Mayapples grow as ones and twos.
Wherever they must, whenever they choose.
When they are young they rise as one
over the forest floor on a single stem.
When they ripen and are laden
with fruit and flower the one
becomes two
I becomes you.

From then on, we bloom together
not as one alone
but as two together
balanced
on a single stem.
And between us blooms a flower
neither alone could bloom before
and from us comes a fruit
to seed the forest floor.
Some creative biology here. My myth is May Apples first grow as 'bachelors' then self-separate into a couple which is when they flower and fruit.
Written with love for my dear bride Brittany on the occasion of our marriage, 5-15-15

I also like how center alignment almost turns this into a concrete poem, you can see it as a vase and flower.

The shirt that once hung loose from my shoulders, hugs me as tight as a small child does to its parent on the first day of swim lessons.

Shorts and pants that I used to swim in, now fit maybe a little too snugly.

And the weight I want to lose like a pair of glasses, or a set of keys, keeps adding up like apples in a math problem.

Does the saying "it will get worse before it gets better," have to apply to everything?

Maybe my shirts will hang lose again, just as the children get used to the water in time.

Maybe the snugness of my pants will wear old, and my bottoms will go back to needing belts to hold them up.

Maybe a friend named Sam will need some apples, and we will learn to subtract.

Maybe I will feel safe eating one of those apples, without wanting to throw it back up again.

Sometimes I think that I never want to give up this disordered habit of mine.

And other times I know it will never do me any good.
*I'm still learning to look in the mirror and see more than a reflection.*

Should my child
Steal an apple
From the orchard,
I wouldn't throw
Her out.
That would be a sin.
The consequences
Could be life altering,
World altering
In certain circumstances.
Here I have a teachable moment.
Rejection is the milk of pride.

As big as a tennis ball

But red as a rose

Wait for it to fall

From the tree where it grows.
I wrote you once
                 twice
                thrice

      But no more
              for you
        will I again

I loved you once
                 twice
          and thrice

But not anymore
              for you
            this time

1.
Something disgusting; avoid at all costs.
You do not want to smell it when it’s rotten.

2.
A curvy red, green, or yellow fruit, sitting and waiting for someone
To take a bite out of its perfection.

3.
An over-priced computer or phone
That was just made to break.

4.
Still attached to the top branch of a tree
Waiting to be picked, but that time never comes.

5.
An apple a day keeps the doctors away?
An apple keeps anyone away if you throw hard enough.
Just a fun free-poem

Apples on the ground
Apples in the tree
Apples in the water
Apples in the dew
What you are looking for is a
Red
Juicy
Delicious
Apple

We're all like fallen apples
that are bruised to the touch
some tumbled from great heights
and smashed on the ground
others took longer to ripe
and others are more round
some are sweet
and some are sour
some are blooming this very hour
I know apples that have holes
bites were taken
and they're broken to the core
some apples are rotten
and some apples are not
but just like us
some apples are in between
and I'd eat them anyway

He was only three foot tall, but
He wanted to be like his
Famous daddy
"The pirate" long  bob
Plated
Silver
Toe
A renowned pirate or so
He told me.
So he looked around the house
to what he could find,
A hook was out of reach
As it was dangerous you know,
it could take an eye out
or if trod on cut your toes,
He would have defiantly have shed a
Tear
Or
Three,
So he found a spoon, not
Gold
or
Silver
Not plated precious,
It was copper it would have to do.
So he put his hand up his sleeve,
Holding the spoon quite
Menacingly,
I'll scoop your ice cream
From right under your nose,
One scoop,
Two scoop,
Three,
"Ill bounce the bowl upon your head"
"Then run so you never knows it was me"
"Who had eaten your desert from"
"Right under your nose you see"
He giggled and smiled a child's grin,
What next does a pirate need to be
"King of the sea"
A hat he thought,
As he looked around his fathers hats
Covered his head,
He walked in to
Table
&
Chair,
For it was to big over his eyes,
He was unable to see.
He bounced Off the door, the bed, the
Window sill too, with holes cut he still
Was unable to see properly,
So he got a sock with a patch on the heal
Putting it on his little head
looked in the mirror amused
By what could be seen.
I need one more thing
To be like me pa..
A ship to sail the high sea,
But he was only tiny 3 foot tall was he,
So he looked around
Finding a table in the yard,
Discarded but could be used by he.
"A sail was needed"
A table cloth tied to the back legs
To catch the gusts of wind yar see,
A crew was needed??
But there was only room for
Him
And his parrot
Reginald,
"*******"
"*******"
He would squawk at me,
A I dry one given and a pat on the
Head from me.
I was known as a captain on
My
Green
Sea,
Plundering the apple tree
The raspberry bush
All the berries were now mine
That I could see,
I wanted to be like my father when I grew up
But lets be realistic I'm three foot
"I'm four and three months"
Who would be scared of little spoon pirate me.
