Dar Al-Hekma University hosted its second fashion show on Sunday that featured the work of its second batch of fashion design undergraduates. The event, titled “Luminosity” was held under the auspices of Princess Reem **** Muhammad Al-Faisal. President of the university Dr. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi said: “Providing such events to our students before graduation exposes them to industry leaders of their prospective industries and gives them a head start in their careers. “Dar Al-Hekma University’s students stand out because of the combination of their high caliber and the opportunities the university provides for them.” Along with industry leaders, families of participating students attended. The event started with an opening speech by the department chair for the fashion design program Dina Kattan, who then introduced the sophomore and junior students’ work. Afterward, models wearing three-piece collection garments designed by senior students scheduled to graduate this year took the stage and were graded by four judges. Kattan said: “I am so proud of the work my students presented today; they worked really hard and they deserve a big hand. “Everyone was impressed with the level of creativity and attention to detail they demonstrated.” The judges were Batool Jamjoom, businesswoman in the fashion industry and manager and owner of Jamjoom Fashion House; Amra Alabdalilsharif, director of the innovation and visual merchandising department at Rubaiyyat; Dalal Al-Hasan, a fashion designer; and Aram Kabbani, Dar Al-Hekma alumna and fashion stylist. The grades students received during the fashion show will form part of their final grade. One of the students whose designs were featured at the show, Zahar Algain, said her collection was inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. “Studying fashion has altered my perspective. I view fashion, in the same way that I view life; it’s a matter of balance and proportions. “My interest in avant-garde fashion has led me to believe in using creativity to solve difficult situations. Algain’s collection was meant to blur the line between art and fashion. “It is inspired by Frida Kahlo but with a fictional twist. “The story behind my collection is a daydream, a magical love story, an artwork; it is splattered with Frida’s colorful soul and spirit.” Following this women only event, Dar Al-Hekma is organizing a one-day fashion design exhibition on Tuesday, which is open to all. The event starts from 7 p.m.Read more here:www.marieaustralia.com/formal-dresses-adelaide | www.marieaustralia.com/long-formal-dresses

The sign sun stains in the duct taped window advertising gainful employment in a part time pay by the hour washer deryer upstairs hair stylist crumbling 1960s salon. Chipped white washed paint draws in the custom customers offering permanates in every style and yesterday's hair of tomorrow "put it on today don't worry about it till tomorrow! The doors open to a bell and hairspray smell, something that might catch fire in a spark or cancer the lungs. The smock and name tag carry home the hairspray scent and ghost in store radio fades the ears from sleep. The bed reminds you of the pay check though so you push it all aside. Help wanted (wanted help)
Your lapped iPad is the perfect palimpsest, for an intimate exchange, with one of your stylist fingers your lover's words become ostrich heads whenever your husband sallies forth for another can.

Your lapped iPad is the perfect palimpsest
A firefighter afraid of heat, A quarterback afraid of a football, A speaker afraid to project, A musician afraid to perform, A lawyer afraid of court, A teacher afraid of chalk, An astronaut afraid of space, A hair stylist afraid of scissors, A bus driver afraid to drive, A doctor afraid of needles, A mother afraid of children, A lover afraid to love. We’re told we can be whatever we want to be, But you must see, That it is more important to do what you want than to try to overcome fears just to live up to expectations.

Do what you want
#1. What in the world          possessed you to do that!?@#$%^ My god . . . that was so stupid and careless! #2. Why? . . . I trusted my intuition. My heart believed, emotional logic compelled me. Fluid, spontaneous from the gut. #1. You’re crazy. I would never put myself at risk like that. #2. What risk? Getting harrassed by the mind police? They don't own me. #1. But they punished you. #2. No, just a little         desperate flaggelation. #2. But look at yourself all boxed up, stigmatized and branded. #1. You mean the labels? Those words they use to define me? #2. Yes, you’re a bad person. #1. No, I’m not. #2. Yes, you are. ... and they argued til dawn neither knowing nature does not declare winners but admires innovation.... like when Magellan sailed off no edges when Einstein confounded everyone by sailing in his head when the Wright Brothers lifted off when Tesla moved electrons when Christ embraced the centurions when Gautama just sat down when the librarian refused to take Catcher in the Rye off the shelf when Lenny Bruce swore on stage when Leary and Alpert left Harvard when Joan of Arc refused to recant when Gandhi and friends burned their English wool when Jung declared a spiritual psyche when the UFC earned a huge Neilsen so be your own guru take kava kava instead of Prozac barter with your hair stylist and when someone says you are wrong ask them why there are no dinosaurs in the Bible.

THE FIGHT
“Sir, this mole seems to be growing and spreading” Suhail stopped the scissor and comb, and said “It’s a bit grown than last month and even then, I noticed it spreading” Suhail is my hair stylist for the last about six years I have seen him growing from a Hair Analyst to Specialist to Senior Hair Specialist There is something more than the generous tip that connects us May be my willingness to abide by his experiments with my hair Or reciprocation of loyalty that bound us every month Surprised, I asked him, “What mole are you talking about?” “Don’t you know the black mole on the back side of your left ear” puzzled Suhail “You go and check with Madam, may be its my feeling only” “How would madam know about it Suhail, she doesn’t cut my hair!” “Arre Sir, you too!” Suhail had a vicious smile on his face “Come on tell me” I prodded him with the same viciousness We got into wayward pastime … “Arre, Sir, they get to see it… When you lay down on her lap in those afternoons And she combs your hair with her fingers And when you fall into that muddle of sleepiness and excitement Her eyes would lock it” “Arre, Sir, they get to see it… When she comes from the back as on paws of a cat Hugs and hold you tight with her hands And press her face on your shoulder Her eyes would lock it” “Arre, Sir, they get to see it… When those drenched lips move away from your lips And the craving teeth leave a hickey on that earlobe, Her eyes would lock it” Suhail finished the haircut and I left tipping him as usual The drive back home searched through the labyrinths of memories Of caressing fingers, tight hugs and hickeys Why didn’t she mention that mole, ever? “Honey, you never told about that Mole, Come on, let me see and let’s go to a Dermatologist quickly We can’t take these things lightly; the doctor may even suggest a biopsy Biopsy is fully covered in your mediclaim, isn’t it?”

All those years worn, you never did make it outta The Valley, all those feature film premieres, never did land a starring roll, or get any recognition, let alone an Oscar from The Academy, all those foggy eyed groggy times, you were probably high, all those checks you cashed, for your non refundable time, waking up one day, wondering where it all went, driving a car with a lease more expensive your apartment’s, still stuck in that same apartment, off Ventura Blvd., still a B-List actor ******* that A-List **** still getting haircuts from stylist, still racking up milage, got more clothes in your closet than dollars in the bank, & in the end after it’s all said & done & all the time is spent, & you’re finally spent, what’ll you have left to show for it all? All those years worn, spent suspended in mid air, baking in The Valley, all those times you attended, those feature film premieres, still no recognition, let alone an Oscar from The Academy.. ∆ LaLux ∆ from The Hollywood Hearts Trilogy Vol. 3: Dark Lights | Bright Shadows 9/9/19 I'm letting it all go, telling it like it is in Hollywood. O Hair, o Hair, wherefore art thou dear Hair? You stuck with me since I can remember How come you’re leaving? Why do you not care? Why haven’t you grown since last November? What did I do to make you love me less? I’ve always given you the best shampoos, Conditioners, hair cream- why are you distressed? I wish you could talk- for I have no clue. ‘Stress’- the doctor says that you can’t bear it It hurts you, it makes you sad, angry, weak How I miss your happy, active spirit You lit up my days when the world was bleak You were obedient, made me look good Introduced styles of your own I didn’t know Growing fast into a shiny mane you would Falling tantalisingly to my brow. You used to cooperate with the stylist So I tried new things, innovatively Fashionable styles I never could resist But you danced brightly, never plaintively! Alas! I can’t possibly understand Why you fall away to the cold hard ground As I brush you, in the shower, strand by strand The sight just shocks me as you make no sound. You don’t respond to new-fangled oils Bought online for you in desperate attempts To make you grow again, healthy, unspoiled But you stare up at me with harsh contempt! Do not desert me yet, my darling friend! I will change myself for you, make it right Ensuring your precious life doesn’t end I will put up a victorious, mighty fight. I’ll meditate to reduce stress on you I’ll stop shampoos to use homemade products I’ll take the required medicines, oils too Baby, for me, increase your good conduct! I’m so sorry for all that I did wrong All the things that then made you want to die I’ll take care of you now, you will be strong Work with me now, sweetheart, don’t ever cry!

James Corden’s close relationship with Burberry designer Christopher Bailey was celebrated at the 2016 Tony Awards. On Sunday night (12Jun16) the toast of Broadway were celebrated at the annual awards show. British star James was the evening’s host, winning the crowd over with his warm sense of humour and down to earth delivery. As well as a successful acting and presenting career, James can now also add style icon to his burgeoning resume. “We wanted to keep the wardrobe tight and focused with a definite beginning and an end,” stylist Michael Fisher told vogue.com. “We started with Burberry for the red carpet. James and Christopher Bailey have a long-standing relationship. I wanted a strong look that complemented the roses. The deep burgundy tux had matte black micro sequins on the lapel: very sophisticated and classic, with a technical update.” Like any good awards show host, 37-year-old James had numerous outfit changes. Two suits from Tom Ford featured; a black three-piece design which served as a tribute to Broadway and then a teal dot dinner jacket, which James chose to wear at the after party. A show-stopping Dolce & Gabbana look also featured, with the fashion house supplying a pair of “handmade, dark green croc shoes” to complement the green velvet and crystal jacket James wore to close the show. Another stand out moment came thanks to a red Gucci suit adorned with a bird and butterfly motif. “The Gucci suit was my favourite,” Michael smiled. “You can’t ignore the influence (Gucci designer) Alessandro Michele has on fashion right now. It reminded me of (musical) The Boy From Oz and in that way was very appropriate for the Tonys.”Read more at: www.marieaustralia.com/evening-dresses | http://www.marieaustralia.com/cocktail-dresses

My last Thursday class is over - my class-week is over. Looking back at the science building we’d just left, the hallway looked dark, like the throat of an animal, the people snaked out like a tongue, the archway seemed like a mouth - I shivered and looked away. Lisa laughed, and my senses returned to reality. The clouds on high, hung like fresh linens on a line being dried by the sun in its Egyptian-blue heaven. The air smelled rich, clean and ionized and ever the inventive stylist, it periodically rearranged my hair. Leaves rustled, sounding like a buzz of conversation, as they rushed from place to place, as if late to class. The breeze was working hard, in jerky flourishes, like the strokes of an indecisive artist. The afternoon seemed as bright and brash as a shout     as if it wanted, no demanded, our emotional attention and I gave it, smilingly, ready for the weekend.

Rebellion has many paths to tempt unwitting youth and none of them are new at all to tell the sorry truth Though every would-be anarchist would wish it left unsaid John Harrow makes the signposts with a top-hat on his head When picketing the fellowship a friend of mine declared "You have to know your enemy "To have him running scared!" dismantling the sacred text he'd bought the day before for every penny that he owned from Harrow's Bible store The scarlet headed lyricist sent shockwaves through the nation shattering taboos and knocking lumps from the foundation But Harrow wasn't shaken by this fiercely blazing star - he'd trained the stylist, named the songs and sold him his guitar A buzz is running through the streets as people take them back and occupy the land in global pacifist attack But wait - before you celebrate the fall of governments With factories in Vietnam John Harrow makes the tents Cos protest has its limits the establishment agrees we're free to go these tested routes like window-bumping bees You make your point, you go back home another day will pass and half-full or half-empty Mr. Harrow is the glass

Young and famous Yeah! We’re young and we are famous! We’ve got money and we can love and laugh. Yeah! We’re young and famous! Everyone knows us and they all want our autograph. Yeah! We’re young and we are famous! We are super stars who hang out in the famous bars. Yeah! We’re young and we are famous! We are on the T.V. and we drive fast cars. They all want us and they all want to be us. We have so many friends and an endless amount of love. Happy every day and no day is ever the same; You wish you could have my life but I would never throw this away. I guess it beats working for a living. All my life on screen and we are winning! Fame and fortune; surrounded by angels and stars. We used to see celebrities on the magazines, now that is what we are. We’re touring the States and every other place; We are globetrotters; we are young and we are famous! They all know my name And they all want my fame. My face is everywhere; I have a stylist for my hair And a fashion designer gives me clothes for free to wear. We will live forever! Under the spotlight. We party hard from morning, straight through to the end of the night. Yeah, we have made it and we’re getting paid to say things; We love our lives and this dream will never end… We are able to buy everything. Who needs a normal job? I’ve got the best one. I’m young and I am famous! I’m a movie star, a T.V. star, a rock ‘n’ roll star And I am having so much fun! (C)2016 Aa Harvey. All Rights Reserved.

You spot her on the dance floor Her milky skin reflects the glowing light of green lasers.  Her eyes are closed, as she absorbs the beat. The bass travels across the floor and up through her legs as she tilts her head up in ecstasy. She is in a world all her own. She drowns out the crowd, within her own frequency she moves her feet to the beat that the DJ creates. Her hips sway, creating vacuums of energy and drawing people closer to her essence. She sweats  away her feelings of insecurity, loneliness, and regret. The acid on her tongue does not corrode her skin, though it does seem to melt away her inhibitions.   Maybe her clothes, if she's in the mood She knows all the boys are watching her. Maybe if she's lucky, there's a man as well. Someone who can attune himself to her rhythm and grasp her complexity. There will be sweet synchronization as they create sin waves in between the sheets. This is her release Tomorrow She will be a hair stylist She will be a nurse She will be a lawyer But tonight? She's alive

My mother named me for no good reason. There was no fireman hero, no reknown global leader, nor an astronaut Stephen setting his foot on the moon. It wasn't even her stylist whom she honored as he kept her trusted secrets. The roulette wheel of monikers whirred uninterestedly past Michael David John Robert Mark Mitchell Glen (and thankfully) Carl and surrendered its last click on the formal of Steve with a "ph". It was haplessly indifferent in the way it came be. A last grasp of titles as they pushed her out the hospital doors. I have a friend whose name was never in question. He was a fifth, as in William V. The Ist was proud, so proud that he named the IInd. The IInd an heir, so he named the IIIrd. The IIIrd obliged, and so the IVth. The IVth weary from fighting the previous I's and hence, the V... as in William V, as in flavorless, pomposity faded, worn like a hand-me-down dress shirt through five generations bereft of shape and dignity and fit. He wished he had his own name - I did. And I found my name free to be designed to the only son my mom ever had - to be as grand or plain as I constructed it to be. This one-size-fits-me tag Stephen Dane Roberson is the Ist and only. A name that I love because it is filled with all the stuff I put in it; and that stuff is me... a me I wanted to be when I grew up :-)

The Name
Something with the rotten breath of ignorance stains our city, It was out there on a bright afternoon spitting and snarling, The beast stepped out into the glittering sunlight without fear, It crawled out from the coffin of a car towards Carrs Lane Church. This beast was a cheap and violent punk of Pakistani descent, What he did brought shame to the proud land of his ancestors, He came with fire blazing from eyes red with the **** of waste, His chin peppered with a designer beard which bristled and itched. The car door lay open behind him as he ****** the air and snorted, He stepped towards the youth handing out ‘The Stylist’ magazine, The only sound was the blade of words which sliced the atmosphere, He pointed, jabbed, spat, postured, and hissed at the delivery boy. No one offered any help, All looked away, In a place packed with people No one said a thing… Until… A schoolboy, from the lilting land of sun and calypso stepped out, He confronted the **** who threatened the delivery boy, The school kid stood calm and showed not an ounce of fear, The volcanic heat and rising anger of the bully suddenly deflated. Another door opened and another stinking blind beast stepped out, He slithered out to aid his cowardly and quaking friend, And that was when another schoolboy stepped in to offer help, This lad was descended from the fair fields of faraway Pakistan. The black boy, the brown boy, they stood together, warriors both, They stood their ground and protected the white delivery boy, This was brotherhood without colours, this was unity without borders, The bullies limped back into their car, clamped the doors, and sped off. Our kids, They know unity, It is we who build divisions, We are to blame for the rising tide of suspicion.

One covered in dirt, remembering the dusty trail it ran along, the poacher with the switchblade machete, the fingerprints still left from getting yanked no longer pursued after evasion. One covered in blush, the stylist that had wanted to cut, the look she didn't truly want, yet now was permanent dye onto the white that is now pink. One covered in black ink, the artist that showed the beauty how to paint. Such beautiful and stylized portraits were often created by force and greed, when the feline decided to go by her own creed. One covered by ribbons of all sorts, the types the kittycat wanted, pretty loops twirling into the air, when the nightly run would draw a silhouette of fleeing beauty. One covered by braided hearts done by a former mate, but left in the pattern to remember the love assumed, the nights spent gazing into the moon. One covered by scars that had no fur from the attempts of self mutilation tried when life seemed gone. Alone and craving for the jolt. Resistance was forced by a nurse on patrol. Death would not be an option anymore. One covered by text reading "Hope", For at least the one right being who would care and love, not constantly ***** the sensitive tails that would lead deep into her soul. One covered by a face that smiled and frowned, reflecting the emotional surges that happen. Both occur rapidly and were usually the greatest things for her, unbeknown in her mind. As depressed as she could be, she could still be happy. One covered by nothing, still something more to do, Life still young and ready. A continued path she would lead For the true one to be That would mark the position of her final tale.

Envisioning revisions Singing broken rhythms Carrying misgivings about miscarriages Disparaging pigeons White speckled calling cards hardly Invoke the Bard of North Korea I be your favorite poetic stylist Freely beguiling smiling at the Wailing Wall Rotary phone call shopping mall sneakers Tweekers in Arby’s bathroom break Picking faces like lottery scratchers Meekly begging change with blank expressions Did I mention we offer refreshments?

sounds for ears
i'm frequently asked about what historical period i'd like to re-enact - i've said my favourite 'the three musketeer period', all that intrigue - i've said the burning of rome with nero on the lyre - i might have added 19th century london - elephant man toddle oo (halfwit u)                                  le, loo... but as the days pass me by... i'm with Kantian humour (against Nietzsche - russian niet toward -zsche - unpronounceable - itchy zebra - pronouns against nouns, pronouns against posthumous fame with people becoming nouns) - me? i'd like to relive the French Revolution, after all, isn't America keeping it's laws on firearms, just in case? should the government becomes too Monty Python and the rabble decides to overthrow it having a chance to buy guns is welcome to change the crucifix for the guillotine - n'es pas? god bless america, after all the serial killers are taken away with the tide the populace will have a chance to overthrow the government - and i know that the great stylist who liked over-italicising didn't get Kant's humour... but indeed... that would be a revolution, and indeed only in america... all i have is construction industry's tools - muck and murk - bullet to the head would do just fine - he was after all bred from the stock of clergy... no surprises there to mind the opinion.

how Nietzsche italicised and forgot Kantian humour
