The land of raw beauty,
Not entirely peaceful,
But I still have hope that one day unity will be treated as a duty,
For this land,I'll forever remain indebted to say "I'm grateful",
So many names are thrown upon this place,
But only the blind believe what they've heard about a thing even without seeing its face,
Dark continent???
Well black is beautiful,
It portrays strength,power,hardwork, toughness,
Though others bleach out of their complexions, they don't understand they contain pricelessness.
If only all could see what I see,
If all great dreams could come to be,
If only we all could just believe in what we had,
Including love,
Greatness would be attained,
Been robbed and taken advantage of,
In the name of innocence,
The innocence I call foolishness and illeteracy,
That's old stuff, shouldn't be the case.
My mind can't stumble upon even just one idea to change history,
But its got plenty to change the future.
If life is hope,I believe hope is life.

I'm not sure there's love or trust in this place any more yet I can't leave
which kind of man would I be to disappear as others grieve
I'm driven by the will to make this place what it was
to stick by my people in time of piece and time of wars
I'm not sure who my friends are anymore
this place is a jungle and everyone's become a wild animal
there's no harmony when some are predators others prey
no more sunshine for the mellow skies are grey
with very thick and expectant clouds of despair and pain
in hearts hopelessly awaiting for the stormy rain
wanted to walk away from these disappointments and hurt
from the start but in this dismal place lies my heart

How am I aware?
When did I become aware?
What is aware?

Does a lion know they are a lion?
What do they call themselves?
Does the Zebra know it is only a Zebra?
Does it know it's cause of death is a Lion round the neck?

As it bleeds does it remember it's family?
Does the Lion remember its first ****?
Do the buzzards have an opinion on the situation?
As they argue over dinner do they also debate?
Yes.

The birds squak " if humans are aware,  why aren't they aware of us?"
The giraffes chime in " why do they pretend our home is a wasteland?"
The monkeys holler "humans build concrete caves to hide from awareness"
The hyenas laugh " what stupid animals!"
The leopard whispers "aren't we all?"
Just thinking about consciousness

You could or you couldn't
You would, but you wouldn't
Seeing the horrors that are happening abroad, thinking it'll help by clicking 'like'
Hearing the screams of the children, watching their death unfold.
But you do nothing, millions of people, humans are dying and you do nothing.
Sharing videos, getting the word out
They view it but turn their heads.

TELL ME WHEN YOU HELPED
TELL ME WHEN YOU TRIED
But you have nothing to say, for you did nothing.
It isn't you, you're at home cozy and warm, skipping through the channels like there isn't children starving in Africa.
"Ugh i hate school!"
"I don't want to eat that!"
At least you have school, at least you have food.
Stop being so self centered, for if you were starving and someone offered you food you would take it.
Right?
"I would never eat out of the trash, That's disgusting!"
What if that's all you had to eat.
You would eat it, because you'd want to live though you say you would rather die.

where presidents die in power
the opposition die trying
Musicians die on stage
police in the line of duty
nocturnals due to *****
Soccer players on pitch
teachers while they teach
soldiers die fighting
refugees and paupers die crying
drivers die on the wheel
painters die with a quill
thieves while they steal
addicts die of smoke and pills
nobody wants to retire
even at Robert Mugabe's age
they all cling to talent and power
so tempting and inviting
won't we poets too die reciting?

African cities are rather typical
We laugh at the foreighner who
Thinks a gun necessary to fight
Not gangsters but lions too

Buildings rise from the red soil
Rich and poor live side by side
Electrictricity flows up and down
There is no need to hide

Until one night
As you stammer back
From a party delight
You sense a twig crack

You turn around
And there He
The king of the jungle
Strolling on the sidewalk

Has placed his fiery eyes
Like hell have no fury
On the jugular prize

The headline the following day

"Drunk man in hospital after encounter with city cat"

It was a lion I say
Africans can tell a good story, trust me, I'm an African.

Kyk! Kan jy dit sien?! Dis wolke.
Dis waar! Dit is gemaak uit spoke.
Mamma roep ons, lyk soos kos vir wolwe.
En boetie sin lyk soos 'n klomp golwe.
Ek kyk op en sien 'n hartjie.
Dit is groter as my hele handjie.
Mamma se ek moet my kos eet.
Maar ek hou glad nie van die beet.
Ek kyk weer op en weet ek speel in die sand.
Wolke is vir my so, so interessant.

Ochre scrubbed ebony skin
Wooden jewelery here and there
Picture perfect beauty in simplicity
She walked in moral fortification -
fashioned in decency
Hardwork and wisdom was her charm

Barefeet and weighted with firewood on her head
Pots and baskets she juggled in hands
and through scorching heat she focussed ahead
the dessert sand burning her feet
Not once did she say it was a plight

She was proud to be a woman
The keeper of men and children
Through rain through sunshine
cooperating with her man's other woman

She worked for survival of all
Getting up in the first light of day
Submitting and respecting
Raising her children in acceptable ways

She was the unglorified worrior
A war hero could not fit her shoe

But she didnt have that shoe
So she smiled and made her man happy,
and her children
