the accident occurred.
I see the two cars and I get a feeling
I know that car.

Just as I am redirected
I glance past the paramedics
and see you in that car.

And in that moment
My heart just... stopped
And I died too.

You're* the shell I once kept safe
Now carefully shoved away

You're the song I once loved
Now deleted for it caused boredom

You're the book I once read over and over and over
Now easily packed on the shelf

You're the food I once stored to eat
Now decomposed in the trash long gone to the heap

You're the flower I once nurtured
Now dying without a drought

You're the candle I've always kept lit
Now the flames put out.

You were the one always on my mind
Yet after so much, still on my mind.

till this day you remain
Meredith Riggs Feb 2015
everybody just sits around and waits for something to happen
nothing ever does
we just sit
and sit
and sit
then we might scream our emotions out
or push them to the side
or watch bad movies
maybe even find a new hobby
to distract ourselves
from the nothing-ness
that is
us
Forgotten.
"I didn't realise you weren't there"
"I actually forgot all about you"
"I'm so sorry I forgot our appointment"
How many times
Can one be forgotten?
Oblivion is the state of being completely forgotten,
They say it comes with death
Yet I have achieved it in life.
The quotes in this poem are just a small selection of phrases which people have said to me lately. It hurts but writing helps.

fears are strange

i fear things that are practical
like that those sirens
are rushing towards a love one
that i didn't tell them
how much i loved them
when i saw them last

i also fear things
that i feel unpractical
like snakes
the thought sends chills
in through my body
and makes me want to cry

but my biggest fear
is being forgotten
is falling into oblivion

and as cliche
and boring
as i seem
i know no other fear
then being forgotten

but other days
i want to embrace my fear
and fall into an oblivon
to be forgotten
to never have to worry
to never have to exist

it's a delicate balance
of life
and death, really.

I have this obsession with being forgotten.
