the blinds are bars
and the window is a rotating theatre
of people, life, the grind.

a twisted damsel in distress,
hopscotching around the puddles of my tears.

iii.
disconnect in the age of connectivity.
a broken wire frazzled and burned.
my hair is not long enough to escape.
how many likes did that picture get?

Perhaps they were right
about cameras
They really do steal our souls
and place them
in pretty little squares.
Hidden.

Maybe that's why
we're all
soulless now.

I wish I could think on my own
Not worry about what you’re doing
Concentrate on myself
Rather than what you’re retweeting
I watch your snap story
As you watch mine
I post the music we used to listen to
And I make sure you know I’m done
But clearly I’m not
All I have on my mind is you
Even though I know you don’t care
You never did
But I do
And now I’m alone
With all the memories and thoughts of you circling my head
Night after night
Hour after hour
I wish I could delete you from my head
The way I can delete you from my phone
But that won’t really do anything
Because our memories went much deeper than my screen
Just ended something I had w another person and now here I am

A landscape devoid of transparent eyeballs.
When did we all become photographers?
Freeze fleeting things,
filter clouds, endless beauty a simple effect.

Funny how enclosures feel obsolete—
the graves, the houses, three-sided mornings—
when I am a share, a like,
self-simulacrum selfie.
I stand on a fascinating algorithm,
Below that it’s reposts all the way down.

Share, share a like,
share a googol of happy lives
better than yours.

Are we saying yes
to starting off yet again,
absent this time?

I wove my own web and netted my prize,
I cold-pressed my words and refined my disguise.

I goggled at life and faced up to that book,
I tumbled and tweeted and baited my hook.

I blipped and I blogged, I bantered and blushed,
I followed and friended, I grovelled and gushed.

I doled out the instant, ten grams at a time,
To fuel my addiction for caffeine and rhyme.

I reshopped my pic, I swiped left, I swiped right,
I pinned and I posted deep into the night.

I gloated and gossiped, I chatted and cheered,
I logged in and logged out without favour or fear.

For is it not fun - this mad media storm?
Viewing and voting from dusk until dawn.

Yet love me or like me, let it never be said,
That despite how it seems, it’s gone to my head.

i've been off the grid for some time now
even deleted my Facebook account
and all that's left when you search for me
is my mugshot from 2003

i guess i'm just a criminal
nothing to show to the eyes of the world
but I don't care about
proving myself to you

i look around me and all i see
are people looking down at cellphone screens
how many more deaths' by selfie will there be?

i guess i'm just too cynical
nothing to show to the eyes of the world
but i don't care about proving myself to you

I post a picture,
I laugh, I smile,
I subconsciously lose myself for a while,
I look at the person,
I'm desperate to be,
Hiding behind that smile,
The smile for the screen,
I post a picture,
I cry, I sob,
Looking at the girl,
I was once reminded off,
For I am no longer,
That ******* the screen,
That girl is no longer what I'm destined to be.
My first poem I've published or shared with anyone.

Birdbox
                by Amoy

I live on your social acceptance of me
You keep my face buried, my eyes blind and my mind occupied
You draw me in, I loose myself, trying to find myself
I can't hear the birds chirp, I can't see the sunrise
You are always here but yet I'm afraid and I’m alone
The happiest people living their "best lives" surrounds me
Telling me to see, telling me I need to be apart of it
Don't you want to be like me?
Live feeds, Status updates
Selfies, likes
Love me, don't scroll without a comment
Live streams, fake news, fake friends
Program-me, I need your feeds
It's not just a movie, it's real life get a clue
