the jersey breeze
cultivates her curls,
as they bounce in the crisp air.

she’s the reason you can’t sleep at night.

the day breaks
into song when you meet her gaze;
she hums along, her voice
soft - like red velvet.

against the green
wallpaper in her room
she looks so beautiful

you wonder if she can sleep at night.

the night falls, and
in your rest she grows a foot taller,
becoming wise, like the book of poetry
you leave by your nightstand.

her friends know
that is she the one
who spreads herself thin to block the sun when it’s too hot.

she sleeps without closing her eyes.

her moments blend into the next ones:
she is so refreshing - even when she is thirsty;
and the acorns fall from her pockets;
and the deer come running;

and we all sleep soundly.

Eye Liner
Her only adornment
as she dances
entrances
throws glances.
<>
Eye contact
Her one flirtation
as she sways
displays
shyly plays.
<>
Eye catching
Her unique attraction
as she calls
enthralls
gently falls.

.
I saw thee dancing betwixt the trees,
wearing the greenest of velvet dresses,
hair bouncing in a flow of wild wind,
cascading down in tight curled tresses.
Joyously giggling at Natures comfort,
her love surrounding thee in a cloak,
'Tis then thy truest feminine snares
caught the heart of this mighty Oak.

Day breaks on Doubletop Mountain, shadowing villages below.
Three-thousand eight hundred feet tall, it captures the eye!
And standing at attention there in front of me, a battalion of Sugar Maples in full…. Fall…. Regalia!
Cascading tones of Crimsons, Burgundy, scarlet reds and Golden Hue.

Gazing over Dunk Hill as farmer’s plow  fields, turn again for fertility,
There are only brief streams of life giving sunlight, and now the sky turns to a pale grey.
Me, well I live for this time of year….enjoying the evening autumn constellations,
Or Moms dining table adorned with Indian corn and blackberry canes!

Bessie's Margaretville home begins the fall ritual of canning and drying.
Breaking out winter clothes…as she proclaims "no whites after Labor Day"!
The last bit of warmth now dwells just behind the Catskill’s Harvest Moon,
And the V of geese honk their good-byes to the summer sun.

Dark yet light
Warm yet cold
Rough yet smooth
Old yet young
Many yet one

Remembers love engraved
Forever without sin, waving in the wind
Bent with force, bows its head
And yet, looks straight ahead
Stands still and silent its feet entrenched
Sometimes clothed, sometimes naked to the eye
Strong and straight or gnarled and bent
Shaded or stark it welcomes light

Grows mighty from so small
Features colours red, green and gold
Casts open its arms for all to behold
A perch, a home, an attitude of strength
Somewhere to climb when child like
And some would call it home within its arms

Reaches to the sky that it embraces
Knows the aroma of many places
And sometimes bears wonderful presents
Or foods of foreign resources on platters of clay
It holds silver, stainless steel and gold
And with parchment like sails
It would carry you off to lands and strange places

We take its worth without thought
We laden it with our burden
We drink in its presence without thought
We eat at its heart, for which it never complains
This is the magnificence of woodland Oak.

A river flows beside a tree
Which grows upon an earthy hill
Both strength and beauty can be seen
No need to hide
No want for veil
And the word of God flows underneath
As the river runs
To foster all which growth entails
So enter in lovers embrace
And share in the water
Drink it deep
Both when it flows and when it speaks
But especially when it stands still
Little secret about me - I always write a poem when I'm at a wedding that matters to me. Just a little something I can give to the couple later as a different perspective on their day. Enjoy (if at all possible).

A Cat saw a mouse       Mouse knew cat was near
Mouse gave cat catnip             They became good friends.

Heart raced seeing you              a charming beauty.
Winds rose inside breath           wanting to launch kiss.

Energies vibrate                  giving my heart wings.
Oh to fly in love                  celebrating life.

Mighty Oak does speak        inside gentle wind.
Listen carefully                      with sound from your heart.
Just learned about writing DYAD poems  That is where you write   two lines only. In groups of two 5 syllables on one line   and two five syllables on the other.

They who know the oak      learn there is wisdom
written in nature     words cannot describe.
12:30 - 31/07/17

State of mind: calm; deep thought.
Perspective: natural; spiritual.

Thoughts: from thinking - that to truly understand something, you have to experience it for yourself. To read about it, or know of another's interpretation, dilutes the power of witnessing something firsthand. In the instance of the oak tree, its knowledge is in the understanding; the understanding is in the sensation; the sensation is in the experience.

We know only what our senses reveal, and they are rooted in our nature, the nature that makes of men what it has made of oak trees. What truth has been revealed is that which makes sense. What is beyond sense, may well be beyond us, simply because it is too much. The light that shines, increases gradually, so there is time to adapt to the intensity that awaits.

There is a memory that exists in nature. It remembers. We can learn all we want to from what has been recorded, but if we should reveal something for ourselves, of ourselves, in ourselves... those things can be found by reflection. The knowledge of ourselves is in the reflection of experience. Make of life what you experience.

Questions: What exists beyond sensation?

Oak trees sway in breeze
Red dirt driveway curving dividing the two
Canola blankets fields in yellow
This Haiku is about the house where my children grew up. I loved this place miss it immensely
