she wrote a sonnet but she got it wrong
proper syllable count her lines ne'er had
twas a most shocking sight really quite bad
her shabby work had a distinct kind of pong
she put it out there for all to peruse
the skilled sonnet writers had a look
her display they rated as verily crook
the format of it did of her confuse
she had not a spruce quill like the bard Bill
her specimen would have disgusted him
particular was he about his form
she produced a sonnet which didn't thrill
its appearance was so exceedingly grim
her syllable patterns were not uniform
a malignant cancer spreads
in prime agricultural land
the Santos Company
gas wells ever expand

the waterways and aquifers
sullied with material not healthy
the corporate entity
aspiring to be more wealthy

campaigners outside fences
at drilling locations
wanting to stop the company's
sick infiltration

the fight to preserve the family farm
has been unheeded
company profitability
must be well seeded

a state government not listening
to scientist's info
seemingly it is more interested
in the gas field's revenue flow

as time goes by the waterways
and land will become sicker
all in the name of the Santos brands
noxious sticker
give a thought to the nurses
they're on duty twenty four seven
they tend and care for the sick
all over the world
To-day, is International Nurses Day.
it is officially
the day to celebrate
our horses birthdays
so please gift wrap
your horse
a tasty bail of oaten hay
the blight which has enveloped America
for over five and a half years
shall be impeached for his copious violations
that will be met with an almighty lot of cheers

the Senators and the Congressmen
have procrastinated on the action they'll take
but they've realized that it is past due time
to remove Obama's unwanted quake

at the earliest possible convenience
the Prez will be shown the exit route
in hearings on his many misdemeanors
they'll send him down as a parachute

Obama has abused his Presidential powers
much to the American people's disgust
they've had enough of his governance
as it has only bought much mistrust

a good clean out is about to start happening
thence Washington will be at its very best
no more will it be held at Obama's
overbearing and egocentric behest
on the day
we obviate all wars
our eyes shall see
a new dawn
as brothers and sisters
of the earth
we'll bear witness
to tranquility
history's pages
wrought in killing stains
conflicts repeated
too many times
our planet's inhabitants
all so blind
they see not
the dove of peace
man has forgotten
the tenant
of loving
thy neighbor
as an awful consequence
the gun rules with might
unto the drum
of nonviolence
man has not yet
begun to march
lay down
the sword of war
as it gravely
shadows all nations
on the horizon
a light doth flicker
beseeching man
to live cordially
dark clouds ever
they're looming
which path
shall man walk upon
the high road
leads to quiet
arms dispensed with
and deposed
pursuing the trail
of rancor
brings but
discordant clashes
everywhere around the world
the blue of my skirt
touches shores
container ships
sail o'er me in the night
stars twinkling on their bows
whales and fishes
live in my fathom's depths
kelp's and beautiful corals
make homes
in the salt of my brine
yet I'm assailed
by the unthinking
slicks from oil spills
choking my environs
plastic bags and human effluent galore
deposited in my turquoise colored prettiness
the oceans on our planet
need our care
so please treat them
as a precious jewel
8/06/2014 is World Oceans Day.
on the tree's denuded boughs
a flight of parrots did land
to take rest before flying
o'er the riverbed
of an innate perception
the squawking hawk's morning cry
he felt rain within his veins
arriving by night
of a poetic lyric
he did convey
as he sang the song
in a perennial way

"dance me to the end of love"
long our hearts shall beat together
"dance me to the end of love"
we'll stay ever close in tether

Leonard Cohen wrote
an undying
refrain
which you can listen to
again and
again
the words will echo
in a romantic
vein
of the dance his voice
did lastingly
explain

the melody of eternal
love
speaking so lovingly
of forever
love
BLT's song title challenge. Leonard Cohen's, "Dance Me To The End of Love" Acknowledgements, to Leonard Cohen for the use of his words.

Leonard Cohen
Dance Me To The End Of Love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
there's a specific
time frame
in which karma's
direction
will turn
it just awaits
the hour
to exercise
a differing
burn

for karma has a variable
clock round
it never remains
static of ground

movement within its piece
does frequently change
altering the rote's
spinning range

one minute things are
going nicely your way
but an adjusting hand
can transform
the mode of play
as I walked up the neighbors back stairs
there was a distinct smell of Mary Jane on the air
I knocked on the door and waited a while
then the neighbor's son opened the door wearing a ****** smile

in his hand
he had a bag of twisties
he told me
he had the munchies

I
was
nearly
overcome
by
Mary Jane
drifting
out
of
the
window
pane

then he started to laugh uncontrollably
and I looked around to see what was so funny
I thought he might have been having a private joke
after all he'd been tugging on a ****** smoke

I told him to tell his mother
to drop in at my place
as I'd like to talk to her
about her son being off his face
the last time I went to church
I sang the hymns off key
and the rest of the congregation
leered at me

they were unaware
of my throat being sore
and that was why I sang
with a hoarse roar

after the service
the vicar approached me
to say he wasn't too happy
with my singing off key

his insulting comment
was not well received
so I promptly stormed off
feeling most peeved
why do some writers
use more than one name
are they a party to the
who is who game
they belong in the alias
hall of shame

at a particular location
some writers have made
it their main vocation
to turn up with a ten
fold nomination

we know who they are
and none of them
will receive a gold star
they've proven to be
well below one par

some writers like
wearing sixty odd hats
working out Jess from Tess
drives us all bats
how many head-coverings
can fit on these tats

the multiplier effect
we'll ever reject
you and I will store it in
the cupboard of neglect
it's of a most
off putting effect

and the children didn't live long
a gunman cut them down
the innocent
the trusting
all taken away
by a spray of bullets
on that abysmal day

they'd not grow to adulthood
no life span for them
the sadness
of parents and a community
did over the years
extend
never to be erased from the heart
their cherub faces

and the gun left a scar
a terrible reminded
of the children's life stories
which would never be told
of tearful air
the sky is on this very day
of tearful air
drops being shed in an unhappy fair
the saddest mood there to display
as if nature had turned gray
of tearful air
we'll hear messages
clarion
clear
on owning a well
functioning
ear

yet when short circuits
occur betwixt brain and
ear
the messages
aren't so
clear
oft the blade is unsheathed
and given its nasty lead
to jab the unprotected back

with no vision to the rear
and bleeding most severe
who could do such a deed

office hypocrites
are capable of it
so called friends
imbibe in it

to your face they'll play a charade
then with no scruples
they'll unsheathe the blade
oh come sing a song
a song for me
oh come sing a song
one with a sweet melody

sing your song of flowers
adorning the meadow's lea
sing of their pretty colors
so mirthfully

oh come sing a song
a song for me
oh come sing a song
one with a sweet melody

sing your song of rainbows
arching the skies in lovely canopies
sing of their joyous hues
in a tone so happy

oh come sing a song
a song for me
oh come sing a song
one with a sweet melody
O'er the South landscape a force did attack
Whipping winds thrashed furiously about
Buildings were smashed down by the great thwack
Angrily the tornado voiced its tout
People cowered neath protective cover
The skies were tinged in a grey green rage
Twas like a roaring train passing over
The ghastly scene was of utter carnage
Driving rains fell they added more insult
Oklahoma's South witnessed devastation
Nature had reeked an awful assault
A twister caused so much destruction
The tornado was of powerfulness
All in its path under extreme duress
ever the old maid
that is me
no handsome fellow
for company
I've lost my looks
such as they were
I was never
as good looking as Fleur
you see Fleur
had all the prerequisites
and on her
they did very neatly sit
she put them in front
of the fellow
who had me wrapped
and he promptly told me
I had nothing
that could be
applauded or clapped
he was the first and last
fellow I had any feelings for
but boy am I glad
that he and Fleur
are operating the local store
they give discounts
on anything
I wish to buy
and every Thursday afternoon
they supply me
with a free pumpkin pie
old men who are no longer
mentally or physically fit
take on roles that have an
arduous sort of identikit

on reaching a senior's age
they shouldn't be world leaders
who require handlers and the
omnipresent teleprompter readers

a president or prime minister
needs youthful robustness
so that they can well manage
government stress

more fresh faces must be
elected in
not the tired and weary
elderly kin

most persons will retire before
three score years and ten
so they can live out the rest of their days

Ollie said to his sweet Molly
you really send me off my trolley
she took her own life by way of a rope
on a shearing shed rafter she hung
with life's stresses she couldn't cope

there was no oxygen in her lungs
this is what her daughter Emma found
on a shearing shed rafter she hung

much sadness and shock was around
her depressive condition she did hide
this is what her daughter Emma found

Jean decided to take a suicide ride
ever so devastated were her kith and kin
her depressive condition she did hide

the air of life is a vapor so very thin
one should be thinking of existing
ever so devastated were her kith and kin

on a death ticket Jean did her traveling
one should be thinking of existing
she took her own life by way of a rope
with life's stresses she couldn't cope
This poem is based on a true story.

on being favoured he had
an immense desire
to be numero uno with
everyone lit his fire
the unabated chase
in wanting a selfish admire
yet he got bogged down
by his messy quagmire

after some while supporters
deserted his camp
for they'd no longer be
a reliable rubber stamp
all the cheerleaders took
away his resolute ramp
there he was left as
a failed starring champ*

the bright spotlight didn't
shine on him again
his devotees worked out
the idol's me train
as we all know stardom
is a transient plain
not ever staying fixed

O-One has been kept waiting for a long spell
N-Not knowing if one can get out of this hell
E-Endless days one has spent in an unlit well

H-Hope seems not to be journeying one's way
U-Under clouds of darkness one shall e'er stay
N-Never shall one see a bright sunny day ray
D-Deemed to be unfit to walk that old hallway
R-Realizing this fact sure makes one feel gray
E-Excluded from the folks at the homely bay
D-Dare one say one is mired in a boggy clay

A-All is lost one can't redeem one's former place
N-Negotiations with other are now a void space
D-Dear me one is in a position of sheer disgrace

E-Ever so badly one did behave all that time ago
I-In hindsight good manners needed to be the go
G-Grave is one's standing and so very full of woe
H-Heck the word one called when one had to go
T-Tidings of ejection delivered by the boss honcho
Y-Yonder one was told on the spot to quickly go

D-Down in the dumps one has been for so long
A-Away at a lone outpost well out of the throng
Y-Yearning to once again hear their joyful song
S-So one is on an island for those who do wrong

O-Only three chances did one get at that game
F-Four weren't going to be allotted to this dame
F-Folly to think that one could avoid any shame
L-Leniency not given one has to wear the claim
I-In the finally wash up one's lesson is to be tame
N-Needling the boss honcho scrubbed one's name
E-Erased one shall be for being a bad egg dame
one hundred percent
is an ideal quota
there's perfection
in the quota

that's
the
quota
all
gals
so
love
on
guys
giving
one
hundred
percent
of
their
love

no other quota
will suffice
it's got to be
one hundred percent
that quota
is so nice

why give
forty percent
why give
sixty percent
always make it
one hundred percent

it's a simple maths equation
one and one
equals a well entwined two
and it only happens
when one hundred percent
ensues
the Coronavirus is here to
stay
and it isn't going to go
away

on a virus becoming
established
never does it get completely
banished

we must accept that we have to live with
it
and know we cannot do much about
it

viruses have dwelt among us for many a long
year
and of them we'll not be one hundred percent
clear
though I only own
one meager brain cell
it has through life served
me exceptionally well

of a singular character
in its decision making
not being influenced by
an alternate undertaking

the cell has always known
how to opine
there's a beauty in the way
it does clearly define

one cell of independence
not relying on co-dependence
of the tack only unto me
coming with a lifetime guarantee
in the year two thousand and thirty
Desmond was expecting a rising temperature
of one point five degrees
so he scampered outside to sit in a
cooler southern breeze

but much to his surprise the temperature
wasn't as hot as that
therefore he wasn't in need of a sun shading
broad brimmed hat

the horrendous predictions that were made
at COP 26
didn't appear to be in its temperature
mix

he thought unto himself how could
climate forecasters get it all so wrong
thence he rushed back inside to dress himself
in a woolen coat which was ankle length long
ones shadow is ones best friend
constantly there till the end

it's the best friend one ever possesses
and of its owner it never second guesses

so be glad it stays so close
ones shadow ones best leaning post

I was forced to slow down
the highway patrol
had spotted me
driving a little too speedily
of recent days I've found a Texan chum
she so concurs with my stance
we're of the one thinking plum

there's that familiar concordance
in regards to a particular matter
she so concurs with my stance

our minds are definite of akin patter
on expressing the very same thing
in regards to a particular matter

we've voiced it as the ditto type ring
one is sure of her alike opinion
on expressing the very same thing

unanimity is our common dominion
seldom will one see such assent
one is sure of her alike opinion

both of us being in principle consent
seldom will one see such assent
of recent days I've found a Texan chum
we're of the one thinking plum
for the soul to rejoice
and to be in rhapsody
the rivers of peace
need to be supplicated
unto thee

drink of serenity
drink in its tranquility
thence the tune of inner beauty
sings with divinity
one paws so light
the neighbour's ginger cat did walk
on paws so light
not wishing to cause his prey fright
creeping softly with a hushed stalk
then catching the grey field mouse's chalk
on paws so light
on sensing warmth
vivid spring colours emerge
out of the coldness
to display a resplendent
floral palette in gardens
on the first day love did bloom
yet this love twas destine for doom

on the second day love waned
it poured in rain sustained

on the third day love split apart
none twas left in the heart

on the forth day love lost its glow
gone twas the light's show

on the fifth day love lay in despair
for want of sweet scented air

on the sixth day love didn't survive
not a jot stayed alive

on the seventh day love died
whereby the lovers cried

on the eighth day love resurrected
whereupon love reconnected
a prompt from a poet friend inspired this write...

the Texas option
didn't work out
but there are other options
here and about

the option from Ohio
has got real appeal
that is why
one went for its deal

with other options
in reserve
one can select them
with relishing verve
the locale on the horizon
did snare his eye
so he ventured there
to give it a try

the crowd applauded
his every action
on them he made
a profound impaction

his conquest of the terrain
was monumental in scale
his venture to other region
netted him a huge bale

through the territory
he blazed a trail of magnificence
these days he's the toast
of all those who pursue his golden opulence
the idea for this poem came from the Shakespearean line ... "he came, he saw and he conquered".
