You gave me every chance
and I burned them all down
Sumaira Asghar Apr 2019
He tiptoes through the dark forest
in the smell of damp earth
combined with old fallen leaves
in this bitter summer eve.
Dull cloudless sky hovers over him
along with the bare limbs
of tall trees while he hears
cooing of birds returning to their nests.
He makes his way slowly,
but his heartbeat is on the run,
rises, falls as if imitating the sun.
A battle of words is taking place inside him,
but he does not dare to whisper.
Stars slip out of existence
and moon is about to set.
Comfort disappears, regrets pose a threat.
Last thread of light casts shadows
on the ground where he treads barefooted.
Waves of nervousness wash over him
whereas folks lumber in peace-
a complete detachment from the scene!
Reaching the far end, he bents
holding his knees, sweating all over
as if his one last hope ends.
to be free of all his burdens.
His eyes catch a glimpse of drowning dawn
making him wonder if the universe
abandoned it too between
transition of day and night
just as he is left out unseen
somewhere between dreams and memories.
He is left out unseen
somewhere between dreams and memories.

Burn the canvas and lose the attire
Just learn from this don’t choose the squire
I’ve lived rich and I’ve lived poor
Laid in a ditch and saw the end so near
Thrown out and cast away
Starving yet drunk lead astray
Good “friends” and good places
Make ammends and fake chases
Looking for redemption or a spot of glory
Searching for salvation in a place not holy
A voice burnt like the scars of time
A choice you learned yet far behind
Apologize and sleep it off
Wake up to realize you’re alone and scoffed
3 years and yet still alone
No more tears you’ve done all you’ve shown
Can’t take back the things that happened
Can’t fix the the rings that cracked and
Still here you are
Awake 3 am writing in the car
Missing them and knowing they are gone
Wishing them the best knowing you might not see dawn
But none the less you go on
Rambling and talking
Just wishing the life wasn’t the picture you’ve drawn

“Paul’s dilemma”
A headline of my life
Hidden passions of doing
The things I ought not
While the things I should
Exacerbate a shyness of action
I drain the precious resource
Like a religion I’ve committed
Lord knows my vices
And time as always
A fox beneath the vine

There is an infinite awareness
That each of my days are littered with the past
Bogged down in the sludge of regrets
The fine mist of mistakes coat my hands
As I push through each day
The only relief is the realization of self worth
That is lost in the tides of life

Do you ever wonder of the love that could have been?
Of the one that makes you feel seen?
That makes you feel understood

If only your misaligned fates could be rewritten
If only words and looks could be enough
If only comfort wasn't so deceiving, like an insect trapped in the sticky sweetness of molasses
If only you could claw them out of your conscience

Because another has arrived in their stead
Has swept you off your feet and grounded you all at once
Has shown you that you do not need to know or completely understand
To appreciate, to love, to respect

Because despite your differences they have offered you their life
They have asked for yours in return
You want to give them that and more
You want to show them how much you appreciate being taught that taking the plunge does not mean drowning
That you can find refuge in the unknown

But how do you stop longing for your soulmate when you've found the love of your life?
I want them both and I hate myself a little more every time I think about it because I have already chosen.

I have gobs and heaps of regrets
Not of fallacious things I did
But of the lost moments and times
that loop my mind like a proplyd

Grasp those moments! Savor those times!
They depart as fast as they show
So kiss her twice and take that chance
If you don't try, you'll never know

Life is too short, so live it well

I remember the “reset” button
on my Sega Genesis
and my N64 as a child.
With a quick **** of my hand,
all my mistakes, and problems
could be solved.
I’d get a fresh start,
a new chance to win what I lost.
Almost every single day
I wish for a “reset” button on life.
Instead, I’ll have to settle
for an incomplete game
with achievements unlocked,
with no extra content,
and the lowest of low scores.

I found a hole in my bucket list
Like an hourglass
My dream are slipping,
Dripping on my bare floor.

I should be really ******
Because I'll miss
Entering through unknown doors.

I haven't time to fix the hole,
The grains are moving,
And Mammy's calling her babes home.

My favourite just hit the ground,
Like a blood stain,
Or a sewer vein,
It  makes not a sound.

Two floats in the air,
Three's on the lip,
Four swirls near a hole,
The remaining dreams
Are caught in the eddy;
The final drop's precariously ready.

Eliza's fix would surely falter,
My bucket list can't hold water.
