It was flaccid on my tongue.
Tie dye design fading,
Tightly pressed fibers dissipating,
A paper spitball soon to be dissolved.

Out of sight out of mind,
Until the wood grain on his dresser started to shift,
Move together then apart
Like a kaleidoscope in tones of brown

I stumbled out,
Thin socks met frozen wooden planks,
Then black jeans were introduced
As I took a seat criss-crossed: perched.

Snow fell from above
Like shooting stars abandoning the sky.
They landed on my lashes,
So I blinked a Big Bang and galaxies were born.

Frostbite should’ve crept into my fingertips,
But I was all tingles: pins and needles,
My nerve endings firing like new year’s sparklers at midnight.

Music filled my ears without a sound in the air.
Northern lights were waves emitted from trees
And the waves in the sky danced in time to my imaginary melody.

He snuck up behind me,
Seemed to appear beside me,
So I laid my head on his knees,
But his leg hair started to crawl,
Each strand a pink and green gradient
Like a **** carpet come to life,
A 1970’s nightmare

He looked down at me
His pupils like black holes: ******* me in
Shivers crawled up my spine:
A thousand spiders carrying snowflakes.

He wasn't talking but his face was moving: morphing,
It wasn't gloopy as you'd expect morphing to be,
But sharp, Jagged:
Stained glass mismatched.

Is it possible to be so caring that your own needs are pushed out of sight.? A battle against the devil throwing boulders every step of the way, finally he must have fallen to rest , giving me the lead to begin the journey promised. A young man imprisoned became a good friend to my son, his story grabbed me by the only strings I have no control of, indeed the strings to my heart. He lost his mother while locked up and the streets was the only roots he knew, but see, this young man was much like my son, a child four days older than my son's was born while he was in.  Never laying his eyes upon her, as his way was faint. My heart broke for him as I planned to see his dream through.
Once the devil layed to rest his release the very next day, God reached down his miracles and I was on my way.  With a borrowed car I drove for six hours to see him to his freedom, then we drove another five to take care of his business, the trip after that full of excitement and fear as in seven more hours this young man would holding his child in his arms.  As I watched with tears rolling a beautiful sight to see, as he looked down into the crib where she lay , his voice shaking , she looks just like me. His shock and excitement every emotion he could feel rained down on this young man as he realized not only was he a grown man but reality of being a dad sat  in. The next morning as I prepared to leave I opened my eyes to the whole purpose of my trip, baby Zoe was latched around the neck of her daddy , loving on  him, not wanting him out of her sight. I tried to fight back my tears but failed , on my drive back home of another seven hours, my body swollen and in pain, I couldn't help but wonder what would have become of him if I had chose to not care about someone I had never met, through the pain of all my travel I have peace in my heart today. I thank you sweet Jesus for all your blessings and the love in my heart but mostly for making a way.   The choice is all in his hands now I pray he sees the good in life and never forgets that if a stranger can make a sacrifice for someone she's never met, then he too can sacrifice for his baby girl and leave his past behind. To start his life over and one day tell his story to someone else that may be needing the same, about the woman he came to call ma and how she joined in with Jesus to make his dream cone true that day.

Sometimes you have no reason to stay,
and realize that's a perfect argument to go.
And that taking an entirely new way,
is the sore but single method to grow.

If you're washed-on abeyance's bight,
and you feel decision's heavy heft:
To choose the left where nothing's right,
or go to the right where nothing's left.

Remember it matters not where you proceed,
or which mountain you want to ascend.
It does not matter whether you succeed,
it is the journey that matters in the end.

Its 8 o'clock at night but the sun won't leave the sky
Within these valleys, you will find, abandoned houses, caves and mines
And yet in all this time,
Ever since I was a child,
I never realized getting lost
Could be worse than loss of life

The sunshine waxing, waning
Like shades of purple in a painting
I sought out the water to find my way back to the trail
Somewhere along the way, my mission was derailed
I tried and failed to find anything but this Hidden Hill

[This was before the time of GPS so I had no clue where I was
and I strayed further from the passage home than I ever had before...]

That was when I heard the drums
10 beats echoed all around
So loud, but where did they come from?
So loud, but who made the sound?

I set out to start climbing
The hill that sat behind me
Following my footsteps just to find a place I recognize
Once I got up High Enough to see for Miles and Miles
I realize that I had no idea where I even was

That was when I heard the drums
9 beats echoed all around
So loud, but where did they come from?
So loud, but what made the sound?

I should have seen the highway to the west and I should have seen the ranch to the east
I should have seen the river at the bottom of the valley or my house on the hill at least
I turned around in circles thinking maybe I was lost, and it wasn't 'til then I got scared
I couldn't see a ******* thing anymore
Because none of it was still there

I checked, it was almost 9
The sun hadn't budged from the Eastern sky
I used it's burning purple light as a guide
to find my way back to a place more civilized
I arrived at the base of a hill and started climbing
Back turned to the smokestack, billowing behind me
As though for my life, I raced against time to reach the top of the hill
And lose my mind

And that's when I heard the drums - 8!
Louder now, all around
that's when I heard the drums - 7!
Louder now, all around
That's when I heard the drums - 6!
Felt the hours melting down
That's when I heard the drums - 5!
Felt the hours melting down
That's when I heard the drums - 4!
Something's coming for me now
That's when I heard the drums - 3!
Something's coming for me now!
That's when I heard the drums - 2!
I had to find a way back out
That's when I heard the drums - one!
Or find a safe place Underground

I marked every tree with an X
I sharpened the end of a stick
I had no chance to get a grip
Before I ran for my life and tripped
Slipped, fell, hit the ground
And finally the Lights Went Out

I stood there in a clearing, surrounded by a forest
Thick with trees on all sides
Each and everyone had an X carved into them
And the sun hadn't moved in the Violet Sky

I found a cave to hide in, it hadn't rained or snowed in days
So I decided to make a fire, and try to forge some semblance of safety
But something is attacking me
Something that I cannot see
And when I heard that final beat
the Smoke was in the cave with me

Such violence I discovered beneath the Violet sky above me

There was no hope for survival, so here's a word to the wise:
The journey is ill advised, to roam alone at Twilight
When the moonrise is full of sunshine
It burns your weary eyes
& the magic you find will cost you your mind
In the depths of the viole(n)t sky
The violence lies in wait there for us
Underneath the Violet Sky

Such violence I discovered beneath the Violet sky above me
Such violence I discovered beneath the Violet sky above...
My band is writing really long songs now.

morning light spills upwards from the horizon,
salt lingers in thin air
tangerine skies watch over as we take the road
filled with anticipation
we turn the stereo on
sing to our favorite song—
there is no other way to escape
but this—
you, me, the road and the wind
brushing against our skin.

we pack our bags,
wrap our soap bars
spray our favorite perfume,
laughing as we peek inside each other’s purses
like Pandora’s box
wondering what else to try—
yellow sunglasses, ball caps
an oddly familiar feeling
like rummaging a newly-cleaned closet.

wind-blown and sun-kissed,
we take the path to paradise
in bikinis pastel and printed
hair braided,
glare of sunshine touching our faces
building memories from scratch—
nothing but the sand and the shore
and the splash of the waves
against the grainy surface.

your head rests on my shoulders
as we watch the daylight fading—
hues of pink, orange, purple, and blue
painted on the sky by an invisible hand
thinking there is no goodbye as beautiful as this.

I walk my life, a subway station
Where dirt consorts
The air around.
It pounds my nape,
It flames my mind
With sights and fates
And sounds.

Above, a tram goes up the alley
Tinged with canary hue.
Below, my wit:
What void, what valley:
It sank, in Tagus mused.

I take a seat, doors screech behind.
O, what wondrous whiffs?
Of metal beams
Attriting loudly
Against metal wheels?

To a halt it cuts my chain of thought,
Rivals my dream, they brawl.
'Tis from the gallery
Of broken hope
The beggar man crawls.

Intemperate horns his entry announce,
Dysphoric scenes aground.
He comes detuned
Near clears his throat,
Lethargic voice resounds:

I beat my cane
In wrongful rhythm,
'Cause wrongful
Was my life.
My voice hurts from
All this singing:
'Twas morphed into
A sigh.
I longed, I longed
For all my sinning
Was ought to be repaid.
Deserved so much,
God took my
Will, my sight,
My love, my
Name.

So tell me, vagrant,
What did He take?
-Said I-
Who has loved you?
What is your will,
What name did you go by?

I used to be a man of soul
Whose heart beat strong and dign,
I used to write
And then I died
On the 10th before July.

He took my coins for all my service
At wars:
At land
At sea
-The waves still have her,
Laying there still,
Waiting away from me!-
Said he-
I will my love,
My fire, passion
-My young Natercia!-
Most darling of all nymphaea!

So God is just after all,
Replacing sin with grief.
No need for me
To pay the man:
God has done the deed.

The deadbeat coins of his cup
Turmoil ever so slightly.
I leave my dream,
Doors shrill again:
'Tis time to end my journey.
