The new american generation**

afraid to question their teachers
scared to stand out
not with different clothes but
with intellect and knowledge
the want to know more no longer exists
for it has been replaced by the want to fit in
histories inventors paved the way with sharing new ideas
we think getting called on to share ideas is torture
we complain saying the lords name in vain
they cannot see what God expects is us to try

Did I ever mean anything?
Anything at all?
Or was I just there
to keep the sheets warm?
How could I have let this happen?

Gotta try harder
Have to stop failing.
But it's hard,
You know?
Life allows room for too much mistake.
Mistakes make us stronger
Because we learn from them.
But also,
They can destroy us.
Make us question ourselves,
Our values.
How can we live to perfection?
It isn't possible.
But the thought that we can,
Disappoints us
When we mess up.
I disappoint myself everyday,
So I tell myself
I gotta try harder
Have to stop failing.

you,
unlike mom,
were always calm
and collected.
but you were so
oblivious,
you had no idea what she did
to me,
that monster you loved so much
was so unfair to me,
but you were too clueless to notice.
i can not blame you, dad,
she always put that mask around
you, so you couldn't figure it out,
even if you wanted to.

i cried for a month straight
when you passed away,
and mom was so calm
about it, i don't think
she ever loved you.

but i still love you, dad,
i love you in ways she never could,
i still love you, even though
your feet no longer walk
on this earth.

*and i am sorry, that i turned into
her,
so, so sorry,
i never wanted to
disappoint you,
i love you, daddy.
