Take me to the coast

Take me far away from the lights and the cities.

Take me where the sand meets the water,
where the tide sleeps.

Take me far into the surf until I can't feel my feet,
and drown in the darkness.

Because unlike the rest of us, the ocean is yet to be discovered

And that's why its the only place we can feel truly free
It's strange because everyone remembers fondly their own road. Until one day they look back lost. In the dark alone and cold wondering how it got that way.
It seemed so sunny when they left.
I dream of the far off light in the night
coasting the distance of the hills
leading me on
believing there is hope
for without that dream there is no light to carry me home
Inspired by the most strong and beautiful person I know. You know who you are.

The waves of the ocean crash against the cliffside rocks
The trees and the dirt behind me in the background
The water wakes colliding
The strong winds tossing my body
The sea water spray floating in the air
I think I am in my special place

You are a ghost
that haunts my coast
lighting up every inch
leaving me with a flinch

There’s a place on 12th and Hawthorne
and one on 12th and Morrison
I want to take you there
and talk about how I care.
we just have to pay the bus fare

it’s just on the 70…
no where near my Kennedy
we’ll walk a couple blocks
it could be more like five
that’s ok we’ll be at high dive

I hope we do see mo.
she’ll be playing sad love ballads.
if we end up seeing shon
we’ll think he’s the Foo fighters lad
then there could be dan.
he’s still trying to be a man.

we’ll walk a few blocks more
there’s an attraction here
it’s called roadside, dear.
we can have a few beers.

we’ll sit on a lovely swing
and I’ll talk about this thing
I want to take you there.
however I’m just too scared.

Home of the navy, big and strong,

Think that's it? You are most wrong,

Home of Dickens, and Isambard Brunel,

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stayed a while as well,

Singers like Same Difference born so very close to home,

Gunwharf Quays, Action Stations and even a PlayZone,

An Aquarium, lots of shops, amusement parks and more,

Theatres, museums, the Isle of White; it's fun from shore to shore,

Portsmouth is a brilliant place, to live and work and play,

People who live or visit here shouldn't ever move away!
Written as entry to be Portsmouth's first Young Poet Laureate. I was short-listed.

I Ride on Highway One
Free
In this crowded state
I smell the sea

The prescription of my
loneliness
Driving in this bright
Blue landscape

A different side of nature
Away from home
Green leaves forever
Turn into
This vast blue sea

I listen to the notes
He gives us
The sounds of
This
Being Free
In Beauty
With Grace
