Lessons learned and losses spurned;
Burned are the sweet-nothings you often heard.
Mired in a conflict never-ending,
Stuck between loving and merely pretending.

She sits in her room
  all alone
shivering under her bed
in desperate attempt
     to stay hidden
from the monsters that scream in her head

All I ever wanted was for you to
love me
I blamed myself
and wondered why the hell I wasn't
enough
I now realize that it was never
my fault
You were just so incapable of loving anyone other than
yourself

I could never tell you
exactly what's going on inside my head,
so I'll write instead.
Drown my thoughts in paper & lead.
Keep my hands alive,
and my expression dead.

Bit by bit
You can build yourself back up
Never lose hope
Reach for the top
Continue on each day
You may struggle at times
Go through that hazardous fire
And keep your eyes on the prize

tomorrow is not promised
it is a gift you might not get

tomorrow is not guaranteed
that's something you should never forget

cherish today as if it is your last
make peace with all the sins of your past

speak the words you said you never would
stand in a place where you have never stood

see the world with brand new eyes
remember your lows but bask in your highs

Heard they're getting ready to close
Down the high road
As no one they know
Uses it anymore

In desperate need  
Of major repair
Because no one out there
Really much cares

A once solid road
Well traveled on
The shoulders now soft
The pavement worn down

And with the low road
So easy to take
Just don't read the signs
That point out the mistakes

Heard the high road
Is soon to be closed
