How do I paint my life ?
when I don't dream in colors.
hiraeth Feb 2023
the moon whispers to us
she flickers behind clouds
and tells deep truths but
only to those willing to listen
she watches
and warns
and reminds us who we are

some choose not to listen
to her pale features
and they mock those who do
we do not judge
we do not argue
we pity their folly
we benefit from her guidance
and we thank her for her love

we find when staring up squint-eyed
her cycles closely mimic ours
and when she's dark and seems to hide
her kinship still echoes in the stars

were we looking
for the feminine
of our soft hands
no questioning
the nature of daylight
is wonder, we feel it
in our touch
we know the ancient art of
cartography: love memory
death quivers deltas of tears
we taste the starvation of breath
the magnitude of gratitude

we kept the drum of hearts
alight to catch the waves of time
Anna's drum summoned Shiva,
the master of shiver
the god of blood
carrying sage scent in our hair
forgotten paths in our shapes
pink lotus flowers in our wombs
bold desires in our feet
tales of flames in each scar

we recognise each other
greet with a soul reverence
across time across space
we forgive ouselves
our betrayals violations
of a feminine truth
we wait for the men we love
we set ourselves free
from the spinning wheel of pain

we receive
we keep
what is alive
what is dead
still not born
in refused bodies:
the possibility of
kindness

we are women
we are dancers
we sing fiercely,
gently from the
chest of the moon
dedicated to J, A, S, A, S, M, I, A, B, A with gratitude
it's wonderful to come together

Maybe it will hurt a little less,
If I agree that yes I am a mess.
You say I don't know how to behave,
Be the perfect daughter for you to showcase.
Dad, I am not perfect and certainly not brave.
Mom, You live in hollow society and break my soul for your society.
Why must I die every day? my dreams sacrificed in every way
So that you can have your rules sailed and kingdoms to hail.
You say the biggest honor you did to me by giving me life
I must adhere to your command like a puppet, eat the meal, and compromise.
But did it occur to you that your words are sharper than the knife,
And the long list of expectations is dimming my light.

It's evident that the sun is setting in my life,
but for once I so badly wants to be a sunrise.

Under the tears of  a tiny whisper
may I find peace in your  love
Under it's  surface; waving calm goodbyes and it's scenic few

What washes away old
brings forward something anew
Like as being under the ocean moon-
at times so blue; but in the end it was all so beautiful...

She is Red, bleeding in oceanic blues
Scattered in life's spectrum with different hues
You may know her but she doesn't belong to one definition.

And just like that,
I lost my poetry again.
But my nighttime friend was there.
The moon who holds my desires and fear.
The one who keeps all my tangled thoughts.
Reminding me of the wishes I’ve daily written in the night sky.
All my stories of pain and love,
my sunken dreams and storms.
Yet I told the moon of what I know,
that my loss does not have
to be an end.
A realization
Coleen Mzarriz Jan 2023
With the hustling of leaves falling onto the ground and my hands used to the cold weather of Maple Street, the same sky where little strange souls like us meet—under the waves of clouds thickening our sight and our smiles splattered all over the place—remains.

I stirred my coffee, and you drank your now-cold chocolate drink. Your eyes carry the burdens of the stars and gravitate towards mine—I have been awake and alleviating the presence of old souls surrounding us, and I broke down. You embraced me like the classic song you are.

A lighthouse guarding travelers attempting to overcome the sea, I caught your hand and pressed it closer to my chest. Doors opened, unfolding a new chapter for us to climb higher than usual, and you looked at me like I used to look at you in pictures I keep for myself—lulling this young, brave soul to sleep in dull hours where you softly snore in a damp bed while the moon speaks in a softer tone to let you close your weary eyes and darkness begins to unfold within.

Sometimes it makes it harder to breathe the very same air you inhale—and these two young hearts live in another world, closer to home, and you held me, finally, the anchor I once dreamed of, and now your presence I could see—your skin I could be comfortable with.
wrote this for you, my love.
