"hercules" poems
I'm so alone now in this shelter as a cocoon Empty and unholy Insecure and maybe moody I'm so unafraid now I've turned my guilt into a blaze As I rage against the enemies I create Its the path of freedom in this miserable escape towards happiness I wasn't particular about the things that I expected from you Just obvious with the what and when and where and how but never with the why I knew the secret rules of boundaries and respect Silence is a way to watch it all or twist it all, or hide it all Silence was the one time you fell apart when all the other times you weren't too far from Hercules I am angry with you, patient with you I can't lose sleep over it I'll just cry in terror You can just sit there careless I guess its times like these when you realize the things you want And the things you don't I'm unhappy At this  very instant But even most days I can muscle up the energy I can focus on whats right and whats now and what can be You can sit there drown in your solitude because if you can't let it out and you won't let me in Eventually the guilt from your kisses will be swallowed in acid And the reaction of which will eat you alive

Eating You Alive
its said that children dream of magical heroes, much like hercules. or superman. the avengers. or power rangers. they place all their faith in these mythical strangers. strangers who fight all the "bad", and restore all the "good", as if the heroes themselves, are never misunderstood. as if superman, never lost a single fight, and the red power-ranger, never tossed and turned at night. as if hercules, never wished he wasn't as strong, as if the avengers, always got along. what children don't realize, when reading these books, and watching these shows, is that everyone has problems, even the bravest heroes.

Three Short Poems
In a time, when men were the superheroes, born in an unconventional location, a young girl, unknown to the future she was destined to, was born with a uniqueness unfound in all people, a superpower of empathy and as she grew, the world knew she was imbued as a living embodiment of legends: Athena's wisdom, beauty that surpassed the goddess Aphrodite, conversational skills that made Hermes envious, and strength that Hercules could never attain. As she approached an age, when her parents would trust her to be guardian, her powers manifested. This incredible child was now a woman. With the ability to heal those in need: she could expunge poison that had afflicted a person, even their hearts, a God-given gift for those most sacred; her correspondences exponentially developed, able to connect in all languages, fueled by her empathetic nature, this allowed all who interacted with her to trust her for she radiates sincerity. Now, fully grown, this super-no- This Wonder Woman had retired her duties to save the world, not forsake it, but, to train Wonder Girl, her daughter, to unlock the latent abilities her mother had passed on to her. She still looks up at the Higher Power and realizes her duty to provide the world justice is not over but only beginning. Her holy spirit was not unacknowledged and was gifted a bulletproof bracelet, forged by the most skilled craftsman by direction of all that is wise and healing. Given to her to wear so that nothing could halt her as she continues her fate to provide the world a humanity that could only come from an intrinsically true dear heart.

A supine position upon my bed and a slow turning of my head I look out through my window and by chance LISTEN!! Hearing the howling and chilling desultory gusts of wind Noticing seemingly deceptive immutable muffled grey-white low hanging clouds enveloping everything in its heavenly path with coinciding feelings of being enclosed, a slight hint, the oncoming winter A sunless sky also matches the early November mood as virtually motionless elongated pearl-grey-clouds having distinct wind-kissed topsy-turvy-wavy-ruffled bottoms that travel and permeate onward across the heavens These eerie vapors s t r e t c h from north to south east to west casting Buddism's grey colored shadows upon the earth below while not permitting any sky blue to peek through A distant howl and barking of a dog, my inner volcano snuffed out, the tranquilization of Hercules... Time seemingly stops altogether and hangs... ... heated feelings dissipate    into      cool nothingness...

November Mood
The one I love's no Achilles No massive strength or bravery, No leader of the cavalry, yet he leaves me searching, endlessly for a  single drop of nepenthe to cure my heart of this disease called love. I am no Aphrodite. But still I hope that he can see The good I know's inside of me. And then maybe he and I can be A flawed Megara and Hercules And somehow thrive, terminally, in love.

i. "Why did the number of parking tickets spike when Persephone was carried off to the underworld? Demeter wasn't working." She liked greek mythology puns. It was a good thing I was creative. ii. Truth or Dare, I asked her what was the best decision she's ever made. she answered with, "In 7th grade I named my puppy Achilles, so when I saw him I could say, 'Achilles, heel!'" iii. It took me two weeks to realise that when we held hands, I wasn't really holding her hand, but a chainsaw, ready to slash through anything that stood in our way like Hercules chopping off the Hydra's head. I was immortal. iv. August eleventh; 9 PM we watched for the meteor shower. I connected the freckles splayed upon her knee, told her they looked like the constellation of Cassiopeia. "Be Sirius" she jested. v. She had a bad habit of smoking at the beach and I Wondered if she knew that with every single flick of ash into the water, Poseidon was cursing her to the River Styx. vi. Headaches visited her often, I joked that maybe she was getting ready to birth a Goddess from her cranium. She did not find it clever. vii. You could say we became like Aphrodite and Hephaestus. I, longing for her. She, lusting after another. A synonym for her headaches would be me. viii. Apparently if you hack off a Hydra head, two would grow to replace it. Knowing this sooner probably would have saved me from numerous amounts of Kleenex and chocolate. ix. She left me a note on the dresser, "Fun fact: Medusa's favourite cheese was Gorgon-zola. PS - you remind me of Medusa, please remember to brush your hair." She reminds of Medusa as well, I do not doubt that if we meet again, her eyes would still turn me into stone.

I am marriage. Not just a goddess, I'm their queen. I am marriage: the one whom women seek. I am married. I should be loved; but my husband is faithless. I am Hera, and many taste my wrath. I take seriously my vows, and suffer not fools in my path. I am Hera, and I sent Hercules abroad. I helped Jason in his task, and by men am I awed. I am Hera, and I will not be played the fool.

Hera
Sometimes I wonder how I managed to hide all this pain within my heart. That had screamed and banged at the door of my heart, begging for freedom. Sometimes I wonder how I was able to hide this sorrow. That had clawed and scratched the wall of my heart ever since. Sometimes I wonder, how I could afford to carve a smile on this soulless face. That needs a thousand men’s effort to make it happen.

Hercules.
Who is it that does not know of Hercules? Tragic hero written in the stars and of the stars to tangle his string with that of Megara's. He watched the sunset with twisted arm and muscled thigh alone, his bride in the Underworld. he thought he'd be strong enough to rescue her maybe not- maybe the grasp of the ghosts was too great- the cycle and spiral down, down, down into the chasm, leaving Hercules alone, once more. he couldn't save her, not for all the trials in the world, even with a divine parent who guides his hand, He can't weave the strings in Hercule's favor, he watches the sunset alone now; the moral of the story: everything we love will die- we must learn to never make our home in others, for we will be homesick forever.

the hundred year old stairs wakes up from its dreamless slumber to find the world has spun for an infinity too long it once roamed and ruled the household of Chathanathodi making way to the rooms upstairs that conspired a thousand whispered secrets simultaneously sprawling its termite-infested legs to make way downstairs that injected an aura of omnipotence its laddery body was now a little chipped and its creaky joints, a little shaky but it didn't matter as it was still conspicuous and strong like Hercules leading unsuspecting mortals upstairs and downstairs to its universe of Gods Shalini Nayar © 2001

Upstairs Downstairs (ode to my ancestral home in Kerala, India)
Eyes on Ancient times in going back and intriguing the mind Hercules pillar being his strength Challenging all odds A man being his own mode Hercules strength in conquering evil Deceit of destruction confined to the Devil The Greek Gods that sit above They have spiritual divined powers thereof The Gladiators have come to attack But the Greek Gods have Hercules back The pillars of evil Kingdoms have steadily come down The rattle of the chains and the demons that remain Hercules the conquer with the strength of solid bound A man of force with the lean sound Hercules stands on a throne with lightening bolts on both sides The sun casts a shadow with the man of victory It’s Hercules labours of sustaining history The mystery of challenges of an unknown tomorrow The enemy being defeated in sorrow Hercules legacy with having moral of morrow and eyes keen like a sparrow.

HERCULES IN VERSE
Freedom is premium priced, At the casino of the world nations throw the dice, The tables are rigged by the fat rats and mice, Girls in curvaceous miniskirts on poles entice, ***** laced drinks and cancer sticks merrily fleece, Fizzy burgers are served filled with crucified cheese, Layers of salt and blood and veins congealing with grease Are the fillings inside the consumed meat, Come to the sale of the century and let your life be diseased, Take whatever you want and still you will never be pleased, Remember, one day all will be held to account, so all evil immediately cease, Do not make the mistake to ********** the legend of glorious Hercules Or pollute and sell the message of almighty God so cheaply. ©Rangzeb Hussain

Ζεύς and Ἀμφιτρίτη
This is too far, I know I’ve gone too far. As if the light of day were enough to wake my dormant wit,                But I know it’s not. My children lay dead. My wife lies cold and still. How long I sit in silence    I can’t know. My arms are lifeless weights along my sides, My hands are crusted With my family’s blood. I cannot know the horrors of last night, Echoes of screams                    And a rage not my own Are all that I can manage to produce. At last I gather their once warm bodies and lay them down beneath the high noon sun. Our house is now a broken shell,     Much like me. The door hangs from a single copper hinge A parody of    my fragile mind. No windows remain, only empty holes Beneath a partially        collapsed thatch roof. I fall to my knees and begin to dig, Every handful of dirt Is agony To my shattered hands, I welcome the pain. I dig the hole wide and deep to fit them. At last, my greatest fear has come. The grief arrives, and bears down upon my chest. I lower my children first into the ground. And kiss their brows,        holding each, one last time. My tears raining down on their broken bodies. I gather my wife     And softly place her Alongside our children. I kiss her lips And whisper all my thoughts Into her beautiful deaf ears.  I moan And heave, tasting        salt and earth and blood. “Bring me death if you have any mercy!” I shout to the clouds                  and blue above. I wait for death but there is no reply. Gods do not answer                                  pleas of the insane I ask for their forgiveness one last time And heap the earth        Onto my happiness. I walk away towards nowhere, anywhere But this place where My murdered family lies.

I launched her with my small remaining band and, putting out to sea, we set the main on that lone ship and said farewell to land. Far to starboard rose the coast of Spain, astern was Sardi, Islas at our bow, and soon we saw Morocco port abeam. Though I and comrades now were old and slow, we hauled till nightfall for the narrow sound where Hercules had shown what not to do, by setting marks for men to stay behind. At dawn the starboard lookout made Seville, and at the straits stood Ceuta t'other hand. 'Brothers,' I shouted, 'who have had the will to come through danger, and have reached the west! our time awake is brief from now until the senses die, and so I say we test the sun's own motion and do not forego the worlds beyond, unknown and peopleless. Think of the roots from which you sprang, and show that you are human: not unconscious brutes but made to follow virtue and to know.'

The Mighty HERCULES
A birth that was meant too be It was strength surrounding the solid key Our story involves Zeus He was a God who sat High His eyes were on the Earth below being living creatures such as I Yet very powerful, mysterious and magical Hercules was Zeus Son A man having strength that will conquer the odds of many The mythical uncanny But Hercules has many tasks to perform Before anyone can be considered a champion, there are feats being the norm The test of one’s strength and withstanding endless struggles Well some of the citizens of Elis had doubts that Hercules even existed and felt it was on a legend story But far more than lightening bolts being the glory Hercules proved over and over, he was more than muscles and brawn, but had a heart of gold that would always last Hercules once lifted a statue that a mire mortal could never do weighing a ton He was his own man among Hercules illustrated he didn’t have a heavy heart, but strength in aiding the weak in lifting the burdens Yet Hercules would be faced with many challenges beyond measure One task would be defeating the Hydra, a two headed Monster How does one being so small and having strength, but the challenge against something so large? It will take tack, skill and a precision plan in order to defeat the Hydra into victory So Hercules picked up a club and anything else that was available to think of At first, it looked like Hercules was wearing down the Hydra, but the Hydra kept getting its second wind It wasn’t until then Hercules then applied intense strength on the Hydra, and the Monster finally crumbled down to the ground There wasn’t any longer of the Hydra’s sound Later it became task after task But Hercules continued to reign supreme Hercules became a champion, and his own king with the deliverer of strength and the defender of the weak.

Tra-la-la-la-la-la-laire—nil nisi divinum stabile est; caetera fumus—the gondola stopped, the old palace was there, how charming its grey and pink— goats and monkeys, with such hair too!—so the countess passed on until she came through the little park, where Niobe presented her with a cabinet, and so departed. Burbank crossed a little bridge Descending at a small hotel; Princess Volupine arrived, They were together, and he fell. Defunctive music under sea Passed seaward with the passing bell Slowly: the God Hercules Had left him, that had loved him well. The horses, under the axletree Beat up the dawn from Istria With even feet. Her shuttered barge Burned on the water all the day. But this or such was Bleistein’s way: A saggy bending of the knees And elbows, with the palms turned out, Chicago Semite Viennese. A lustreless protrusive eye Stares from the protozoic slime At a perspective of Canaletto. The smoky candle end of time Declines. On the Rialto once. The rats are underneath the piles. The jew is underneath the lot. Money in furs. The boatman smiles, Princess Volupine extends A meagre, blue-nailed, phthisic hand To climb the waterstair. Lights, lights, She entertains Sir Ferdinand Klein. Who clipped the lion’s wings And flea’d his **** and pared his claws? Thought Burbank, meditating on Time’s ruins, and the seven laws.
