Familiar names
Familiar brains
Familiar faces
Familiar tastes
Familiar scenes
Familiar routines

It's  something that we take for granted -

Familiarity

Because oftentimes we’re too focused on exploration
That we forget to realize not everything has
To be new and sublime
To give us life
Sometimes familiar is good enough
Hello, familiarity.

There's no such blade
that would be sharp enough
to slice one of one's shadow.
I grab and tear mine away, though,
kneading and reshaping it
like wet clay soil
in hope, maybe
its blackness won't scare you.

From the shapeless mass,
I yearn to give a familiar form
so you may recognize me
from even taking a glimpse at it.
You know, my shadow never lies,
always telling the truth
showing its real face,
even when mine betrays.
"Du siehst! ein Hund, und kein Gespenst ist da.
Er knurrt und zweifelt, leg sich auf den Bauch.
Er wedelt. Alles Hundebrauch."

"You see? He's no phantom but a dog.
He snarls and watches, crouching on his belly.
He wags his tail - all canine habits."

(Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe: Faust, Act II,
Before The Gate, translated by Peter Salm)

Quiet, he watches
And silently, he sings with the wind
As the sun kisses his face, sprawled over the comfort of a chair
What is it he's thinking
Not much crosses his mind these days
It may be my doing, but let him live
My familiar, protecting me softly
What a wonder, a creature you are
As I observe you, from a distance
I wonder, what is it that you see

i once heard someone say
that souls were created
in two parts,
destined to spend their lifetime
searching the ends of the earth
for their missing half.
now i know,
that you were mine.
even now you are gone
and my weary bones
ache for you with each breath
all i can think
is how lucky i am
to have found and loved you
more intensely than the sun
burns in the heavens,
than never at all.
- you will be mine forever, the void never fills.

The familiar and well trodden
Walked over each and every day
Yet they still surprise and bewilder
Not so much that stones moved
Or grass grows blue or pigs fly
But the eyes of the soul renewed
Like a newborn child's first sight
Seeing the world fresh and anew
In every step you walked the walk.

Touch so comforting
A familiar hand to hold-
Spreading this disease
Honestly, I'm not one to write a Haiku. Despite that, I think that Hello Poetry needs one right now.
