Void
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
She wants to be noticed and seen
he see's only from within himself
mascara tears run down her face
black streams that reflect her soul
he see's nothing but a flickering screen
she recoils into a lonely asylum
sanctuary for the lonely hearts
lesser things are left unspoken
echos of the voices inside her head
he see's everything but is blind
she see's nothing but the void.

Gone
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
Absent from all but the faintest of feelings
again I stare out of a window
its frame imprisons my soul
a fathomless stare into an obscure distance
as if I might somehow occupy that space
old photographs scattered on a table
yet I can no longer see your face
has it really been this long ?
minutes, days, weeks, months and now a year ?
the spirits took your warm embrace
so cold under the ground
know this my sweet sweet thing
the old roots now hold your hands
but you are forever embraced by my spirit
eternally dancing to our sad refrain
under the moonlight in the pouring rain.

Damaged goods
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
Fucktrums and tantrums,
it's all the same,
nerve endings twitching,
oscillating to the sound of your favourite medication
is the doctor in the house ?
we cannot tell
damaged goods sent to wrong addresses,
dancing with spectres in the shadows of dissolution
my messiah will come,
he will bring the black horses and they will take my soul.

Bad vibrations
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
Ever seen the darkness shake ?
like the serpentine spine of a blood red snake
vibrations sent to the core of your soul,
burning your mind like simmering coal,
clamber for the light in your claustrophobic space
the demons in the shadows know your face
the tears wont fall just stay in your eyes
whilst all around you everything dies
dance the macabre its the only way
whirling dervish no time to pray
the ancient rhythms too much to resist
it eats you away like a cancerous cyst.
An exploration into the dark world of depression,  something the writer is all too familiar with.

Forever young
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
As the world puts on its coat
we step into an old photograph
forever frozen in time,
waiting for the bell to chime
looking back as all turns to stone
futures unfold in the blink of an eye
opening gambits and unlit cigarettes
laying alone in the darkness
with only tears and regrets.

Paradox of pleasures
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
Thoughts touching on a tantric level,
pleasures unfold,
caught in a moonbeam,
ships that drift into a nonchalant harbour of desire,
casting long shadows over a rippling sea,
like a soul caught out of the body,
longing for freedom yet cannot be cast adrift,
circling these incumbent yearnings are the great birds of reason,
awaiting to taste the spoils of our misdemeanors,
yet within this paradox we float on ebony streams of cerebral bliss.

Thoughts
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
As harrowing as it might be
go hang your thoughts from a tree
the old gnarled bark remembers well
the days of light as the darkness fell
its twisted roots are buried deep
like comforting arms as we sleep
up above its branches sway
within its shadows we do pray
leaf's like tears fall to the ground
memories of the lost and found
we see it all through crimson skies
the tainted visions and all the lies
but if your soul seeks to be free
go hang it all from a tree.

True Colours
Haydn Swan Apr 2015
Oranges and greens
go paint your dreams
but I'll wear my shroud
under a dark black cloud
your equitus smiles
and falseness beguiles
ashen faced frowns
on the face of the clowns
the paint that you wear is a thin veneer
a veil of crimson over all that you fear
so sup the wine and let it flow
for what you shall reap is all that you sow

Blind gods
Haydn Swan Mar 2015
When you watch it bleed,
thoughts provoked by unspoken words,
careless whispers,
thrown into turmoil,
vision so blurred that you cannot see,
you lie to your soul but it already knows the truth,
blind gods and meaningless christs,
swim for the shore,
to horizons lights,
cling to the things that make it alright.

ate too much of the forbidden fruit,

hitch a ride and run for the hills
safety found in a bottle of pills

The pleated skirt
Haydn Swan Mar 2015
In her closet next to a shirt
hangs a concertina pleated skirt
she slips it on with grace and ease
the tiny pleats are there to please
like a million shimmering crystal shards
all tightly pressed like a pack of cards
as she moves they sway and dance
upon her legs they tickle and prance
the feeling makes her smile and shiver
which makes the pleats start to quiver
they skim and flatter her  hips and ***
like the majestic rays of a rising sun
such carnal delights found in a skirt
as she hangs it back next to the shirt.

Within this shell I shall hide
safe from all I see outside
the things that cause the soul to weep
by people who blindly follow like sheep
seek the path that no one see's

all the negative thoughts dispel
when I'm hidden within my shell.

On crimson tides we ebb and flow
no technicolor dreams to show

shadows revoke our light of day

This old town
Haydn Swan Mar 2015
City slickers born to tumble
will never make your mountain rumble,
take me to the parts that matter
in amongst the titter tatter
the coffee table ilks and dramas
cotton caftans and silk pyjamas
humming cars that cough and splutter
silver coins lost in the gutter
tabloid men in sharp pressed suits
trample down the fallen fruits
nothing sacred in this old town
except a peptic ulcer and a furrowed frown.
Not necessarily referring to a real town or city, more a reflection on social integration and life.

Disintegration
Haydn Swan Mar 2015
You give yourself to someone,
become entwined with their soul,
then have to watch as they slowly melt away,
like a thin layer of snow, in the winter sun,
in desperation we try to grasp the vapor
but it slips through our hands
and drifts to the sky
when relationships fall apart

When darkness falls
Haydn Swan Mar 2015
I see the darkness form,
cloaking everything from within its fold,
shapeless forms appearing within the void,
unlocked only by dancing moonbeams,
fleeting through an unveiled window,
I hear the blackness call,
luring me into its calm serenity,
soothing my spirit with its words,
draping me with its veil
within it's sanctuary,
we shall elevate our souls
and rise up from the dead.

Soul vapour
Haydn Swan Feb 2015
When you left it was hard to see through the vapour that was left by your soul,

just transient corridors paved with emptiness, echoes of your voice,

staring through windows as if they were mirrors reflecting the spirit within, foreboding, dark skies, rain as cold as my tears

these walls hide your face,  they come alive and ****** the memories away,  mocking in synergy, the fast approaching coldness of the new day

that transient moment between the comfort of night and the rising sun quickens the weeping spirit

we seek the subdivisions of love, whilst hiding in the darkness of despair,  yet when it comes and the countenance is lifted, the hand of the shadow takes away our light.

danced with the devil

Decention
Haydn Swan Feb 2015
In that moment,
descending into a drunken mess,
he tried to grasp at the moon but stumbled over his own soul,
what might have become or may have been,
ours is not to tell,
nor is there rhyme or reason,
for betwixt the threshold of darkness and a flickering candle,
the beacon to the lost is sometimes found,
inwardly looking at the reflection within,
not with standing the image without,
all is but a dream.

yet you are nowhere to be found

no quiet sanctuary for you to hide

Life through a tear
Haydn Swan Jan 2015
When we view our world through a tear,
it becomes distorted, blurred
and imprisoned within itself,
yet we have only to stretch forth a hand,

allowing us to glimpse beyond its boundaries,
the clear, pure waters that lay on the other side,
regaining our clarity of vision and releasing the soul,
if only for the briefest of moments.

Soul drifter
Haydn Swan Jan 2015
I'm drifting up towards the stars,
no one can follow me there anymore,
and although you cannot hear me,
I am saying in my mind that I am sorry,
for all those times I wanted to reach for your hand,
to hold it in mine and not say a word,
to protect you from the world,
to cuddle away your tears,
to listen to your every word,
to tell you how beautiful you were
those things you never knew,
how you stole my breath as I watched you smile,
how I held your things in my hands
how I never told you how I felt
how I sometimes cried over memories,
how I touched and smelt your clothes,
In such things are the foundations of a dream,
thinking of all those things that should have been,
for the briefest of moments you will remember me,
for I will be the warm breeze that you feel,
awaking in you a distant thought,
perhaps in a passing smile,
as I drift through your soul.

Those nights with you,

its mournful face taking your place,
under this blood red moon,
I guess love died too soon.

Santa's lament
Haydn Swan Jan 2015
So Christmas is over for another year,
with a melancholy sigh, Santa sheds a tear,
cold and alone in his winter house
no creature will stir, not even a mouse
seeks the warmth of a flickering flame
in lowly silence, it’s always the same,
the incumbent darkness behind his back
the sepia shape of his empty sack
his crimson hat now hangs from the door,
the coat of fur slung on the floor
a furrowed brow is all that is cast
as he sits and remembers Christmases past.

Gravity
Haydn Swan Dec 2014
Ever wonder my dear, why my tears fall down ?
it is because your words created gravity,
a field that pulls me down,
now I am forever bound by its laws,
in this creation I will wait,
the curtains draped like a shroud,
would that the faint glow of a sunlit morn be my release,
raising the corners of my mouth into a smile,
not this day, or the next, for everything is pulled down,
endlessly down by the gravity of your words.
My marriage is long since over and has been for years but the parting words that we shared still sometimes haunt me.

Blood Eagle
Haydn Swan Dec 2014
The great bird is conceived in a glistening eye
a mythical wonder waiting to be formed
coiled in patience under palest skin
waiting to unfurl its majestic wings
a cold steel blade unlocks its cage
blood must flow to bring it life
its freedom found in fragmented bone
the bars that block its sight are pulled back
hands reach into the great cavern
grasping the wings to set them free
at last in splendour and magnificent awe
the blood eagle is seen to take flight and soar
The blood eagle was a mythical and particularly gruesome form of execution by the ancient Vikings.  It involved carving the shape of an Eagle into the victims back, exposing the spine and ribs,  the ribs would then be severed from the spine and bent to each side and the executioner would then reach into the back and pull out the victims lungs and place them in such a way that they would resemble the furled wings of a great bird.
