Hidden
Ben Apr 2020
The tide hides the shore
But if you have the patience to wait
Slowly, it will recede, revealing the most
Beautiful parts, the most sensitive parts
The parts few others ever get to see

Kindness
Ben Apr 2020
Kindness works in mysterious and strange ways
It can often seem like cruelty
Fruitless and merciless
How the worst things happen
To the best of people
It sometimes seems unfair

But in the end, it all has meaning
A hidden purpose that fate decided
That kindness comes to those who can see
The light at the end of tunnel
And make it through the darkness in between

Unprepared

Nothing in life
Prepares you for
The moment when you meet
Your everything:

My love, my lover
My light, my listener,
My stars and my guide,
My angel from heaven.

All my life
I waited.
Now all I can do
Is cry.

Because I know
That when all else fails me
I will wake up
Looking into your eyes.

Overwhelmed
By happiness when I’m with you
And sadness when I’m not.
By fear for what is to come
And solace in what already has.

I think I never understood
The concept of love,
As I grasp
Not one emotion
But every emotion, all at once.
Singing and dancing in beautiful harmony
In my heart, all for you.

Can you hear?
Can you feel it now?
Under the palm of your warm hand
Lying at rest
On my bare, naked chest.

This silence is enough
To speak a thousand million words,
Because those three words are not enough;
Love does not speak in tongues,
It speaks in hearts.
In our hearts.

So, I may be overwhelmed.
I may detach myself sometimes.
I may cry myself to sleep,
In silent gratitude.
Just know, whatever I may seem
Whatever you may feel
I will always love you
As our hearts know the truth,
And always will.

Shaking but I'm not cold
Lost for words but speaking clearly
Darlin’ I think you feel it
This energy that connects us, because

Emotions don’t usually get the better of me
But I must have saved all my love for you
Because I can't help thinking about us two
Everything single second, and
If I stole your heart,
Then you arrested mine, as

I picked up the signs
Read between the lines
Pressed my leg closer to yours
Now I'm falling off the sofa
But it's not the only way I'm falling.

Now my eyes have found yours,
Deep blue and soft; untouched.
You smile from cheek to cheek
Thinking exactly that which I can’t say
That

Love is not a choice,
But it isn’t blind
For love gave me the clarity to see
The only thing that matters, because

Side by side and
Lip to lip
With hands held between,
Alone or not
It’s only us
When I'm with you.

The truth has set in now, nestled
Deeply, rooted in your heart so you will
Never forget.
Don't let me forget either
That

Two hearts crafted were for one fit, so
With care and compassion
We may build something to last
So you can be forever mine.
You are forever mine

Reflection
Ben Jun 2019
I might exaggerate sometimes
But I swear, I don’t imagine it.
Those eyes tell me everything I need to know,
So, are you sure you want to go so soon?

Come with me now, baby
The rain outside is still heavy
Just lie here with me
And we can act casually.

I know you have your problems;
I have mine too.
But they don’t define us.
We refine them.

The future may be scary,
But here in my arms so tightly
You don’t have to be wary
Or worry for what is to come

We’ve come this far
But there is still a way to go,
So much to enjoy,
So much to explore.

Just enjoy this moment,
Where you can feel safe and free
Because it’s not over
Even if we aren’t together
Forever.

A lifetime of springtime

I met you in spring,
Feelings nurtured to bloom:
My heart grew there too.

Without opening the cover
I need your help now

Uncharted
Ben Jun 2019
I’m nervous.
I suppose that’s to be expected.
You said to be continued -
I’m sure you’re nervous too.

You look pretty in the moonlight
Standing there, eyes bright:
Uptight.
I barely even know you.
There’s time for all that.

Deep and rich
Are the rolling waves, pulsing tide,
Like the waters of an exotic land
I hope to find with you.

It seems we are travelling there now,
Without moving an inch.
I’m closer to you now,
Beginning to understand that

Before I met you, I wasn’t looking;
Now I’ve found the best treasure,
And I will treasure it,
Cleaning it when it gets tarnished.

Alone
Ben Jun 2019
As I approach the broken path,
The rolling hills,
Deep dusty baths
Of valleys waning
Far into the distance,
Beyond the smoky sky’s reaching;

I notice black broken rocks askew.
The breathless air,
Late mourning dew
Disrupted.

The land sits at unease,
Holding its bated breath
For something that would never happen.

I stand
Dazed; mind deterring
My hitherto partner.

I think to how I have passed this way before,
How it was different
How it was my first time
How the land was fresh and full of life
How time has degraded it.

Now it had passed,
Yet scars were left;
Not only to the land…

Struggling, I now remember
In blinding clarity
That I had passed this way before,
Alas, not alone.

Thank you
Ben Jun 2019
We often forget,
Despite our best intentions,
What goes on behind closed doors.
Lacking in appreciation for those who deal with it
Everyday.
That it is only occasionally that
We, the observers,
Must open those doors, but a crack,
And take a stolen glance at what we
Would rather believe is impossibly unnatural.

So here I am to thank you
For being the exact person that I
Needed you to be.
Perfectly timed and orchestrated,
As if it were meant to happen;
That you should come along
Not simply to be another observer. Instead,
A fateful gatekeeper
Whom, by chance, held the key
To the closed doors of my heart.

All at once
It comes so naturally.
Finally, into fruition
A beautiful blossom
Bursting with life.
Springs.
Organically nurtured; cared for with
A profound love,
Unbeknownst.

Magic Balloon
Ben Jun 2019
I’m soaring high,
Floating.
Far up and free; that feeling we all know so well,
The one I have never felt before:
I feel it now
As I’m lifted away
On my magic balloon.

Delirious, in awe
I lose sense of time,
As that feeling we all know so well
Raptures me, binds me
And I’m lifted away
On my magic balloon.

Up here I’m suffocating.
All my doubts and denials fade away,
Strangled out of me
When I look into your eyes,
Seeing the true meaning of my life.

But all good things must end,
And every dream fades with time;
Truth runs its course
And that feeling we all know so well; bursts
And I hurtle back down,
Back down to solid earth
Where I cannot even remember being lifted away,
On my magic balloon,
And how I felt it would last forever.

Beyond Certainty
Ben Jun 2019
Like stars are the glitter of the sky,
Sprinkled on the horizon
You bring fresh clarity, highlighting
Life’s meaning; a spattering of glitter on each day
In a dismal world.
A touch of magic, exceptionally pure.
I feel it deep down, awakening
From a slumber so restful
I knew not of its existence,
And without expectation or meaning
It will bloom.
So, with true love,
We’ll feel it together;
On mutual ground,
A safe place where anything can be said
But only three words will.
