Nov 2015 Dude with an Afro
Shay
He was the brightest star the world had ever seen,
but no star can burn bright forever, although that was unforeseen.
He was a man who brought joy to all those around him,
so that he never had to show them how his life was grim.
He made them laugh until their stomachs hurt,
even though inside he was full of despair, sadness and disconcert.
Like a clown, his smile was painted on,
only when he removed it did you see the wretchedness in his deep blue eyes; that’s when it dawned
that he was a slow dying flower,
fading petal by petal and losing power
until the day he’d been poisoned enough by this ghastly world,
and he died once and for all by his own hand – that’s when the truth of his life really unfurled.
Being as lonesome as I
Expels all thoughts of happiness
A darkness looms over me
Telling me to give up hope
Reality is cruel, but
I shall stand tall
Combatting the demons
Everywhere in sight
Acronym.
I didn’t call her baby.
I always called her maybe
Because nothing she said
Could ever be carved in stone.
We’d have a date on Sunday
She might show up on Monday
And no word of apology to share.
I learned about love all alone.

I learned a painful lesson
About what was important
I mattered which you asked
Because she really didn’t care.
I’d have tickets for a concert
And she’d go to the desert
And come back some days later
Never said a word about where.

She called herself free spirit
But I really couldn’t see it
All I could hear was stories
And she was the star of every one.
Things might have been better
If she had written it in a letter
To tell me sweet goodbyes
And then it would have been done.

But when she was around me
She managed to astound me
With whispered words of love
And telling me I was the only one.
But they were just at hand
Like the lies of a one-night stand.
I wish I hadn’t fallen for them.
I wouldn’t have been the lonely one.
Silent and invisible forces
pitch me as though a rudderless boat;
waves, relentless...insistent.
But to what end?
My resistance feeds its strength,
my arms and legs in discord.
I thrash, convinced
of a truth not yet visible
that love is at the rescue
while the loss of it
lurks always in the depths.

There's still an empty space
where there should be a heart
From all the words you used,
                 hoping to tear me apart
There's still a giant ****
in the back of my spine
From the knife you stabbed
        while looking in my eyes
There's still all these holes
                      in my chest
From the shotgun trigger pulling
              when you left
Every song ends
And some fade out too soon
Is that any reason
Not to sing another tune

Every poem ends
For better or for worse
Is that any reason
To not chance another verse

Every book ends,
When the final chapter is done
Is that any reason
Not to start another one

Every romance ends,
a hard truth to discover
But no reason my friend
To think there'll be no other

Every heavy heart breaks,
But they're not beyond repair
Sometimes all it takes
*Is to know there's love out there
The air surrounding me
Is weighing me down
The tears slowly falling
Are enough to make me drown
The voice of reason is silent
I can't seem to make a sound
My subconscious is violent
I'm not sure if I should be found
