I am a hero beyond imagine,
Soft velvet red cloak, the medallion resting in my throat,
My heartbeat stomps through my ribcage,
I am here to rescue the princess.

I trudge through the forest and I remember,
I remember who I was before when I came here,
Cape swishing at my ankles, feet in gilded armor,
I grip the glittering blade between my hands.

White marble penetrates the darkness,
I march up to the mossy stone wall, the crooked, tarnished sign,
“No trespassing,” it says, and suddenly
I am standing at a fence, copper, russet, faded gold.
Barbed wire tangles like Christmas lights, family dinners,
I remember and my heart aches.

I see the shrine, the elegant masterpiece
of quartz and precious stones,
I remember the way she used to stand at the bottom,
Defiant and angry, she threw rocks and never shattered,
It’s only a pile of pebbles, grass, dirt, in my eyes
But to her, it was the world and more.

I have to remember I am not her anymore,
What was her world is no longer mine.
I see a possibility, an opportunity, a path,
I take one last glance and I know it is the only way.

I am Prince Charming like no other,
I slice my way through the bushes,
I am arrogant, I am of diamonds and steel.

The green crisscrosses like a net,
I realize someone must have put up a new fence,
I see paint cans, old bottles, moldy shoes.

I see the life that once was my existence,
And I turn around and climb over that wall.
Softly touching down on the carpet of twigs and needles.

The trees wave in the dizzy sky,
The dragon’s snarling mouth is the last image I see,
Burned into my brain with a fiery blast,
Suddenly I am thrown backward.

I stand in front of the tree,
There is something tied in its branches.
I lift my sword and bring it down,
It is just a slender branch.

I place a boulder the size of my heart, my fist,
I flee because I am a coward
I may be a prince but I live only with jewels,
Not the stench of blood and panic amidst battle.

I am here to rescue the princess,
But I can’t even rescue myself
From the past that seduces me.
Am I a hero beyond imagine?

the princess locked herself away
behind tall walls of grey
so no one could see her die inside
and she can hide behind her pride

the dashing rogue saw these walls
she wanted to explore its halls
she wanted to see every inch
and find out why she's so quick to flinch

the rogue found an ornate gate
but saw the lock and had to wait
but she's impatient to see her free
so she set out to find the key

she travelled far and wide
to where the dragon resides
at the top of the highest mountains
surrounded by deadly lava fountains

the golden key dangled from its neck
beneath wicked teeth that kept you in check
but the rogue devised a cunning plan
to get the key as quick as she can

with clever words, she tricked the dragon
to give the key without any nagging
so back down the mountain, she walked
to match the key with the lock.

Three princesses born of no man,
Touched magic with infant hands
Grasping, culling, casting
Three princesses dwelling
Where no man can
A fantasy piece written at the same time as another poem. The other poem has been accepted for publication, but I still like this one.

I know how the fairytale goes.
Nobody wants the dragon
Guarding the tower.
They want the Princess
They can save.
But I have scales for skin
And I breathe fire
Through my fangs.
Don't assume I won't
Eat you for dinner
And use your bones
To pick my teeth.

Lying my bed thinking of you
In every hours
It feels like I'm stupid
Overthinking that could be happen
Just in fairytales

Having a Red ripe tomato in my cheeks
When I saw you looking at me
It's been a years I can't tell you
Because I'm afraid

I keep denying
When your friends asking
And they've saying that you love that girl
My eyes start watering
Hold it saying great

Be the prince of my heart
I'll be the princess of yours
We will have a happy ever after
Just in fairytales

I’ve seen her before,
A girl in a flowy white dress that matched mine.
When I approached her, she smiled warmly.
Handing me a flower crown she made, she told me her name.

Pretty dresses and high heels,
Barbies and princesses,
Flowers and ponies,
Magic and fairies.

But eventually a princess wants a prince.

Dresses turns to crop tops,
Barbies thrown away,
Ponies replaced by cars,
And magic is gone for good.

Princes arrive for my friend
She is unable to see their true monstrous forms
I don't want to be left behind
A sad fate

When was it, that I, myself, fell for their deceiving looks?

Fàdéshéwà!
Omo baba é,
Born with a silver spoon
Your fun will end soon.

Fàdéshéwà!
Oko Maama é,
All rods were spared
But she was ruined by her peer

Fàdéshéwà!
Omo Oba,
The beauty of our land
Now cursed by the gods.

Fàdéshéwà!!
The most beloved
Clothed with pride
From your fall you can never hide.

Fàdéshéwà!
Please make us proud.
That was her mama's cry
Yet she would not even try.

Fàdéshéwà!
Ranti omo eni ti iwo nse
Her father warned
But she refuses  to fàdé shéwà.

The juices you know you’re sipping
The mango peach goodness
******* these fruits
Tasting their sweetness
Drinking the sugars
Drowning in the flavoring

Yellow in the cup
Yellow in the eyes
Enjoying the dancing
Reaping the benefits of your fruit
Slipping in extra flavor to drown in it

Make a man go crazy over a peachy princess
But the juice in the golden holy grail
Is the truth of planting seeds in the soil
A fruitful soul can grow
But keeping the poison will put you below
