My lapse
was that I cared
about the result of
the game.

EVERDREAM
I ask on this cold night
      What do you truly fright?
      Your expression unfazed
      by the constellation's alight

EVERCHANGE
      You say sorrow is endless
      I say freedom is nearest
      Because the power within
      truly shines brightest

EVERGREEN
      Look how the petals sway
as it leads you to the way
      to intake the beauty
      that is here to stay
After looking back at all the hardships I've been through in my past and realizing that I was able to successfully reach out of those terrible places, I found the inspiration to create this poem.

The title and certain key elements were inspired by a game character: Lindis (The Sentinel) from Arena of Valor

i fell in love with your
eyes, but then your eyes became
pits of darkness inside life's plum and it
wasn't quite okay with me but i dealt with it because they were
yours.

i fell in love with your
heart, but then your heart became
a ball of wires of darkness inside your chest and it
wasn't quite okay with your mother and least of all me but i dealt with it because it was
yours.

i fell in love with your
hair, but then your hair became
packing straw inside of a barrel made of mahogany and it
wasn't quite okay with your deadbeat dad and least of all me but i dealt with it because it was
yours.

i fell in love with your
lips, but then your lips became
cold and too much like your great great great grandmother's and it
wasn't quite okay with your brother and least of all me but i dealt with them because they were
yours.

i fell in love with your
words, but then your words weren't
heard and it wasn't quite okay with anyone
least of all me but i dealt with it because they were
yours.

i fell in love with
you.
but then you weren't you and it wasn't quite okay with
me.
it was okay with me least of all.
but i deal with it.

i deal with what you were.

Intoxicated from the weight of euphoria,
Silence drips viscously into the soul
Until drowning is no longer a fear,
But an option.

Feet wet from nostalgia
Of ungraspable motions,
Time rests heavily on dewed eyelids...

The soul buries itself further.
This was from a prompt about something that brings you happiness and deeply saddens you at the same time. I chose Melancholia.

last night i dreamt
of angels and seraph blades and the world catching fire
and it's inevitable that we're all going to die
so i really think that for love's sake, we should try,
and ill hold you in my arms til it's our time, there's no need to cry
Sara Svensson Oct 2017
Sunflowers were named sunflowers for the way their petals resemble the rays
radiating from the sun.

When I saw you I named you Melancholia.

For I took one look at you and noticed the air of melancholy surrounding your very being,

and I knew it to be your name.

On the eve
Of the eve
Of tomorrow
I heard a distant cry

On the eve
Of the eve
Of tomorrow
Was never answered why

On the eve
Of the eve
Of tomorrow
Now isn't as it seems

On the eve
Of the eve
Of tomorrow
Today was but a dream
