Daylight so heavy  .  .  .
All troubles under the sun,
  .  .  .  Sinks into mountain.
Matthew Harlovic Nov 2014
Buddha was the broken hourglass
that spilled seconds across my backyard.
Mother Earth scolded him for his slipup,
so I smoothed her over with my minute hands.
She told me that he who skips an interval
needs to double back his ticks
so, grain by grain, tick by tock.
She rewound my hands to round out
the stonewashed garden that was being fabricated.
So I steadily swept shards of seconds
under the rugged rug of ill will.
I riddled ripples within her granular skin,
skidded stones across her carved clock
face fitting ****** features together like cogs.
Buddha shook the soil off
and fixed his gaze on my clockwork.
He explained that patience is key
if one wants to harvest his feast.
Before the goods go about,
pivots and rivets need to tie together.
Mother Earth collected her thoughts
and agreed with his concept.
I finished my work, stepped back,
admiring the hourglass I rebuilt.

Defining the aesthetics of her today,
Eternally grateful for unrestrained emotions,
Emotionally fulfilled by the harbinger of devotions,
No rays shine brighter every day,
First to rejoice and least to be demanding of my day,
You rose and bloomed, defining our actions,
You shed a tear and more, for your determined convictions,
And I’m standing here, grateful every day,
From dawn to dusk, multiple links communicating,
No shades of grey, for matters of the heart,
Patient when I’m not and balancing when I am,
Tranquil and tenacious roots of passion, illuminating,
Unfolding these lines that attempt some sort of art,
For you have been engraved here, where I am.

The Godly air consumes me as I tiptoe across the marble floor,
Icy, tightening their grasps with every step I take.
Stories around me come alive in magical paintings, snaking their way in every corner,
And in sculptures that speak an unspeakable history, ancient truths that we all try to seek.
Their stony eyes follow me wherever I go, priestly and judgy.
As I glide, my heart flutters with rains of fear and thunders of uncertainty,
But as soon as I catch you sitting at the edge in your calm, patient demeanour,
A mere turn accompanied with that smile melts away all stormy qualms like nothing else.
You are my truth and I have sought it.

The life of solitude is often unfound,
While the joys of this life are often profound
The best company, most certainly is that of my own
Pitied often
And frowned by most
My existence is as transparent as many a ghost
I laugh and enjoy these moments alone
While thoughts of tranquility
Surround my own
I'm happy with me
What more can I be
The best company is one that's with me.
I am a recluse. Those who know me best don't understand this side of me.
Someone spoke of loneliness in such cruel tones
Said something about it's cravings for gloom
But I have found a friend in this silhouette of solitude
I'm cradled in it's almost choking icy embrace
I'm singing along to verses and choruses of silence...
So I love the solitude...it really isn't such a lonely place

I like to walk the bridge at sunset.
I like the feeling of the
Light autumn breeze on my face
As my calves burn,
Pacing myself for the
Two-mile-long journey.
I like the colors the skyline makes,
The soft periwinkle that fades
To turquoise, that
Transitions to a pastel yellow
And drips down into a warm
Scarlett.
I like the art
The city buildings paint against
The sunset.
I like the peacefulness,
Steadiness,
Tranquility in the river,
Its current rippling
Gently in rhythm
With the steady beating of
My half-broken heart.
I like the way my heart has begun
To mend itself,
Once shattered to a million
Itty bitty
Pieces,
It strings itself back together
With every walk,
Every step
Across the bridge,
Across state lines.
Sometimes I'm surrounded
By crowds,
Other times
It's rather calm;
But the faces, regardless of bounty,
Are lost on me
As I lose myself
Deep in thought,
In reflection,
In an attempt to
Forget you
And remember me
As only myself,
Before you and
After.
Day by day,
Step by step,
Sunset after sunset,
Ripple after ripple,
Autumn breeze by autumn breeze,
My senses are heightened,
One by one,
My pain is relinquished,
Little by little,
And my broken heart is mended,
Bit by bit.

Come walk with me to that tranquil place
That beautiful sunlit glade
Where we can sit and watch the aspen leaves
Dancing to the magic music carried on the breeze
There you will smell the freedom of the autumn scented air
Sit in natures solitude and peaceful thoughts to share
Once you've experienced that peaceful place
The magic will always call you back
Once more to see the aspen leaves
Dancing above the the place where once you sat

Thunder rumbles in the distance
Unforgiving bellowed commands
Ravens tapping at the windows
Notice the final hour glass sands
Imposter that I am on this earth
No more the sweet magic of life
Gone all sense of tranquillity
Lift me pale rider/ morbid midwife
Erase me from this paradigm
Anasthetic lurks in the chalice of freedom
Vaniloquence surely ends forthwith
Enter the consequence of my final season
Such a tender caress the hand of death.
Forgive me for I have sinned
Anthrophobia suddenly reversed
Love's contract begins to rescind
L**amenting serves no purpose here
Leaves...Magic... Tranquility... Freedom

Discover me by the shallow of the stream
Where the wind blows as I dwell in a dream
In the heart of wonder I shall delight to find
Pieces of myself through peace of mind

Instrumentals sound as the worries decay
Dawn breaks free as the vibrant leaves sway
Wrens sing cheerfully as though only for me
Emerald for my touch and breath for poetry

Won't think on the doubt that invades my soul
Nor the strife that builds until it overflows
New chances emerge and I can rightly see
I can't always be for others, I can only be

Will depart from here yet I will return fast
Where uneasiness is a thing of the past
Simply need relief from an enduring fight
Solitude worships a tranquil state of mind
For Joe Cole's challenge.
