There are days when you become a shell of yourself, as your pupils remain fragments detached from reality. I watch you as you wind yourself back in front of my eyes. Ebbing and flowing, freezing and releasing; trying to make sense of the confusion and panic that riles in your mind.

Though you feel, your stars are growing cold and feel like an ethereal that has collapsed, your smile is still the brightest star in the furthest galaxy. It is made of combustion of crimson blue yonder and candy hues.

Though your palms are dreams wrinkled dry, and your memories are falling like baby tooth, as the color of your speech is bleached and you frantically scavenge for memories to ground and make sense - I’ll be there to hold your scattered mind with patience and love you the days you won’t remember me as your own

the sky is green and i'm cold
telephone wires string above me
and fold into sheet music,
birds sit like quarter notes and treble clefs.

my throat is burning
from the taste of your name
i thought my acid reflex had been gone
since i was eleven.

i cleared my hard drive today
four point two gigabytes
filled with the memory of you
are gone.

Out across the high terrain through avenues of sky
Flashing by clear rivers swum perhaps, by you and I.
Crossing cloistered cities clogged by tepid rotten air
Whilst  crucified by temperamental knotting of the hair.
Howling at disparity in scowling at the way
We all reacted differently to what they had to say.
Globalising gigabytes of hurt and hate and spite
Despite diverse distention when day obscured to night,
Black and white and brindle mixing hot beneath a moon
Confusing you who rationalise disharmony’s cold tune….
Pause to catch the nuance lost twixt shades of grey and green
Then riot for the kewpie doll to wear the crass obscene.
Raging fields of fire in a world of spleen awash
Antagonised at variance in chosing knife or cosh,
Antagonised disastrously across this sphere of man
Leaving sad distraught, discerning weeping blood into the sand.

there are 2 gigabytes on my phone of voicemails and 99% are from you and i wonder if our inboxes mirror each other or if you deleted the ones i used to send you
i thought i would have a lifetime of "goodnight and i love you"s
now all i am left with is a slow phone and the inability to call anyone

Sitting here trying to yank out a poem
Uninspired, not in the zone
Seems I've written it all before
Once you write a good piece, it's hard to write more
I used to scribble just for myself
Now sometimes I feel, it's for someone else
It hurts to work on a poem and then get 20 views
Out of that, probably 2 likes or few
I won't allow myself to write for thumbs up and hearts
I can't blur where the real world ends and gigabytes start
Yeah I had to yank this out, and for now it's all I got
I'll lie and say I don't care if you like it or not

My life began and ended
then began again.

Old relatives and friends
came and went

like images scrolling
on a computer screen.

It’s green glow spills onto my skin
and into this dark room

where time stands still
and clothes pile in the corner,

while outside perennials bend
and open their petals

towards the sun
to swallow its gaze,

then bow back down
in respect for the ghost moon

who sends spirits that fold lines
into the faces of those in sleep.

They play with our dreams
like wooden marionettes

and smooth the edges of memories
just as bone dulls a steel blade.



I’m sure they have visited us,
whispered some secret out our mouths.


As I sit here, I try to place us
somewhere between the cycle

of day and night, between
pixelated moments encoded

in gigabytes on my hard drive.
I place a number on a virtual file

to hide it from prying hands
that come like a mist in the night.

Safe between the ones and zeros
and electric highways of a computer chip,

not so different from those in my brain
where nerves endings could zap

me back to a time when I knew
the dip and curve of your collar bone,

the taste of menthol on your breath,
those late nights when we first met

and fell asleep to the sound of the dogs barking
as the neighbor’s children left for school.

There I was trying to put some of this stuff on an SD card I bought
At radio shack .  I had 32 Gigs available.
I plugged it in my ear.
Heard a click a buzz
Then whirring.
My head felt lighter
Seemed my programs run
Quicker my hands no longer
Tapped while my eyes waited. I felt more adept agile more
Like my hard drive spun freer.
After the download of my selected prefrontal cortex
Onto that little non-volatile
Chip the system rebooted.
A message from Microsoft
Appeared saying:
"Updating operating system, do not turn off Karl"
Just then
Thunder roared every animal in the house huddled up to me
And the power went off.
I searched everywhere
In the closets
Under sinks in boxes I hadn't seen since I moved a year ago,
I couldn't find the boot discs
For my windows 10 human
Operating system creators edition. I was condemned
To a blue screen
Forever.
