In math they tell us that there are infinite numbers already between 1 and 2. There’s 0.1 0.2 0.3 and so on. Don’t you get it? You and I will never collide if you’re number 1 and I’m 2, because in those gaps the numbers just continue to go in between us.

Can you read what you read?
I'm sure you can and there's no need to ask.
But it's weird.
Feeling through symbols.
Understanding symbols.
Writing symbols.
Combining symbols to make sense.
But some combinations are wrong.
Making sounds for symbols.
Saying the symbols correctly.
Different accents for symbols.
Drawing symbols, making them look pretty.
Fonts for symbols.

Imagine. We are ruled by systems of symbols.

I spent last night
Crunching numbers

10
Times you led me on

9
Nights we stayed up talking

8
Weeks since you decided I wasn’t worth it

7
Crushed up poems on the floor of my room

6
Outfits thrown aside to make sure I look my best

5
Days I spent trying to get over you

4
Friends that know what we did

3
3 a.m FaceTime calls

2
Coats of mascara

1
Big regret

A constantly
chugging train
plugging numbers
spitting answers
as exhaust
out
the chimney
Understandings
Clicking
fitting
snug
like the wheels
on the tracks
...
And all I can do
is my best
to
hold
on

One night
Two eyes with
Trickling tears
For countless regrets

Five fingers of a hand that
Seeks the proper words to write
Seven nights of trying but just
Ate those words back
I don't know what I'm doing
years back we were defined by the color of our skin

we thought it ended with all the martyrs who died for a better world

millions think the very earth we are destroying is utopia

everything filtered by a sole lens

only showing what they want us to see

when millions die simply to end up as a statistic

names?

faces?

no.

numbers.

I use numbers to grade
Your varying range
From strange to deranged
Until you're a number in my brain
And I become numb to all the pain
That's the total sum of your game

I am in heaven
When you turn it up to eleven
You give me a five
To keep me in line
You tell me I'm average
I tell you you're savage
You're no longer my hero
Once you hit zero
You fall off the scale
After you bail

There is no number
You fall under
After I hear your thunder
And I can't feel your heat
I grade you incomplete
Or maybe that's me
Thinking of what we could be

Each step one takes
Has two significants
Three days are not enough for a lunatic
He will exclaim, ‘add me four more minutes’
Five hours of work
Can make you empty six bottles of beer
Even on a Sunday, the 7th day of the week
Number eight is a favorite to most men
And nine is viewed as an unstable figure
Finally ten, it gets you back to one
If you switch the digits
