Bushels of apples
Picked from the orchard this fall
Ripe, crimson, and sweet

As Leaves Go

It begins, an annual dance.
A ritual older than conceivable time.
I have no choice in the part that I play.
My role decided before the first speck of green whispered into existence from the earth of which I sprouted.
I was born at the cusp of light, in mist, in the breath of dawn.
I was bathed with rain,
Nurtured in the warmth of the sun,
Protected with shade and
Blossoming in the light of the moon.
I’ve been secret refuge for numerous, nameless, invisible, fragile souls.
I’ve witnessed life hatch,
miracles become reality as birds stretch their wings and take first flight.
I’ve also seen the tragedy and heartache of those who’s wings couldn’t carry the weight of this world and they were born only to die.
I’ve been a harbor for these weary, wing-ed creators.
The ones who’s burden it is to keep us alive.
And I’ve climbed the wind and reached the sky.
And now, as the last warmth of summer is swept away and the chill begins to last beyond dawn,
Season demands sacrifice and branches begin to sway.
So, as I begin to dry, my color rusting, a shiver makes me take up that ancient dance.
And as infinite others have done for eons of eternity,
I must let go of this borrowed perch that was never, ever mine,
As leaves go.

thin pale grass
competing with the
big, strong tree roots
pushed to the surface
from below the ground

below the ground
there are secrets

heavy clay
compacted soil
striving for moisture and air

below the ground
there are secrets.

we cut the tree roots
remove the grass
plant a new garden

below the ground
there are reasons
I wrote this poem long ago. It is about   injustice and inequity in life and nature. And how there are so many hidden things we don’t know ... and still the sun, soil, and water are more for the grass, for the many ... for people and not those in power that come and go ... 🙏

Divine is the wilderness
Pristine in it's dancing stillness
Breeze echoing through leaves
Trees stretch up to kiss the open air

Embracing, waving hello to you and to me
To the clouds, the birds, the butterflies and bees.

Stars, sun, and moon
Say hello and smile too

We are them, they are we. I am you, you are me.
Everything in everything; all branches of the same ancient and beautiful universal tree.

I think I've had enough of society, daydreaming from the inside of a ***** factory.
All those pretty lights, glistening and glowing; Turned stars to satellites, listening and knowing.
Humankind traded their souls for ego and every day it's f*cking showing

The wind will keep blowing, and the trees will keep waving.
Freedom and peace are everywhere, waiting.

When you grow like a tree over property lines
And are drawn into a yard unwanting and free
It’s not the sharpest saw which cuts the deepest ties
But the quiet in moving away from beneath
We've all been there (at least most of us have). And you learn from it quickly, or slowly if need be. Time passes by, and you grow like trees. Slowly in learning.

The woods are calling
Calling my name
Come to us
Be with us
Be one with us

So I packed up my tent and my Ghillie Stove
Put my hiking boots on
And made my way
Into the deep dark woods
The magnificent majestic ancient woods
Full of beech, oak and hornbeam

I felt at peace once again
Amongst my friends
The tree spirits
And wood nymphs.
The realisation of just how at home I feel in the woods, and now I’ve missed it so
