Say all you want
Whatever happens to roll off your tongue
Just remember to add that I was the warmest place you knew
And you caused a blizzard
That left snowflakes on my eyelashes
And sharp icicles in my heart.
I was the warmest place you knew
And you froze me over.

The bitter rain came flying
Dropping like icy marbles,
Freezing my bones, the wind
Stung my knuckles with lightning,
Shards of glass scraping past
my tender face, torn pink
Like blood mixed with snow
And ice, this bitter day
Cori MacNaughton Oct 2015
In no way am I ready
for the bluster of winter
the deep freeze
and the ceasing of all things
green and growing

In no way am I prepared
for endless days of cold
the chill inside my house
and the greyness of the skies
for months on end

In no way am I ready
and yet
undaunted in the end
I am unwilling
to give up
Ugh - grey rainy days for days on end - and over my birthday too.  Ugh again.  This is one of those days when I wonder at the wisdom of leaving the warmth of Florida, and of California before that.  This too shall pass.

You are slipping through the cracks of my
Fingers
The fingers that once held Yours
Together interwoven.
Clutched in my hands,
These Mittens
Sewn between the spaces of
Each other's palms.
We were so close,
So Warm.
It's so cold without you
The fingers are always the first
To go.

1am
Sitting on the steps outside
Middle of winter at 1am
Sick
Tears streaming
Heartbroken
Just take me

Ice
{~~~}

I see the warmth
But feel the ice
I cannot touch
A storm to die
Frost grow faster
Shivers along my spine
The ice is breaking
  Cracking in thin lines
I don’t feel
That I’m slowly  f r e e z i n g
Ice in my veins
And I stop b r e a t h i n g
Nothing to touch
      Nothing to h-o-l-d
Why do I live in
A World So Cold?
S h a d o w s all around me
That I can feel
I cannot see
If they are real…
There is no end
There is no light
A broken soul
Without a fight
How can I see you
If there is no sun
But I can sense
That you're not the one
I shattered the surface
I killed the spark
I am forever alone
In A World So Dark
Then I saw him
My breath was taken away
What could I do?
What could I say?
How did I miss him?
Was I too blind?
     Too see his perfect look
One of a kind?
I fell for him
But he caught my soul
He held me in his arms
  And made my heart whole
No longer cold and dark
No longer filled with regret
Because he’s in my life
In A World So Perfect.

It is truly cold out, 32 degrees,
and into late night.

But, in order for me to write

I stay up late, eating ****** Nuts and ice-cream
and letting my feet freeze.

A very light mist starts,

it is freezing!
I hold my breath because

that is how
You make it snow,

you hold your breath.
How to stop?
