You've heard all of my stories.
You're versed in what I do,
but when I ask it of you,
you won't try anything new.

Tell me,
how should we progress, then?
Or would you like to stay
within the shade forever,
never knowing, never knowing
more
             more
                           more
        more
                        more
   more

           more?

a dog barks to start a fight with bubba
and he gets
mean like an ant who's
sugars' been stolen and I tell him
             that's an ugly dog
when ugly people populate the planet, I get mad,
but I don't bite their heads off.
                                        He got really calm after that
and I waved at a gardener
as if to say,
                   'It's okay,
                                   it won't happen again.'

Many owls hoot around this house.
It goes on at full length the night.
Broken record hoots on a treadmill,
stirring sheets, I'm up at one window,
then another. Dog ugh's his dismay,
not with the owls, with me.

I ugh back.

Certainly, I'd prefer somnolence
as well. So roll over Rover, this
infectious restlessness has gone
epidemic. Now coyotes are cackling.
The ever out there is in here, again.

I begin my jotting in the one thumbed
way of our present day. Thank a
saturation of stars for our modern
cellular contraptions. We can all now
fiddle away the night and not disturb
our precious pet's rest.

Timeliness of nature and creative
spiritual awakenings align.
Sometimes.

A Dogs Life

Despite my clumsy I’ve found a new home
With what’s called people, in a kennel in a dome
They feed me and hug and I lick their face
There is a round thing they throw and I just have to chase…..

It’s been now 2 years since my rescue from hell
It wasn’t so bad but now I’m quite well
Lots of walks near the street round the houses in a loop
I no longer wet the carpet, it’s outside where I ****.

They tell me I’m 10 this year, It feels like so much more
I no longer feel like chasing, I feel like 74
They’ve made 3 new people since the day that I came
They poke, **** and pull - good thing that I‘m tame

My vision is gone, and my hips are quite worn
Love to those that loved me since I was born,
But years have caught up on this old furry fellow.
I hope when they think of me they’ll feel a bit mellow.

People tell me to "Move On"
How can I when I hurt
Then I get told "Forget"
How can I if it hurts me
I lost my greatest love
When I was young I lost my cat, dog, and fish
They told me to move on and forget

I won't forget you
I loved you all
Don't forget anything you care for
Remember but move on from the hurt
Let it build you up
Move on
but don't forget

"I'm on a roll!" said the ketchup to the hot dog.

An angel and a dog sat on a ridge.

Sun set before them;
Cloud stretched from earth to heavens;
Wind came up behind them;
And tousled their fur and feathers.

Said angel to dog,
"You lucky creature of earth.
You never made a choice,
Never had to doubt,
Never bore the burden
Of knowing what life's about."

Replied dog to angel,
"You lucky creature of heaven.
You got to make a choice,
Got to help a man,
Got to soothe his pain
As I but wish I can."

Said once more the angel,
"Of words of thanks
I have been deprived;
Yet you are scratched
And given rawhide."

Replied again the dog,
"Those same hands of man,
That pet and pacify,
My brothers sadly learned
They can beat and vilify."

Shouted angel at dog,
"Consider yourself lucky,
That body is all they mar;
You cannot even fathom
Torturous souls lost to dark."

Evenly dog to angel,
"Am I not of creation?
Am I not creation speaking?
I suffer the blood of my grandfathers,
And of my grandsons.
I know naught else,
But this I know completely."

Snidely angel in retort,
"I see suffering of thousands6—
All the world to lament;
Your grandfather and your son
Are not even a percent."

Somber the dog,
"And you are not an angel,
That is most evident.
Of your choice you live now,
As you died then.
Please leave me now this view,
And my destiny to man's kin."

The angel dropped to the raging sea below,
And flopped in the snow;
In rage he threw the hailstone back,
And before the tempest flew.

The dog sat a while longer,
And admired the peaceful scene;
Till a call came from the woods,
And he sped back with glee.
Not fantastic, but original.  Having just read Grendel, thoughts about placement in the heavens spring into my mind.

Pain in my rear
sitting here
dog pants in heat
expecting treats
for being good boys

You get the shovel
I’ll dig the hole
we’ll bury her together
off to heaven I suppose
or wherever dogs go
you go and grieve
I’ll let the little one know
in a little bit
just expect company
