He must put away his fake identity and become what others fear
To take away what criminals hold dear
The comfort of a mask to hide the anger and the pain
The memory of a night that will forever remain
A desperate criminal and a pointed gun
BANG! Down goes one
BANG! A second one
Blood shed tears leave a little boy stranded and alone
On his knees stunned, his parents gunned by the desperate one
Things took a wrong turn, now all the happiness is burned
Through the tears streaming down young Bruce Wayne’s face.
The young boy now a man won’t forget his promise
A life of pain is all he’s really known
He now feels the darkness is his only home
Criminals beware you will know his despair
He is the protection for a city covered with scars ones that only he can heal
When darkness falls means the Dark Knight Rises

Shut the hell up
Keep it to yourself
Sister, sister
Thought you could be my dear sister
Hear my heart beating
hands start to shake
Soul starts to bleed
Sister's mister
Why did you kiss her?
Now Changed her for the worse
Now I'm force to help her

the bat
is         a creature         so
adept  at flight. it will  come
before the night. flitting high
and dipping low, it doesn't seem
to know where it goes! tho it seems
dark              and scary               folk
\/                       there                       \/

no need to be wary!

bats are beneficial
they eat insects and
pollinate flowers

I see them in the evening
echolocate after gnats
as they dart and dive for micro-prey
our night sky is alive with bats.

They clear away mosquitoes
never seeming to alight
and make it safer here below
these tireless workers of the night

I am fearful for their future
as we use our toxic sprays
for as we spray mosquitoes
we poison those who call them prey

Still the acrobatics thrill me
in their nightly hunt for gnats
and I hope for many years to come
our nights will be alive with bats

(July/Aug?) 1999
I wrote this while living in Largo, Florida, where we had a lot more wildlife than is typical in a heavily populated urban setting - including LOTS of bats!

I have always loved watching them in the evening and early morning hours, so I was pleased when we moved to Tennessee to discover that we have even more bats here.  ;-)

I have read this poem in public on numerous occasions but this is the first time it appears in print.

Bats arrived
In the Ozark hills
Lived among
The people
Taking a human body
As the sun went down

Some got drunk
On homemade whiskey
Passing out
Getting trapped
By the bright morning sunrise
Turning to mere dust

I am soft and gentle
and bring a clarity
to the dark night.
I wear a loving darkness
like a comfortable cloak.
I am the vanishing vampire
puff puff you see me now i
am gone.
For I am the creature
of the night.

When your world caves in
your emotions turn to
darkness.
Just listen deeply and
you may hear me flutter
in the blackness.
For you are not alone
as your friend I am here.
A gentle creature comfortable
in the night.

I am the sometimes the forgotten
hidden in the corner in my cave
there i hang.
We live our lives upside down
sometimes living our teens
in our thirties.
As we slip into caves through
cracks often hiding in places.

We light the night with
sound, magic and our
emotional moon.
Soft and angelic we are
so innocent in nature.
In this topsy turvy land
we turn the world upside
down and find GOD also
lives underground.
So we never fear or
feel claustrophobic this
darkness is our home.

I never waste my time
looking to the future
to me it is all a blank.
And there i find my freedom
no burden or expectation.
I am the deep sleep that
has no dreams.
Perch with me in my cave
I will give you silent night
I am your greatest ally
in the darkness.
As I fly into blackness
with speed and purpose
There in the moonlight
I detach myself
spread my wings
find my freedom

Out of site I vanish
from the world
for only
those who look into caves
their darkness will ever
have a chance to find me.
Sometimes I fly high
breaking into the night
turn of my sound
and just disappear.
I relax sit back
into the my void
have a break
from myself.
Puff puff i am he vampire
who has just gone.

Remember when your world
caves in turns to darkness.
Do not panic just disappear
into blackness.
You will hear me flutter and
know I am near.
For with a little bat
becomes very clear.

Joseph D May 2015
One would observe the habits
Of the black cloud of bats
Once a day, at the same time
For as long as they have kissed life
Have moved as one out their cave
Tasting the open air easing lungs filled with cavern grime
Only in the midst of darkness
The stars oblivious to the sunshine

A stray speck
One would think part of the cloud that escapes daily
But wanders astray from parts unknown
He sings
You can clip my toenails
But you can't clip my wings

In what most would guess was confusion at a first glance
Was truly nothing of the sort
He enters the cave confidently
Continuing his song with determination, an angel with a task
My skin is my mask
He enters

Neither the cloud that was once a seasonal storm
Nor the speck
Was ever to be seen to leave
The stars now know what sunshine is
And you start to recognize
The truth took its form

OOO!
He is worried!
Again!

the Mr. Perfectionist.

It’s almost Carnival but
He hasn't yet got a mask

with specifics
outlining
his ballads
and jests
he
surly lists his bests
in two principle steps
of CAPS :

1)
* Feeds the Bats and
* Tempts the Charms

2)
* Cheap N Handy
* Quixotic but Scary
* Not too Trendy

and he cries

Yuck!
EW!
Husky!

What's worse than
a self-adoring pathetic bat
in my whereabouts!

I can't get the stink and shrill so I help him fast

'Yo what's the worry!'

-I say friendly -

'you need not hurry
cause I think you already are ready!'

-I continue enthusiastically-

'Here! Try this one
My top design
Custom fit chemistry
A truly  NO Risk Recipe
and of course
Specially designed for you! '

'for you for youuu
   to echolocate
such is an eye-gaze
for the half-blind
such is sound
a vibration that propagates
in ears and brains of pretty gulls
and of course
only  for youuu'

-  I sing loud a common bat ad just to stimulate
my client and continue- merrily explaining my serviceable recipe

for 2)

Wear your white shirt just
...as always

the one I know
you know?
the webbed one
weaving grace
and don't forget to
iron it well this time.

for 1)

Put on your true face!
I reckon then
and can guarantee
...as always
no one will ever recognize you .

In a flight he disappears glad and I hope he won't show up till next year
What can you do I say to myself and quote a encyclopedic fact about my client.
All things have a place, you don't really need to like them but these ones pollinate flowers and disperse fruit seeds and they are economically important as they consume insect pests reducing need for pesticides.

I say while I ventilate my head with an OM mantra and an incense stick
Bah what a stink what a stink...
haha

Anger, is the steaming red on her face
refusal creates in an instance;
jealousy is foaming green
profusion of colors in motion
takes this dance for them to upward
and downward turns,
or a sudden dissolution---
an intense ****** in unison.
Even in darkness he  can see the
spasmodic ebbing waves
sleep is the banana plantation
where night wears translucent green
"nobody would see us here"
she whispers in his ears,
as if they are thieving ***,eyeing
the yellow banana she likes, to play with

Purple is the psychedelic color
smeared on horizon when
dreams repeatedly fly down
like night bats and happen
the way mind designs
we don't want to leave the scene
of the dream even when we know well
that the show for us is now over
we just want to hang around
like the dog,  in the place
it  got a juicy bone.

Yellow is the banana song
that's heard as wave after wave,
by the blind bat squadron
that roams with raw aggression,
for raids above the plantations
Unripe bananas show green fingers
to say "NO! we aren't ripe"
like coy underage virgins.

Then, they ripen, go yellow
some even bright red, inviting
who is blue here is the sky
and those bats who got
the bananas still raw green

Night decents on the banana land
as the white umbrella of sun
is snatched by the dark maiden.
Black is the bat's wing extending
and folding like lust, umbrella and the like.

He finds her shivering fingers like a serpent,
on the banana trunk slithering down,
as he dreams bats, banana, blue sky
and she slithering over him.
Sensuality connects, colors, assorted things  and places that become symbols for experiences , ***, lust ...
