in a cathedral of my own making
i am dust basked in sun light
with hands stretched out
to love the pillars
that have held me up
when the stained glass windows
were celebrated for the
light they let in
and the most divine part of me
the cracks of my temple at
the bottom of my spine were
left to widen like horizons
begging to be spread farther
were left like myths untold
but all the stories are true
and the smallest parts of me
are not fables and myths
left to keep your imagination
alive and you afloat
the smallest parts of me
are particles that have
held me up longer
than you have
and i may be alone
just as many of us are
but who has time to
count a star
when astronomers count
galaxies on the tips of their fingers
and i am but an atom of the universe
just as we all are

i lost you too easily
to space dust dreams and cosmic clouds of nebulae.
knowing you, you would have willingly dissolved yourself
to beautiful phenomena such as these

ever since i woke up to the stars igniting brighter than normal
and your body disappearing from the other side of the bed,
i packed my bags to traverse every swirling galaxy within reach
in the pursuit of finding you

perhaps that is why you decided to leave planet Earth;
you have always been itching to join the stars
you never felt settled in your skin, in the matter that made you
and you wanted to be something more.

i do not know how long i will keep searching for you amongst cosmos
and i have seen my fair share of comets and dark matter,
but whatever universe you are in may never come in sight -
at least the stars seem brighter with you now

I look up
          I see the moon staring
I look down
And I see the earth singing
I close my eyes
Then I realize the galaxy flirting
                                                  with you
                                                  your eyes
                                                  your vessel
                                                  your soul
                                                  gazing
                                                  rotating
As if You are the center of the galaxy.

And to You, the sun is envious,
And to me, You are insidious.

There were different pinks blues oranges and yellow,
Her feelings were depicted in the sky.

She remembered that time you counted off the stars
With her; the ones so neatly aligned.

She was as lost and mesmerized
As she was in your eyes..
The set with different blues and yellows
She hated to admit it but you had her at hello.

Awkward astronomer-lover.
Your nebulae concept:
The universe drawing together,
A delighted animation.
We ruefully laughed onshore,
That profound abstruse oxygen.
Their unappetizing myopia,
Misguided eye sockets.
I picked out words that stood out to me in the book I was reading and arranged them as best I could. This is the result. It's refreshing. I might do it again.

The astronaut’s behind the wheel of ’91 Saturn
(Aristotelian, a machine of all the elements:
silver paint like water, the lingering smell of earth,
a driver of air, an engine of fire),
with quintessence, the road.

I forget which came first: gravel or stardust;
we’re trying to get lost but can’t seem to shake the Big Dipper.
I’ve one hand on the leather and the other on your face;
we’ve parked somewhere by Neptune, cold and blue, always morning.

We should pretend to be real people for a while, waste some precious oxygen;
stop trying to remember we’ve been here before.
Remember that uncharted was the point.

Eclipse, n.
A phase when the universe is completely dark, minus the illuminance of millions of stars dancing around the earth and the moon, celebrating the reunion of two objects in an embrace of shadows and light, in which no one can see what happens on the other side of this event, but you and I know exactly what is happening.
If I ever publish a book of poetry, I would have an entire section just for her and title it "Eclipse" and add my definition.

to hold a star
would be a magnificent thing
but where would i hold it?
my arms?
my head?
my tongue?

yes

to hold a star on my tongue
i’d cough up a slew of new constellations
and put them into place
form nebulas
taste the moon- any moon
eat a planet
or a comet
bathe in stardust
sleep on clouds
fly over a supernova

if i could hold a star

"I think we're stars that lost our brightness,"

"But aren't stars the brightest before they die?"

This I tell you, we weren't the brightest
there's Rigel, Canopus and Sirius
we were merely a dot in the sky
never would we be noticed by people's eyes

star light, star bright
I wish I may
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight

astronomy was our thing
the moon, the stars
they were our everything
for us, they weren't far

simply because we found them in our hearts
i love the last line ***
