Better a small spark of flame
From hot coals and ash
Than a great bolt of light
That goes out with a flash

Resurrecting Passion
by Michael R. Burch

Last night, while dawn was far away
and rain streaked gray, tumescent skies,
as thunder boomed and lightning railed,
I conjured words, where passion failed ...

But, oh, that you were mine tonight,
sprawled in this bed, held in these arms,
your ******* pale baubles in my hands,
our bodies bent to old demands ...

Such passions we might resurrect,
if only time and distance waned
and brought us back together; now
I pray that this might be, somehow.

But time has left us twisted, torn,
and we are more apart than miles.
How have you come to be so far—
as distant as an unseen star?

So that, while dawn is far away,
my thoughts might not return to you,
I feed your portrait to the flames,
but as they feast, I burn for you.

unbound cliffs
resurgence
i see spindles
of thunder float
behind studded
eyelids

the day is only
young if i
ask it to; my spine is
cracked like an
unloved book, but
the writing has faded

into bloated gums
swelling with
indignation
swear on your god
knife to paper
ink to straw

touch the edge
of the cloud for another
story—lightning
strikes twelve
under turbid gazes,
placid

Did you come from the tip of lightning
As it struck the earth
****** into an uncertain world
A cruel and forceful birth

Or did you ride in on a gust of wind
Hopping off at the first place
You heard the ocean's song
And felt the sun’s embrace

Because you’re like the eye of the storm
Destructive, yet gentle
I’ve never seen two opposites
Act so complemental

You always wear a smile on your face
But keep mischief tucked in your heart
And I’m too curious to stay away
But I would if I was smart

When a quiet woman decides
That she has a thought to share
The whole world stops to listen
For this moment is quite rare

Even the mountains bend down
To hear this rare voice speak
Because If you understand the words
You will hear she is anything but meek

The longer her voice is not heard
The more time her thoughts have to form
Making the words that pour out of her mouth
Like thunder in a storm

And if you did not see the lightning
That has long been lighting up her sky
Her words will leave you shocked
With your mouth open and tongue dry

Is it impossible to love someone like me?
I am a storm and i am the sea.
I am chaos and i am calm.
I am too much and i am not enough.
I am a pile of broken pieces but i will help put yours together again.
I am a hurricane and i am the lighting.
I will make my mark on your life.
Is it so impossible to love someone like me?
I am a storm and I am a Sea.
I am chaos and I am calm.
I am a hurricane and I am lighting.
I am made of only broken pieces.
But I will love you so deeply,
