Needs...

Desires...

You.
First two are fulfilled by the third

her alluring smile
may just be his aphrodisiac,
in that near constant state of arousal
the lyrical words
“who needs a lover that can’t be a friend”
keeps ringing like a temple bell instead

rendezvous may be planned on WhatsApp
but unions are only made in heaven

She
And suddenly
this life had meaning,
there was reason
to suffer on,
to try and heal,
to be present
for the moments
of wholeness
when she is there.
My fingers
tangled in her hair.
To my beautiful wife.

I'm running.
I'm running out of patience
I'm running out of time
I'm running from myself
And All I do is cry.
I'm running on empty
I'm on autopilot now
Breathing has become a labor
And I just don't know how.
This pressure is so suffocating
I can't seem to smile
I just want to run
To Get away for a while.
But these chains, they bind me here
I can't let them down
But I can't save myself
I need you now.
This emptiness is killing me
I don't know where to turn
And so I'll run into the sun
And Away my soul will burn.

In the days of seafaring yore, in a candied littoral time, my parents shared a love for wingsails; propelling their craft on the surface of gentle waters.

It was here my father navigated me into existence, by taking my mother for a long enchanted boat ride.

And like a hook and eye, they so clasped and rowed into the boundless deep. The tender rhythm of their waves stirring a rivulet that would come to be called me.

Floating in this colostrum bed underneath the heart's thicket, I settled to sleep; dreaming of cradle song and breastmilk.

My unborn hands and feet routinely practiced swimming toward the open shore; until that day when a familial voice called.

And there in the dilation of a growing current, I sprang forth; thirsting for their love from my very first cry.

I lay my hands over the rot
concealed within my belly
and imagine instead
I am ripe with a husband's love,
feeling for the beating warmth
of a life beginning inside
my desolate womb.
I await constantly
the trial of my womanly worth;
this man may be my judge.

I lost my button
off a thread
on the day when I wed
left with a half open tux
Though it hung for awhile
it fell, rolling down the isle
and down dropped my trunks
The people ‘woo’
and applaud
My future wife
was appalled
“Do you realise it’s all about you?”
I pulled up my pants
bowing at the chance
I smile, replying “I do”

The preacher may never marry us
and your mama may never know me
but I can kiss you over a flask of whiskey and dance with you under the stars and if that isn't marriage I'm not sure what God is looking for...
