You are immortal until proven otherwise.
You can't argue though. I mean, have you tested?
Michael Stefan Feb 2020
I watch kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall
I've seen you live a thousand lives
And witnessed every awkward kiss in two-door hatchbacks
I've seen every fist thrown in anger
And every expression of love through art
I've seen every tyrant rise to power
And every act of a strong people pull them down in chains
Then they rise to an ultimate greatness
And although the pattern always repeats
I rather enjoy the last one
A hopeful look at immortality

A smile from your lips
And a bow to your hips
Never show your yellow teeth
Or remove your steel from sheath
Casually greet the gods
No matter form they come
Try not to be at odds
With all and not just some
And though you must revere
The ones you stand below
Never show rejoice or fear
Until you get to know
Heena Jan 2020
I want to be consumed in every breath you take
I want to stay in every beat of your heart
I want to live in your eyes
You made me immortal my love
The eternity is mine
If you are with me until the end of time

I will watch forests grow and fall
see the seas rise and swallow countries
the sun dim into a minor star
be able to take a return trip to Mars
witness the folly of man squabbling
like infants, fighting in the dirt of life
while knowing what infinity is
though I'll never see an end to it

I shall become alone, afraid of love
see my children born and bury them
watch the loves of so many lifetimes
wither into old age and die leaving
me heartbroken knowing I can never
follow them into the darkness
death and I will sit and talk about old times
and all the moments he has stolen from me.
Written from the point of view of someone who will live forever.

The older we are
The more invisible by far
We seem to the younger mind
But soon they will see
What's known by you and me
We're only immortal for a limited time
