The Hiker reaches the foot of the mountain
And pulls out his map,
Laden with a golden path in lemniscates
Knowing where he is to go
For he had known this since he set foot out
His door.

Day by day he scales a piece of the mountain
Face, lacking not skill, but
Having patience, knowing the safe and
Prosperous journey is the
Patient one, the one whose tree of meaning
Is rooted in passion, the passion
To wait.

The Hiker fears not the delay of the summit
For the summit is already his,
Her hand his bride, for it is known in the
Hikers name who he is meant for:
The Summit, forever and for always.
I will have you, tomorrow
Or forever away, it is already known.

I want to be able to miss you until my heart aches. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to reassure myself that the walls I’ve built around myself have not affected my ability to love–especially loving someone that deserves the mountains and all the dandelions that have managed to not just grow, but dance, on the summits.

Supple peaks
Where the Earth swells,
Shapely curves straddling
Land, soft and rounded yet
Mighty and tall.
I’m breathless;
I want the mountains
To swallow me whole.

the coast, it is just as you promised.

         elusive--

the white stones shifting beneath my feet,
this wind. this rain,
the way the steely sky
trickles down to kiss the sea,
the indistinct rumors / hints / echoes of mountains
where the mist has slept with the trees.

                       vast, inconsolable:

the cliffs whisper to me
of their endless
journey to the horizon,
and captured in this fragrant
brushstroke of balsam and pine
I feel the damp northwest morning
soak into my skin,
and suddenly there is
an itching of feathers
and salt in my veins.

                                      {evergreen, wild}

                     for a second,
I bite into the marine chaos
of these dancing whitecaps,
and it is just as you promised.

untamable.

      pacific.
the drive up to whistler is absolutely breathtaking // falling hopelessly in love with the pacific northwest

You leave that dismal room
And walk
Past open doors
And broken clock

Down dingy corridors
You creep
While strangers
In strange rooms find sleep

You walk on carpet
Stained and fading
Designs all ruined
Yet not abating

Out where the housekeeper’s
Cart is parked
Her smile sunken
Her manner dark

She emerges from
Behind a stack
Of ***** blankets
Folded back

With broken teeth
And burdened eyes
Wrinkles worn
In plain disguise

Someone’s daughter
Whittled down
Her hair too thin
Along her crown

Yet harboring
A warmth untouched
Her shattered image
Says too much

Windows open
On a courtyard scene
Junkies nodding
In the sun serene

High altitude
Of Denver streets
Smell ***** smoke
And searing meats

In Civic Park
The men that stare
Sell rough-cut gems
Which slice the air

One calls you over
With his hand
More incantation
Than command

Says that he’s got
Just what you need
With eyes now begging
To be freed

You walk away
And in his strife
He calls to you
“I’ve lived my life!”

With eyes as dark
As afghan hash
He fades away
As you move past

In distant vistas
Where the Rockies lie
You hear that unknown
Ancient cry

You feel the motion
You must move on
The mountains are calling
The city is gone

Follow me
Wherever I go
Up mountains so high
Down valleys so low
Past rivers that wined
Along untold roads
Through forests so dark
that you can't see your nose
Beyond oceans and seas
On untrodden land
We will slog through snow
We will sink in sand
You will be amazed
by the things you will see
If you take my hand
And follow me

Mountains covered in fallen clouds;
evergreens passing in blurs.
Black tar roads dotted in white;
the weary chatter of haggard passengers.
Windshield wipers; swish, swoosh,
pushing the rain away.
Passing signs call out for our attention,
begging for us to stop and visit.
The hum of the engine,
the stuffy dry air;
as we drive in a state of beauty.
Watching a world pass through the tinted windows.
But we are just passing through,
enjoying the view along the way.

A beautiful skyline on the journey home

on the other side of the mountain
where the winds are whispering
how i dream to be surrounded
by the mist of mystery

on the other side of the mountain
the water flows so shimmering
how I dream to be un-counted
sitting in the glimmering

If there is one thing I learned from you,
it is how to read a map.
See, I've been lost for quite some time
Been trying to find my way through land mines
Dropped by men who uttered promises like they were prayers:
holy, sacred.
Been trapped in a maze that guaranteed no end,
like a white mouse finding his way towards his reward only to find out it's all just a test.
I've been doing this for so long that I can't even recall my tracks
when I wanted to turn back
Because when I look back
It's always too late, and I'm already in too deep in
the messes I've created for myself.
What I didn't know was that God created you...as if
he knew I would need your light to guide me
and your body to be the beacon that beckoned me
and as if God broke my heart on purpose before I met you
because you were meant to meet me after I
figured out how to fix myself.
No, you didn't fix me.
I wasn't the broken girl that needed mending
But I had a lot of questions
and you saw them in my eyes
But you didn't have answers right away.
No, we weren't love at first sight
or
fall in love over heels
and I wasn't a princess in the high tower
waiting to be called
what I'm saying is
We weren't a fairy tale
But sometimes, it feels like that to me.
I find it hard to believe how of all the paths I could've taken
My God pointed your way and said,
Hey, trust me, I know what I'm doing.
You taught me how to read a map,
To understand the direction
Towards where you and I are meant to go
Beyond all the mountains and seas we've been to
You taught me the coordinates towards
forgiveness
and patience
and maturity
and kindness
and above all,
love.
For Shao.
