his mom gone at only eight,
a child lost and confused
his only clarity found on a mix tape
that if he could be in control of one thing was his name -
"starlord"
so innocent for twenty-two only to regain
his past.
shoved and pushed into a fish-eye view of the universe
trying not go insane
maneuvering his way around the stars
navigate
orienting his only human body into something inhumane
a guardian
people would call him,
he would hug his steel helmet around his brain
and see his world as it really is:
bright red
suffocates
but still manages to plaster a smile,
dumb jokes in his teeth to entertain
that if only somehow his scrabble of a life could turn
"fright" into "light"
but for god's sake
there is no light in black holes
a view opaque
only galaxies revolving around them,
other supernovas about to collapse
to conceal their fate
this is actually about Guardians of the Galaxy um

Box Office Breaker
I’m sorry if you’ll be hurt with what’s up my sleeve
But HBO lied, Universal deceived.
From adults swearing to ******, useless quarrels
Not every great movie comes with great morals

Whether they’re vile or full of wonder
All movie characters seem to end six feet under.
Lives blown away like husks in the wind,
People **** anyone of any variety
Is this really the direction of our society?

Death is the end, but it’s just the beginning
‘Cause movies approve other methods of sinning.
Whiskey bottles are emptied, and smoking gives class
Teens can kiss as they please, and it’s great to have sass

How are we desensitized to people being killed?
How much more death is needed until our satisfaction is filled?
How can we live when our integrity’s sent to slaughter?
How can we breathe if we’re drowning in sin’s waters?

In a world where we need to love what’s right
Our faith is assaulted, yet, do we put up a fight?
We watch as the world venomously mocks our statutes.
We may be called to stand, but not stand like statues.

If you think this is just a battle that shouldn’t be fought
Just look at all the chaos these dogmas have wrought
I’m sure there wouldn’t have been any school shooting
If the cameras at action films hadn’t been shooting
Let’s try to clear the cinemas for the approaching era
For how can a young child follow God if no one does on camera?

We are losing this war,
Satan marches with his crew
How can our hearts and minds survive
When the defenders are so few?

We can rise up in arms if we rise up in words and actions
Keep battling through the trenches of violent reactions
With God in our hearts, and the Bible in our hands
The Holy Spirit will energize us as we purify the lands

Don’t do it for the fame, don’t try to take the honors
Be humble in your victories, and God will give heaven’s Oscars.
Be a Christian who shapes as he is shaped, be an earth shaker.
Do it all in the name of Jesus, be a box office breaker.
Another religious spoken word poem by my friend.
Great stuff, huh?

Have you ever read a book,
So sad it made you cry?
Have you ever read a book,
So much that you felt high?
Have you ever read a book,
So real you felt in sync?
Have you ever read a book,
So sensual you turned pink?

Have you ever watched a movie,
So dynamic you wish you could fly?
Have you ever watched a movie,
So convincing you'd comply?
Have you ever watched a movie,
So awesome you couldn't blink?
Have you ever watched a movie,
So perplexing it made you think?

Have you ever imagined these stories,
And really wished them to be true?
Have you ever sat and realized,
That these stories helped shape you?
Just a quick poem I wrote as I sat and watched one of my favorite shows and realized how much some things really shape us sometimes without you really noticing.

Dating someone who lives through books and who lives through movies just to feel something... you are going to have to be patient and understanding. Because these people have never felt a love from someone so beautiful. And what's dangerous is the fact that they have lived their life hoping for a love like the book they read, for the movie they watched. And this is where you need to be patient and understanding.
Be patient, don't think that just because they lived their lives in a world that is made up, that they will always think they will need a world like that.
Don't runaway.
Stay.
Be patient and teach them, show them that reality is not on a t.v. screen.
It's not in a world that you paint in your head, but that you will show them that they can depend on you and you will love them with everything you have.
That you will believe in their love.
That you will fight for them.
Show them the world outside the pixalated screen.
Show them that although it's not the world they imagined, it is a world worth living and fighting for.
Lastly, be understanding.
Understand from their point of view.
That they have not felt a love so strong or a love so beautiful.
That they want someone to look at them at 5 in the morning with no make-up on, to look at them like they are the most beautiful creature on this earth.
To have small, but amazing moments.
To have someone to hate and love at the same ******* time.
To have someone they can trust.
Understand that all they ******* want is to be shown how to love, and alongside have someone love them.

To fit a different mold
Was your fondest wish
To have and hold

To be the red sore thumb
Forever clapping tongue

And every little child of the day
Will know you, Name and Face

And every little child of the day
Every muttering head of grey
Will know you, by Name and Face

Press, your hands against the glass
Your fingerprints upon the screen

Be, the flawless fantasy
As styles go from rough to clean

And every little dripping note of praise
Will be swept up in a haze
A halo, round your head

Every little dripping note of praise
Every passing latest craze
Will stoop and scrape
So far down low

Hold, your lock of famous hair
A dream you'll always keep

When, its more than you can bear
Out the window shout: I am unique

For the hardest part of living out the day
Finger bone and nose to stone

Is knowing

You are one of millions

And will never be alone
Or don't. Your choice.

So now you're gone with happiness and independence.
I'm stuck with baggy eyes and these cliche *** romantic comedies.
From time to time I stare at clocks and think about what he had that I didn't.
I wear watches now, not bracelets.

a gale Aug 2014
I leave the door open
Stay awake at 3 am
Sit by the window
Every time it rains
Waiting for things
That’s never going to happen

But darling, I need to stop
Because things like that
They only happen in movies

And, darling
This is nothing
Like the movies

Because, darling,
You are never coming back
