Lesson learned is not a phrase I am about to utter
because my teacher developed a stutter
told me I needed to lie low
let it blow over
I wasn’t one for sailing but I knew the wind would take me where I needed to go
so I blew kisses into the distance
asked for no assistance
but got well wishes as if I was on my last breath
lying in a hospital bed
the food is better than you expect
if your taste buds haven't dried out yet
I’m slowly coming undone
a dwindling of perception
I swear I saw you one time
trying to catch my kiss
I missed I know I did
having a direction was never my thing
I'm glad you were my compass
but now the needle keeps spinning
I cannot find my north.

To be seen for the first time;
Your palm pressed firmly against my cheek but I felt it radiate in my chest. Watching your eyes gazing the horizon of my pupil. Getting lost in the breathless moment of our desire escaping. I don't think there are enough thank you's to be said about that moment. By now I would have already created an extended fantasy of this night turning into a lifetime, but not this time. This moment shall be pressed like lilacs in between my journal just as is. This time I don't pray this road leads anywhere other than where it actually ends. I could have said I loved you in that moment but I waited till after you left & just told the universe thank you. Thank you for whatever this transforms or ceases to be.

Am I alive?
If everything around me,
Is nothing but,
A lie?

our pupils widen to let in more light so that we can see something better, but
when we see people we love, our pupils widen to take more of them in,
to drink as much of their image into our eyes as possible

my eyes change to see more of you
the human body is spectacular scientifically but we're so soft and pure when it comes to people we love

Contemplating
the
elusive word
with pen in hand
like
a
soldier
guards his sword
gauging
fervor
"love and war"
.

In the end only time will tell
heaven-bound
or
cryptic
hell
stains on the conscience will remain
resurrecting
a
prosaic name.

You use your cleanest rag
to clean a mess
An antiseptic swab
to clean a wound
And the softest strongest
to wipe your ****

Only the strong
can be burdened
Only the living
bleeds when cut
And a tree withered
to its roots still lives

The poor illustrates
the folly of greed
The outcasts reveal
the pretence of good
And the chosen shattered
that evil's judged

Look
Through the window
watching paintbrush skies
fade into a starlit night
moving over us
hurdling forward
carrying our suitcases of reflections
- worries, frustrations, relief.

Look
without seeing
Because I'm imagining a memory
- frightfully similar
to predicting the future.
Cornering the world,
I'm turning away
from paintbrush skies.

Look
back and forth between
my canvas and my muse
within and without my mind
Moving with broad strokes
that shrink into the detail
Never quite sure  if I'm seeing
what's really ahead
or in my head.
