When I was a child,
Something happened, that was
Pretty wild.
Sat on the carpeted floor,
Playing with a matchbox,
Captain Webb,
First Channel swimmer 1875,
Was depicted.
I pushed it open, just a Sliver,
Looking into the darkness within,
Suddenly a feeling of intense joy filled my whole being,
A fleeting glimpse,
Of the eternal.
The next thing I know,
It's just a matchbox, no problem,
I'll just do the same thing again, and return to that place again, but it didn't work!
I never experienced that place again, but never stopped trying.

Indie scene
Nick Moore Sep 22
It was always,
The Cure and The Smiths,
That gave bliss,
Rejecting
Wham and Duran Duran.

When you found that certain club,
It was so great,
Minds could relate,
Finding your best mate,
No fighting
Or
Hate.

On the dance floor, with ****** killer and the slippery people,
Better to Byrne out, than to fade away.

The nights were so long,
Walking home to a bird song,
Sleeping until 12.00
How did I,
get out of those clothes?

Gregarious Gregg
Nick Moore Sep 7
Gregarious Gregg,
He could take lofty people,
Down a pegg.

On his travels, place's no-one went,
The thrill of a postcard,
From where was it sent?

There would be chatter,
Rumours of his return,
What stories would he tell us?
How green was the fern?

On our way to Glastonbury,
We walked into a pub,
The landlady looked at Gregg,
With love in her eyes, "free drinks for you and your friends"
Fun and laughter was had by all,
Outside we asked him,
"So what's the story?"
Gregg just smiling,
"I've never seen her before"

Gregarious Gregg,
Everyone listened to the words he said.
Passions would arise,
With that sparkle in his eyes.

On a road trip,
Around the Ring of Kerry,
A man thumbing a lift came into view,
It looked like Gregg, but just couldn't be
True!
No-one knew I was here, the odds didn't fit,
But, there he stood, that look upon his face,
"I thought you might be around"
he said.

The passing of time,
We all slide our different ways,
Things you think will never end,
Gently drift into the haze.

Occasionally I'll bump into an old friend,
We chat about old times,
Soon Gregg's upon our lips,
Never leaves our minds.

Maybe we should visit him,
He's only somewhere in France,
Or leave things as they are,
Firmly in the passed.

Anti Present
Nick Moore Aug 30
There's a poison in society,
administered by the media,
It keeps you in the future,
It keeps you in the past.

I got to read the label,
This is what it said,
Anti present,
Take 3 times a day,
Safe and effective,
Your time is all you pay.

Anti present,
Without it, you desires will fade away,
Anti present,
Don't be irresponsible, think how others will feel?
Anti present,
It's the real deal.

Sideffects may include:
Lack of self worth, unfulfillment and hollowness.

The lowest point
Nick Moore Aug 23
It's all been said before,
A series of events,
You know the score.

Everything was lost,
An inevitable pull,
Towards the void,
At what point do you loose control?

A decision had to be made,
Before this force, had me slade.

Reaching the lowest point,
Time to rip this joint,
A place never to return,
See the signs,
Before the burn.

The soul of your shoes
Nick Moore Aug 16
They tell a story,
Just take a look,
Are you heavy on the heel,
Or
Front first, Breaking the seal?

Do
You slide,
Wearing on the side?

It all becomes an unconscious act,
The pressure points,
Like a fingerprint,
On your daily stint.

Here's a little experiment,
You may wish to try,
Or not, I know there's many fish to fry,
While walking,
Observe your pressure points,
Then move them around,
From heel, to side to toes.

Breaking a routine,
Is good for the mind,
The sole's changing patterns,
You will find.

Food for thought
Nick Moore Aug 1
Forget the
Baguette,
Slumber, in the arms of a
Cucumber.
Never doubt the
Sprout.
Don't be mean to the bean.
Make drama, when peeling a
Banana.
Use a heron, to squeeze
Your lemon.
Feed a grape, to that ape.
Carve a kiwi into a kiwi.
Stare at at pear.
Pretend a spring onion,
Is a bunion, but! Don't leave it
In your sock.
Do the tango, with a mango.
Make mashed potato,  look like a chateau.
Excite a parrot,
With a carrot.
Is that pea, a she or a he? Whatever! Have tea with that pea, in a teepee.
Make rice mice.
Don't make a scene, with an aubergine.
Take that courgette, to the vet.
Visit the planet, that looks like a pomegranate.
Dye your boot, with beetroot.
Take the lead, when planting your seed.
Drink sherry with a berry.
See, with glasses made of brocoli.
A horse with dapple, loves an apple.
Don't play dumb, with a plum.

Vague meanings to their words,
Do I hear
Mockingbirds?
Maybe understand their gist?
Help me see, Through the mist.
Make a comment,
Do no harm,
Feels good to spread some charm.
Suddenly
I've tripped a detonator, an
Explosion of indignant words,
Come flying out.
Now mistakes, can be made,
But let's tell it straight,
People set,
Vague incendiary device's.

Hanging around
This little town.

Jimmy was looking at the bin,
Wondering what was
Hiding
Within?

Here's a fiver, get yourself something
to eat,
Time to get new shoes,
On them feet.

Today I heard the news,
Jimmy doesn't
Need those shoes.

Goodbye Jimmy,
I wasn't aware,
Just how many people cared.
This town isn't going to be the same anymore.

The day I met myself
Nick Moore Jul 5
It was a Thursday night,
I walked into a pub,
Who's that sat by the window?
Walking towards him, he looked up,
Was I looking into a mirror?
The feeling of a dream came over me,
and so began
the day I met myself.
We got along famously.
We agreed about music,
We agreed about art,
We agreed about politics,
We agreed about philosophy,
We agreed about religion,
We agreed about morals,
We agreed who were the bad people,
We agreed who were the good people,
We laughed so much, at all the things we had in common.
We cried about our hurts,
Then a silence ascended, we didn't know what to say!
Then we both agreed on one more thing,
To never see each other again.

Maybe the fall,

At one with the universe,
Floating around amniotic fluid,
Not being coerced.

As does the crying,
The cord has been

This is no oedipus complex, but a state of grace.

Achilles' heel
Nick Moore May 11
When my young eyes gazed,
The mind was
Amazed,
For this beholder,
Beauty couldn't be bolder.
But a game was at play,
Which took a while,
For the penny to drop,
Spotting her
Achilles' heel,
Not knowing what to feel,
The pain was so real.
But when love turns sour,
I was no wilting flower.
Getting on with life,
Lessoned the Strife.
Then a peculiar situation did occur,
Brisling the fur.
I was desired, like never before,
But to late,
I'd closed that door.

Down
Down,
Through the sulfurous haze,
Dante stumbled,
Lost in a
Fiery
Maze

Is this hell or a hammer film set
He asked himself,
Grinning with regret

A demon
Dressed in tattered lace,
With
Fangs and makeup,
A boneyard
Face

"Welcome to the pit, where
Sin abide
And
Dracula's got a VIP ride

The first circle
Fog and gloom
Looking for a friendly face,
I hope to find one soon

Next the gluttons,
Oh what a feast,
A banquet of souls
That never ceased

The brimstone smoked,
And ghosts of
Sinners,
Just happily joked
"Is this hell or a cryptic comedy?"
Dante laughed, lost in absurdity

The third,
greedy souls did cry,
Stuck in the mud,
Can't buy a thing
To
Satisfy

The Sinners dined in darkness,
Yet they slept
Until Dante shouted
"This is the wrong set"

So down to the deepest depths,
Where bat's flapped
And twisted,
Dante's glasses
Got slightly
Misted

But in the end
Dante found a seat,
In hells own cinema
Complete with a
Treat

A demon with a smile,
Made popcorn pop
And said
"You're in for a shock"

Dante sat back with his eternal snack,
And watched
As the credits rolled
"I'm never coming back"

The Inadequacy of Words
Nick Moore Apr 18
The wonder of
A bird’s nest,
Their songs, so beautiful,
Put the mind to the test.
How do they know?

"Oh, instinct."

The mystery
Of electricity,
What is it, truly?

"Well, it’s just... electricity."

Have you caught
A stranger's gaze,
Felt a friend’s name rise,
Only for them to call?
Yes! And?

"Coincidence."

Have you noticed –
No matter who’s in power,
The rich grow richer,
While the poor
Sink deeper?

"Are you a conspiracy theorist?"

All matter
Is merely energy condensed
To a slow vibration,
That we are all
One god consciousness
Experiencing itself subjectively,
There is no such thing as death

"Hippy ****"

And so we circle –
Words falling short,
Walls unbroken.
"All matter is merely energy condensed" is borrowed from a Bill Hicks show.

The chaos rained  down,
Cracks appeard upon the ground,
Every man,
Every woman,
For themselves.
Gods of Gods and their gods,

Through it all
Two people's eyes met,
Two
Wounded souls,
Will always recognise each other.
Nick Moore Apr 5
Six degrees of separation,
I see you
At the station,
Strangers bound by threads unseen,
Stories stitched where gaps have been.

Your glance meets mine, a fleeting spark,
Echoes carried through the dark.
Through hands we've held and roads we've crossed,
Connections found, though never lost.

A friend of yours once knew a face,
That lingers now in distant place.
And here we stand, so close yet far,
Entwined like constellations are.

Six degrees, a fragile chain,
Linking joy and loss and pain.
In every turn, the ties remain,
And strangers softly feel the same.

Triple fantasy
Nick Moore Mar 29
A visit to my teacher's house,
While he's talking,
I wounder where the ducks go in winter.

Been expelled,
Better go to the dormitory,
A rage of jealously,
I attack my room mate,
****** nose, hunting hat
Back to front,
I head for New York.

Booking into a hotel,
I dance with three girls,
Pay for their drinks
And off they go,
The elevator guy,
Offers me a girl, I agree,
she knocked at my door!
But I'm a ******, you see,
So we just talk.

I decided to go home, to see my sister, don't want to see my parents, so
I silently enter, go to her room,
She's sleeping so I wake her,
"Why are you home?"
I tell my tale,
"Dad will go crazy!"
Kids tell it straight,
I tell her to meet me later, at the
Museum, off I go, without a sound.

Waiting for my sister,
Watching how people act,
What happens when we grow up?
Most are phonies to me.
I see my sister, so carefree and real,
Do you want to ride the
carousel?
She's so happy, as we arrive,
Picking her favourite horse,
Time to take a ride.

So I'm just busy here watching the wheels
Go round and round,
No longer riding on the merry-go-round,
I'd had some dark thoughts
About what to do next,
But this song came into my mind,
And I just had to let it go,
I'll take my sister home,
Tell mum and dad,
Start a new school
Life ain't to bad.

Discovery
Of The
Garden,
Where we merrily played,
For a time.

Ignoring the voice
(We could be so bold)
Calling us back,
Into the fold.

The game's continued,
For a while,
But the fun it held,
Started to decline.

The garden
Became the only place,
Nowhere else existed,
An illusion was born,
The individual.

The individual
Sat alone, and very soon,
Sadness came to join.

Sadness grew and grew,
Until the thought was born,
Time to return to the place,
We once called
Home.

A Bittersweet Symphony
Nick Moore Feb 4
Mij was a storm of laughter and defiance,
A stubborn spirit, ever demanding his way,
Yet when the drinks flowed, oh how he shined,
A madcap maestro in the delirium of night.

Johnny Thunders on the speakers,
Hanoi rocks and Lords of the New Church
Echoing through our wild, endless journeys,
Tunes that stitched our misadventures into memory.

He’d promise me refuge in sunlit Greece,
An open door to his scattered sanctuary,
A place I longed to visit,
But lost my courage amidst the clamor of his drinking.

Now, two years on, silence aches where he once roared,
And in the quiet, I feel the bittersweet pull
Of laughter mixed with grief,
Missing the man who was as difficult as he was dearly loved.

In every clink of glass and every chord played,
I hear Mij’s defiant laugh a reminder
That even in chaos and excess,
There was a spark of beauty, a story worth every flawed moment.
Two years since your passing, and I'm only just starting to understand what you were to me.

That Song

Mamma's got a song,
She sings late at night,
It makes her so happy,
It's just outta sight,
Yeah,
Just outta sight,
She sings it
High,
She sings it
Low,
I
Can't make out the words
But
Dad
Seems to know.

And their singing all night,
Yeah,
It's just outta sight,
Momma got a song,
She sings late at night.

Mamma's singing high
And Dad's
Singing low,
I wish I
Knew the words
But I just don't know,
Oh yeah
I just don't know
Mamma's got a song,
She sings late at night.
Not a poem, so technically not for here.

Playground planet.
Nick Moore Jan 11
The swings hum softly in the wind,
clouds drift like slow balloons,
and the rivers race each other,
laughing all the way to the sea.

Mountains wear their crowns of snow,
trees play tag with the breeze,
while the stars peek through at night,
waiting for the sun to hide and seek.

But we, so busy building walls,
forget the feel of grass beneath our feet.
We hold the sky in photographs,
too scared to reach out and let it hold us back.

The rain is just a skipping stone,
tossed from some far-off, gentle hand.
The world spins like a merry-go-round,
yet we clutch the rails, afraid to let go.

Look closer, can you see it now?
The colors, bright as chalk on pavement.
The echoes of laughter in the hills,
the quiet voice that calls your name.

This world is a playground, waiting still.
Not a prison of glass and steel.
Jump higher, run farther—fall if you must.
The hands that shaped the stars
will catch you in the dust.

The Fool's Awakening
Nick Moore Dec 2024
Once I believed in all I was told,
Magic was real, its truth so bold.
Then came a voice, cold and near,
Santa Claus? The Tooth Fairy?
"That stuff... no way," it sneered in my ear.

What? Not true?
My mind, a tempest, not knowing what to do.
So what else is false, what else must I doubt?
Tell me, tell me, what’s the truth, all laid out?

“Well, all that’s hollow, empty and gray,
The rest? It’s all just smoke and play.”
Years passed, and I walked this land,
Where magic lay buried beneath the sand.

But then, a moment,
sharp and clear,
I saw the fool I had been, year after year.
It was time to shuffle the cards once more,
Yet still the fool, I remained at my core.

Chasing a butterfly, so swift, so bright,
But now I must grapple with a deeper fight,
The bitter truth, the lesson to grasp:
Vomiting out the apple, at last.

Carpets rolled up,
Bare floorboards
Revealed for the first time.

No one around,
My footsteps made
A strange
Sound

Then Gran came in.
"Your mummy and daddy

This truth,
I learned too late,
Kept from me
Until this morning.

A day my mind
Will never forget,
A secret now
Unfolded.

We traveled to the new town,
My face
Wore
A

The door slammed shut

Need no guise or art.

When Robert Sings
Nick Moore Dec 2024
Nostalgia’s not for me,
The present
is where I long to be.
But when Robert sings,
the past takes wing,
And memories bloom
Like lipstick
they cling.

A tear may gather,
though boys don't cry,
His voice, just like a dream,
drifts through the sky.

Each note,
a thread, weaving time and space,
Binding my heart
to a fleeting embrace.
Song, Love Cat's by The Cure.

Once upon a lime
Nick Moore Nov 2024
The
lime tree
Stood on top
Of The Hill,
The ground around
With limes
Did it
Fill

One Decending lime
Rolling to the
Incline,
Got itself
Into a
Spin

Tumbling down
With no Jill
After

Hitting the road side
A car did abide,
By changing its
Shape to
Flat,
But!
Deep into
The tyre grip
Went a
Pip

Spinning around
To the engine's
Sound,
It's DNA
Got slightly
Altered

After coming to a
Full stop,
The fastidious Chauffeur
Noticed,
The
Wheel didn't
Need a
Seed,
Flicking it over a
Wall,
Where it landed
Upon fertile
Land

As the seed started to grow
It's branches began
To twist

Ten years went by
As quick as a
Roll
Of you're
Eye

The land
That the tree,
Let It's roots spread free
Also contained a
Shack,
And as the morning
Broke,
The old man
Awoke

Starting his daily routine,
The days
Always seemed
The same,
But
He was clever enough to know,
There was no-one
To
Blame
But
Himself,
Life just seemed to
Snooker him,
Into this
Pocket

His only venture out,
Was the local store,
Supplying all that
Was
Needed

But
Before setting off,
Something was calling to
His
Attention,
The sound of a bird
Never
Heard

Heading down
The overgrown
Path,
The bird suddenly stopped,
And
While flying off,
He saw something,
Never seen
Before

A tree bering limes,
From it's
Corkscrew branches,
But
Not any old limes,
Their skins
Also
Had a
Twist

Picking one up,
Marvelling at the shape,
He headed off to
The store

Arriving at the door,
Felt like
Not
Before,
This day was like
No
Other

Gathering his supplies,
Catching the
Shopkeepers eye,
"A very good day to you"

"I don't mean to sound rude
But you're in a good mood"
She said, while giving
Him a
Smile

"What would you think
If I asked you out
For a drink?"

"I'd grab
Hat and coat,
Lock up this old store
And we'd be on our way"

With his best smile in years
He said
"Well let's go"

Arriving at the bar,
He asked for two
Mojitos

The barman
Shook his head,
"We're all out of limes!"

The old man's eyes
Lit up
